The Voice: Season 5

Looks like Adam will take it this year, wouldn't count out Blake's influence though, especially with no one else to take Team Blake votes.

So what is that, the 3rd straight time the Twitter save went home the following week? Doesn't bode well for James.

Kind of makes sense, though, since those are the lowest vote totals they are behind the 8-ball...and apparently haven't been picking up votes. Maybe James picks up enough of Matthew's votes to survive another week. Conceivable, but probably unlikely unless he really knocks it out of the park.

I feel like James and Will might actually be cannibalizing each others votes a bit. I think one of those two go home next week. Cole, in addition to Team Blake, probably has a decent country contingent. And I'd be interested to know if Tessanne isn't getting a ton of support from the homeland.

I found this (not sure how the poll was conducted):
    Jacquie Lee 20.23%
    Will Champlin 18.74%
    Tessanne Chin 18.66%
    Matthew Schuler 15.59%
    Cole Vosbury 13.6%
    James Wolpert 13.18%

Based on that, and with very few cracking the top-10 in Itunes, it's pretty wide open and next week would appear to come down to Cole or James. Top-3 would appear to be pretty neck-and-neck (except for possibly Jacquie, they are probably all within the margin of error from each other) with a lot of votes up for grabs as others are eliminated.

Surprised James is so low. He's one of my favorites, if not my favorite.

    This.

I think Jackquie is a one trick pony. The way her name is spelled drives me fucking nuts, everytime she comes on i just think "your parents must be retarded"

    Glad Matt went home.

Not a fan of James or Tessanne. Will is my favorite, with Jacquie second.

Xenia has one of my favorite voices ever on the show. Good to see she's gotten over the shyness and awkwardness.

Well, no surprises there. You could tell by the way Adam was talking after James' performance that this was the end.

Tessanne's "Bridge over trouble water" was truly outstanding. I think she's become the "favorite" the past few weeks. When Will Champlin is good, he's really good...but he's very hit-and-miss.

In order I thought the weakest performances this week were James, Will was a little better...and I actually think Cole was much better than that. But Jacquie and Tessanne were very good.

This season has been incredibly boring and hard to watch. Doesn't matter who wins, we'll never hear from them again. There has been very little personality from any of the contestants.

Pretty much the same as every year. The Voice staple is people who can sing but aren't artists.

    Agree.

Disagree. See Bradbery, Danielle; Pope, Cassadee.

This is my thoughts on the rest of the contestants:
Would be cool. Unfortunately, Jacquie is the only one I could see possibly surviving as a solo artist (to tweeners), but I could see Will being a front man on a band, easily. I could see Cole in a role like Zac Brown band.

Yea, I don't agree with this either. Almost every season there has been someone with a great voice and a personality to go with it. That isn't the case this year. Also, Cassadee Pope was an artist, and so was Dia Frampton(though she lost due to the Bieber thing).

Pope's first album actually has sold better than Bradberry's (helps when you release the album when no one else is). It remains to be seen how successful those two will be once the wave of winning The Voice no longer carries them. Country MIGHT be a less competitive genre, but it does have HUNDREDS of cute girls with good voices trying to make it.

Sorry, Danielle Bradbery was the protytpical "karoake performance". There's a so much more to being successful than just having a good voice.

I didn't say they don't have any artists (like Terry McDermmot and the above two)...just that most of their contestants aren't artists, or maybe more accurately their interpretations just fall flat.

Personality has nothing to do with it - the difference is night and day vs. AI. If they aren't doing their own uninspiring take on a song then it's just straight karaoke. That's the difference in talent between the two shows, because mostly everyone on The Voice is superior vocally to most of the AI contestants.

You don't think personality plays a part in it when people are voting or am I misunderstanding your statement?

Pope's album released a month and a half before Bradbery, obviously her sales will be higher at this point. Pope has sold about 110K in 8 weeks, Bradbery about 53K in two weeks. I highly doubt Brad Paisley would have a karaoke act opening his concerts.

Again, I disagree. I have to believe Blake Shelton knows a little more about what it takes to make it in country music than you, so I'll side with him here. She's MUCH more than "karaoke", gut, and her future success will bear this out.

In voting, sure. I'm talking more about performance and post-Voice success. Personality is always there, to a degree, but it's no substitute for actual talent.

Cassadee Pope and Bradbery could very well turn out to be stars, but the odds are not remotely in their favor. For whatever reason, AI appears to have a better machine or better formula for promoting its stars. I think it was Javier that dropped his producer - that would never happen, or even be a consideration for an AI winner. That said, supposedly Bradbery did have a slew of hit writers line-up for her album, which is really the key.

I was also thinking maybe Voice overcoaches to a degree, or coaching what has worked for them and may not be the best for the artist. And how could a contestant disagree with their advice? I just wonder if it doesn't kill creativity a bit, or maybe back to song choice as AI had "themes" which I think worked well for them.

What I saw was Pope outsold her in release week....like 48k to 35k or something like that.

Let me put it this way...until one of their artists has an album sell 500k copies (gold, the lowest level of "certification"), then the Voice has not had a success, or at least a "star", by the most forgiving of definitions.

Carrie Underwoods first album sold 315k...in its first week.
Kelly Clarkson's first album (after AI) sold 297k its debut week.

And I would guess several other AI performers had album debuts that crushed either Pope or Bradbery.

I think Blake is the best coach at allowing creativity from his team members, and also at supporting them post-Voice, which is why he has won so often. Pope and Bradbery have released albums, and the Swon Bros. are releasing their album soon. Also, I honestly think the country music genre is the best at supporting up and coming artist, which will definitely help. I would bet good money that Pope will be a star, and Bradbery will most likely be a very big star in country music.

I'm really pulling for Jacquie here, but Tessanne absolutely killed her Whitney Houston song, so I think she wins in a close one...and damn, Adam sure threw Will under the bus--bad form!!!

I agree. Tessanne was really good last night. The other 2 were just ok IMO.

I have never really watched this show but was flipping through and saw this cute girl singing and Aguillara's tits all over the screen so I watched that performance. I dont know....she just didnt sound that great if you ask me but Aguillara flipped out how amazing it was.
