The Voice: Season 5
-
se-alumBack on tonight. Not thrilled that Cee-Lo and Christina are back. Last two seasons have been really predictable, hopefully this season will have more all-around talent.

gutYou wonder at this point why, given the opportunity, any contestant wouldn't choose Blake as their coach. Definitely going to miss Usher, and not looking forward to Cee-lo hitting on all the girls and playing the role of Randy Jackson,
Although there is some game theory involved, and battle/knock-out rounds are a dangerous place to find yourself matched against a coach favorite.
Speaking of which, I hate the "thinking of who is best for my team going forward..." cop out, as if the make-up matters like a basketball team or something. -

Yea, it's pretty well documented that Blake is the best choice as a coach. Not only for hopes of winning the show, but for what he does for his team members beyond the show.gut;1506108 wrote:You wonder at this point why, given the opportunity, any contestant wouldn't choose Blake as their coach. You think for any contestant, or only country contestants? The country community is comparatively tight-knit and centralized. But if I were an aspiring pop star I'm not sure why I'd expect Blake to do more for me than Christina.se-alum;1506115 wrote:Yea, it's pretty well documented that Blake is the best choice as a coach. If you're a country star, probably a huge (and stupid) risk NOT to pick Blake. Perhaps equally so if you aren't a country star, especially if he were to decide again to make a push with all country.
Aside from potentially opening on tour for one of these guys, I just don't think the same machinery is there that AI had to capitalize on the buzz/momentum of winning (and even then, they've missed more than they hit). -
Pick6gut acts like he has superior taste in women => we find out its sort of disappointing.
gut criticizes one of the greatest tv shows ever => we find out he likes tv shows my mother would watch. -

Pick6 demonstrates a simpleton's view and apparently fails to grasp that a DISCUSSION forum is not just a place where people gather for various forms of masturbation.Pick6;1506129 wrote:gut acts like he has superior taste in women => we find out its sort of disappointing.

Dia wasn't country, and she opened for him on tour. He made Cassadee Pope country, and her debut album comes out in a few weeks. Danielle has been the only true country artist he has had.gut;1506125 wrote:You think for any contestant, or only country contestants? se-alumI just don't understand what the show creators see in Cee-Lo. Nothing he says ever makes any sense.

ernest_t_bassI love how (most) artists don't even consider Cee-Lo, if someone else turns their chair around with Cee-Lo. There was even an artist last night, the southern rocker, who seemed a little perturbed that Cee-Lo was the only one that turned his chair around. Ditch Shakira, keep Ursher, bring back X-Tina, and you have a dynamite cast.

I'd still take Shakira over Christina, but Usher over Cee-Lo is a huge need.ernest_t_bass;1507170 wrote:I love how (most) artists don't even consider Cee-Lo, if someone else turns their chair around with Cee-Lo. I disagree. Shakira picked awful songs, is not as good of a singer, and never knew what to say. Xtina is the most honest out of all of them.se-alum;1507433 wrote:I'd still take Shakira over Christina, but Usher over Cee-Lo is a huge need. -
vball10setMy fave so far...

gutShe was good - another 16 yr old for Blake, right? I was waiting for someone to say "you remind me of Dia Frampton - the one time Blake didn't win". And since Dia similar artists haven't really done that well on the show.
A few others were good, but for the most part it seemed to be a parade of singers who fit right in with also-rans from prior years. Can't always tell at this point.
Clips from next week sounded like some 15-yr old destroys Beyonce, which might be an early favorite. Although it's likely a different contestant singing Beyonce.
When I saw the kid with the "LEGIT" hat, I thought instant meme -

When Blake said, "I specialize in 16 year old girls..." I was like... uh. But then he followed it up with something like "winning the voice."gut;1507619 wrote:She was good - another 16 yr old for Blake, right? -

se-alumThe blinds are done. The last couple years it's been pretty easy to pick the winner after the blinds, but it seems to be more even this year. Nobody really blew me away. If I had to make a guess, I would say Holly Henry, but not confident in it.

wildcats20The 15 year old that Christina picked up has an insane voice.

Raw Dawgin' itthis was my favorite.

se-alumAnyone been keeping up? Doesn't seem to be a clear cut favorite this year. I actually like quite a few of them. Austin, Cole, Jacquie, and Caroline are my favorites though.

wildcats20I think it comes down to Matt(the black guy), Tessanne and Jacqui.

gutI feel like we've seen almost every single one of these contestants in prior years.
Maybe I don't know some of these songs as well, but it seems like most of these singers have been doing covers too long and don't really make the song their own. Actually the younger/raw singers seem to be more original. The thing that stands out is Blake tends to be much better at choosing songs for his artists - more than a few have gone home over the years because of bizarre choices from the other coaches.
I like Jacqui but I just don't know. Her higher range sounds sharp/shrill to me, but she's only 15. Still can't believe Timyra Joi got sent home when she did. -

Blake screwed the pooch letting Holly Henry sing the song that ultimately got her sent home. She wanted to be a rocker, but didn't have the voice for that genre.gut;1538366 wrote:I feel like we've seen almost every single one of these contestants in prior years.
