  There's that, and there's also the fact that they never really knew how long the show would run. I think that's very difficult for a writer to adapt/flex the story arc and retain such great quality.

  Than, IMO, in the desert you have the literal and figurative "your dead to me" moment between father and son. So the question is whether they will reconcile in the final two episodes. I think Walt will end-up sacrificing himself to save Jesse. It's the only "family" he has left to salvage some sort of redemption.
