Duck Dynasty, will Phil's interview doom the show?

Yeah...no doubt about that. It just would be funny.

I don't actually think it's a possibility, but I also wouldn't complain if some of these groups lost some big money on things like this.

A&E is so utterly disgusted and upset about what Phil said, they will only run the episodes during these small time frames...

    December 23 -- 7PM-4AM EST
    December 24 -- 6PM-9PM EST

I'm ok with A&E taking a stance, but it should be an all or nothing stance. You either pull the show completely or stand by Phil and his beliefs. It's insanely hypocritical to condemn him, but continue airing the show and making money off it.

    Welcome to capitalism.

Taking sides and backing causes is what groups do and what we talk about forever and ever on places like this. In the end, the only thing that really matters is money and whose pockets are being lined with it.

Well, if you refuse to watch the network, and enough people with the same view do the same, they will. This "organic" result is far more likely to happen than to get results through any sort of boycott that some suggest.

Psst. I'm tired of these gas prices. Let's not have anyone buy any gas today. And then fight to be first in line tomorrow, so we don't have to wait in line to pump it. That'll show Big Oil who's boss!

LOL....which yields one of two conclusions:

    1) A&E considers Duck Dynasty to be holiday programming
    or
    2) A&E has no rights to any traditional holiday programming

    Yeah, no doubt.

It is their best rated show, one that they use to promote alot of their other shows so it would hurt overall.

Storage wars has taken a huge dump as well on AE>

I applaud the Robertsons for their strong beliefs and sticking to them. I'm not afraid to say I agree with them. That being said though A&E didn't do anything wrong. They didn't violate his right to free speech by doing what they feel is right for their company. I think it's ridiculous for both sides to be so up in arms. And even though I agree with him conservatives are overreacting just as much as liberals.

They run the show constantly, basically every night, and have been since they suspended Phil. It's a cash cow, even the re-runs.

I've always felt the people who get really fired up about BS like this and go so far as to organize boycotts...typically aren't rocket scientists.

Boycotts are only effective against small mom & pop entities.

Let's say you own a business. A particular employee invented something that has made you very wealthy. One night, he goes Tiernan, gets blind drunk, and kills someone. Do you fire him? Do you quit selling your top product that he invented?

and you are smart enough to know the two are totally different. We will be using the same amount of gas pretty much no matter what and boycotting a day wont do a thing because you still have to buy it before or after that day, but if enough people boycott AE it could hurt.

but I doubt enough people actually will. I did delete the channel from my listing so when I flip through it wont be there, but people will still watch the garbagle they put on

I feel that's a different situation, though I'm sure you'll disagree. In this case A&E suspended him from the show, but are still airing episodes with him in it to make money. If an employee of mine invents a product, it is my product. Why would I not sell a product that I own who's sales are not directly related to the employee that invented it. The product would simply be linked to my company.

Now OCers are going to tell us they know more about blacks working the fields than a white guy who was working with them?

Agreed. AE is being hypocritical as a mofo in airing DD right now with him in it. If they truly wanted to take a stand they should not air it...but they wont do it because people will watch.

    ????

They aren't being hypocritical. They don't want to "take a stand". They only want to appease those who would be offended by the statements made.

This is evidenced by they airing the show and suspending the "offender".

The show is A&E's product to distribute. The difference from my hypothetical is that not only is Mr. Robertson an employee (technically he's not but that's unimportant), his image and persona are part of the product. Personally, I don't see this as enough of a difference to make my point invalid, but I'll admit your view is legit.

What's funny is we don't even know if this suspension is "material" at this point.

I see that filming for Season 5 has already wrapped, and set to begin airing Jan 15. So, yeah, probably wasn't planned to film additional episodes for at least several months, anyway.

Haha correct. Phil must be a bold faced liar... His comments weren't racist in the least. Insensitive to their plight maybe, but not racist explaining what HE saw.

I am offended by the people that are offended.

Phil had every right to say what he did.

A&E had every right to can him.

tsk tsk tsk... Where are the unions to protect you when you need them.
