Duck Dynasty, will Phil's interview doom the show?

Now the NAACP is on his ass -
gutOK, now THOSE comments about Jim Crow are offensive.

TiernanPhil himself is probably the most shocked his opinions on anything have warranted this much media attention across the country. He is actually duck hunting as we speak, from Nov to Jan in LA that's what rednecks do. I'm sure he's laughing his ass off somewhere in a duck blind. The ones who probably aren't laughing are those hot bitches that married the 3 brothers and are worried the gravy train might be running out of gravy right about now.

Manhattan Buckeye"2. He said in his opinion wanting another man's anus is illogical (to him). Please explain where that is "offensive" and "anti-gay" and makes him a bigot. If someone can seriously explain that without going on a Bible bashing rant, I would love to hear it."
/thread.
I have made many references in the past that I think hot Asian women are really, really hot - some people responded negatively, perhaps in jest, perhaps not. That doesn't make them racists if they don't think Asian women are attractive. There is nothing wrong with what he said. -

I doubt they are concerned. Duck Dynasty has raked in, at least, $3M a year from the show, $5M+ in related merchandise sales...and, oh, about $20M annual profits. They have been set for life, and their kids, for a few years now.Tiernan;1555698 wrote:those hot bitches that married the 3 brothers and are worried the gravy train might be running out of gravy right about now.
I'm actually surprised a family with that kind of wealth would want cameras in their lives at this point. But I think they honestly felt they were "evangelizing" and setting a good example of family values. So you take that away....
But, like I said...as long as it's fun, there are a lot of things they might tolerate to make money to support causes near and dear. -
queencitybuckeyeUpon reflection, I've gone from the idea that maybe this was done as a publicity stunt to reinforce ratings to being quite sure of it.

I don't know. I'm sure everyone knew what was going to happen when Phil interviewed with GQ. But somehow I don't think the Robertsons viewed it as a publicity stunt but a very public pulpit. Phil didn't get to evangelize like he may have wanted on the show, but it still provided him with the forum and opportunity.queencitybuckeye;1555709 wrote:Upon reflection, I've gone from the idea that maybe this was done as a publicity stunt to reinforce ratings to being quite sure of it.
The show was already hugely successful. Phil doesn't seem the type to engage in a publicity stunt. -

The only people offended by his words are those who wouldn't watch in a million years but will now do so out of curiosity. Additionally, these same people are providing millions of dollars worth of advertising to reclaim the show's lapsed customers. Timing-wise it coincides with the airing of the Baba Walters show where he blew her off. This is either part of a brilliant business plan or they're lottery-level lucky.gut;1555711 wrote:I don't know. I'm sure everyone knew what was going to happen when Phil interviewed with GQ. Outside of MNF I think it was the highest rated show on Cable. One episode alone got 11.8 million viewers.
Aside from that, there is no way A&E wanted to knowingly and willingly invite the outrage brigade into their lives by giving Phil the green light to say the things he did.
If an aparatus as big as the Republican Party hasn't found a way to fend off the militant homosexual coalition, I doubt A&E was going to be able to. Know one in their right mind invites that into their lives. -
pmoney25I think Walking Dead has higher ratings. But anyway, this is really a waste of time and energy.
If he was an Atheist who said that being Gay is unnatural and no different than bestiality, he would be fired also. Christianity is not under attack. Being an idiot however is under attack. -

If it was, it worked. My Facebook page is going nuts with support of whatever this is - what do they sell again? The left wing blogs are mobilizing right now as we speak to try and get a similar attack against Duck Dynasty sponsors that they have been so effective with against Limbaugh's. All the usual suspects that Limbaugh offends are outraged by Phil Robertston now, so it is just a matter of getting the band back together.Manhattan Buckeye;1555718 wrote:If it was, it worked. Hell hath no fury like an outraged liberal after all. -
LJThe family said they can't imagine continuing without Phil and are in talks with A&E about the show's future.
By the end of 2014 if you want to see the Robertson family on TV its gonna be back to their old Duck Commander show on Outdoor -
GoChiefsI'm sure they will end up on a bigger network than just the Outdoor Channel if they wish to continue the Duck Dynasty show.

We want to thank all of you for your prayers and support. The family has spent much time in prayer since learning of A&E's decision. We want you to know that first and foremost we are a family rooted in our faith in God and our belief that the Bible is His word. While some of Phil’s unfiltered comments to the reporter were coarse, his beliefs are grounded in the teachings of the Bible. Phil is a Godly man who follows what the Bible says are the greatest commandments: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart” and “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Phil would never incite or encourage hate.We are disappointed that Phil has been placed on hiatus for expressing his faith, which is his constitutionally protected right. We have had a successful working relationship with A&E but, as a family, we cannot imagine the show going forward without our patriarch at the helm. We are in discussions with A&E to see what that means for the future of Duck Dynasty. Again, thank you for your continued support of our family. -

As usual, Camile Paglia is the only liberal who remotely gets it.

when you drag bestiality into his condemnation he demonstrates his hatred.jmog;1555686 wrote:You are referencing the historical Jewish laws and their levels of punishment, not God's moral laws. Yes, Leviticus (the main book that lists the old Jewish laws) gives varying punishments (some freaking harsh), but that is a man's set of laws just like
For Isadore:
Phil actually said he loved everyone, including homosexuals, if you read the whole article. So, please show again where he "hates" homosexuals? -

He mined the Bible for things to condemn. He chose not to condemn eating shellfish, pork or committing murder. He specifically chose those items putting them on the same level. You say he relied on First Corinthians but then to show his hatefulness toward Gays he put in bestiality.jmog;1555685 wrote:1. He most certainly did not put homosexuals on the same level as criminals. He was asked to make a list of what he thought was sin, and he gave a list, period. The exact question asked was "What do you believe is sinful?" To which he replied with the list you just said, he gave a LIST, did not say one was better or worse than the other.
2. I didn't say one thing or another about the "racist" comments.
Why the quotes around racist? He gave his endorsement to the despicable system of Jim Crow. He chose not to see the whites only signs and ignore the physical intimidation of blacks. -

It's still a mega-hit. However this season marks the first time that the last episodes of the season drew less viewers than the first episodes of the season, and by a significant amount. Not cause for alarm, but cause for concern.IggyPride00;1555714 wrote:

A&E is a business. They make more money when more people watch their programming. They don't give half a shit whether those additional audience members worship, hate, or are merely curious about the people on their shows.Aside from that, there is no way A&E wanted to knowingly and willingly invite the outrage brigade into their lives by giving Phil the green light to say the things he did.
See above. If a militant coalition is tuning in, A&E's response is "welcome".If an aparatus as big as the Republican Party hasn't found a way to fend off the militant homosexual coalition, I doubt A&E was going to be able to. Know one in their right mind invites that into their lives. -
