After 19 years of successful teaching girls PE the teacher was fired after her mother died and in the paper it listed her and her "partner"

an anonomyous parent sent the letter to the school board and the teacher was fired.

I dont think that this "evidence" is enough basis for firing personally even with the morality clause.

A good lawyer's going to have a field day with this ;)

They fired her just for being gay? This won't end well for the school.

Dumb. Aren't most girls PE instructors gay?
  • chicago510
Regardless of your stance on the gay marriage issue, its asinine that in 2013, we are firing people for their sexuality.

I assume they are exempt from Non-Discrimination acts because they are a religious organization?

Just saw it was a Catholic school. Make more sense now why they fired her. No less wrong, though.

Based on the church's history, the hypocrisy of such a decision is stunning.

If you're ratting on a mafioso, or turning in your employer for horrific safety violations, being anonymous makes sense. In cases like this, put your name on it you gutless wonder.

well it is a catholic school and she signed a morality clause...but this same clause could/should then be used against those who are divorced, living in sin, using birth control??

Bishop Watterson is a Christian school. They play by different rules.

Not saying it's right by any means...just saying I'm sure they have some clause in contracts where certain "sins" are ground for termination.

Is sexual preference a protected attribute in Ohio?

I'm no lawyer, I guess I always assumed it was part of it.

Absolutely ridiculous that her 19 years of service accounted for nothing. The parent that sent the anonymous letter is a total POS. I agree with qcb. Attach your name to it, *****.

Nor am I, my understanding is that there is no federal protection like sex, race, etc., it's a state by state type of thing.

Jesus died on the cross to forgive our sins, we all have sins and we all still sin. Grace and forgiveness is a difficult thing to understanding and act on.</SPAN>

Those of you who have no sin cast the first stone...

I have a hard time with Grace and Forgiveness but I'm trying to understand ... I have a situation where I need to understand this and it is a very conflicting task. Note; I&#8217;m a Christian not a Saint, I have faults </SPAN>

From what I hear the principle is also gay and has brought her partner to school functions and not been fired so maybe there's more to the story

just to bwe clear im saying that its wrong that she was fired...im not sure i follow what you're saying

considering the principal of the school had an affair with the football coach, it's kind of ironic the morality clause is what got this teacher fired.

Also, my hs (same conference) has a gay principal. I hope she's next (not bc she's gay).

    Don't feel bad. Most don't.

Two of my college roommates went to Watterson and they are not pleased with the whole situation. Very unfortunate for the teacher.

This is old news, so shame on you guys for bringing it up now.

But, it is a private school so they can fire her for virtually whatever they want. A lawyer can probably still have a field day with them in court but I doubt they broke any laws in their firing.

So long as vouchers exist, or private schools get taxpayer money, I don't give a fuck how the church feels about it. She should not have been fired

I'm just surprised he didn't find a way to tie this into him being able to carry a gun anywhere.

    First time for everything!

I know Coach Carla Hale personally and she has been a great teacher and role model to many students and athletes at Watterson. She is absolutely stunned and humbled by the outpouring of support from the community. We told her she might just become known as the "Rosa Parks" of Gay rights after this.
