It's probably a fairly normal reaction, but still just as dead. Maybe you could get a good jump on him when his back was turned or reloading.GoChiefs;1344889 wrote:I know of the story, and like you said, what did it accomplish? Nothing. Just added another to the body count.
Her story made my stomach turn. I don't think she felt like a coward, I think she felt totally and completely powerless to help. It was chilling, because I think that's how most people would have felt. -

True. But she certainly had the heart of a real hero, even if she died in so-called vain.GoChiefs;1344889 wrote:I know of the story, and like you said, what did it accomplish? Nothing. Just added another to the body count.
The woman who hid in a closet for four hours, without even peaking out to see if there is anything that could be done, well, that is very hard to fathom. I am not saying I would have ran through the halls like Rambo searching for first blood, but if you work at the school and know that there are 75 to 100 innocent, helpless children at risk, it's sort of your job to find out what's going on. You signed up to help these kids.
I don't know. I guess if the lady didn't want criticism, she shouldn't have agreed to go on 60 Minutes and tell the world that while 20 of her students were being slain she was in the closet. -
GoChiefs
I don't disagree with you at all with what you're saying. I'm just saying it's hard for me to call her a coward when nobody knows for sure what they would do.reclegend22;1344915 wrote:True. But she certainly had the heart of a real hero, even if she died in so-called vain.

You can't even keep your own thoughts straight. When I said that I would rather have admins doing what they could to protect the kids, you told me that when a school goes on lockdown, the admins are locked to and can't do anything. Now you expect an old lady nurse to spring into action and try to stop the shooter.ccrunner609;1344862 wrote:Yeah the nurse story makes me sick. What a coward talking about hiding while she hears kids sreaming and being killed.
Which is it? -
Azubuike24The real problem is that if every kid and parent took matters in their own hands tomorrow against the Adam Lanza in their town, we'd have thousands of discrimination charges and lawsuits. Maybe this will wake people up and not be afraid to be politically incorrect...

She did. She called the police. Or the right thing, the moral thing, to have done in this case was to sacrifice herself in vain and leave her own family without a mother?reclegend22;1344915 wrote:You signed up to help these kids.

I think you're being really harsh and unfair. If it was a man who might hope to overpower the guy then maybe I could agree with you. -

Again, you can't keep your shit straight. Just a page back you blasted the nurse for not doing anything. Now you say it's not her job. :rolleyes:ccrunner609;1344929 wrote:thats not the nurses job. -

Why would there be? It's a frickin' grade school.ccrunner609;1344918 wrote:Back to my point...there is nothing in that school to stop this guy. Gun, Mace, something.
What's next, then? The little girl at the movie theater concession stand has to pack heat just in case? I guess we we start training the kids how to take down an armed gunman in PE then. -

I'd make a distinction between being a coward and being stupid. She wasn't stupid. She took some risk calling the police - that's not really cowardly.ccrunner609;1344938 wrote:I blasted what she did, not who she is. She is the nurse, she is also a coward -

I can see the headlines now!
"Local Cross Country fan saves a school by tackling armored gunman with 3 loaded weapons!"
Like I said, maybe we should save judgement until you are in a similar situation. -

Nah, PE is out of most schools. Obama's master plan is to continue to feed them chemicals and poison for lunch and watch them becoming overwhelmingly fat.gut;1344945 wrote:I guess we we start training the kids how to take down an armed gunman in PE then. -

Obama's wife has pushed health into the schools and the State of Ohio is in it's first year ever of obtaining scores for every kid in 2nd, 5th, 8th and 10th grades. Every kid is rated a 1-3 in 12 different physical education areas and it will be sent off to the state in June....will be recognized on every school's state report card. Schools without and those that give credit for playing a sport instead will not be meeting standards set by the state....which came straight from Michelle IMO. -
AutomatikThis may have been posted already, but it's a good read. It's been floating all over social media today.

Had a discussion with my students and we all agreed if someone walked in, we would be screwed. Hide and hope for the best.GoChiefs;1344884 wrote:I don't think any of us really know what we would do if we are face to face with death. Call her a coward, whatever, but you might do the same if in the same scenario. I'd like to think that I wouldn't just sit there and hide while a bunch of kids are getting killed either.
Great story. Do I think it's necessarily true? Maybe not. But you need a feel good story at this point.reclegend22;1344887 wrote:There was a story that came out of this tragedy of a young kindergarten teacher who jumped in front of her students to save them from the shooter's gunfire, so it is certainly not a stretch of logic to assume that this lady should have at least tried to do more. Of course, after the shooter was done killing that kindergarten teacher, he then continued with the killing of all of her students. It's the thought that counts. -

Yeah. Like I posted on the Poli forum, most people think that ALL kids with Autism are these sweet loveable kids. If you do a simple google search even, you soon realize that violence is paired with autism A LOT more than what people either know, or want to believeAutomatik;1344991 wrote:This may have been posted already, but it's a good read. I'll respond by saying the entire basis of the USDA's health guidelines are wrong. Michelle Obama, while her heart is in the right place on this issue, is wrong. The answer has nothing to do with behaviors of people, amounts of activity, etc...it's the quality of nutrition. It's failing. Advocating programs like "move more" are the equivalent of using a spoon to bail out a boat taking on water.Ironman92;1344971 wrote:Obama's wife has pushed health into the schools and the State of Ohio is in it's first year ever of obtaining scores for every kid in 2nd, 5th, 8th and 10th grades. reclegend22Michelle Obama isn't exactly petite. Or attractive. As the media would have you believe. She's somewhere between Whoopi Goldberg and Michael Vick.

Again, not arguing....just going against the thought that PE is leaving most schools. Two years ago it seemed that way. -
TiernanAutism, Asbergers or whatever you want to call it manifests itself many times in people who cannot function in a society that has the freedom of movement and freedoms of choice America has and too many people want to be all PC about it and try to "mainstream" these individuals instead of locking them up.
Instead of increased gun controls (which is way too late to implement) lets look into increased weirdo controls. -
sherm03
Fuck you for this post. Locking up people just because they have autism? Calling people with autism "weirdos"? Seriously, you're a piece of shit. Fuck everything about you.Tiernan;1345155 wrote:Autism, Asbergers or whatever you want to call it manifests itself many times in people who cannot function in a society that has the freedom of movement and freedoms of choice America has and too many people want to be all PC about it and try to "mainstream" these individuals instead of locking them up.

TiernanYou missed my point Shermy - I did not say every person with autism is a weirdo or violent, but too many people who are around the ones who are, do not want to make the call to police and say "I live with a person I believe may harm others at some point." This guy's parents, brother and some neighbors knew he had violent tndencies and what does Mom do?...she takes him target shooting! I've known some very loving kids with autism and I'm sorry my post didn't differentiate better.

Pick6Looking at the parents' view...how hard would it be for them to do that? Telling somebody that you think your kid is a danger to society has to be very hard for a parent to do or even come to terms with it...even though deep down they know.
Im not a parent, but feel that would be something really hard for me to do. Probably make me feel like I failed at raising my kid. -

This is an excellent point - fortunately we haven't had any experience with in our immediate family and friends with these mental issues, but I can't imagine the emotional and physical fatigue that a parent has to endure with a child like this. Closest we came is with a "family friend" that is more of a professional reference who has a son that has some sort of condition who we met a few years ago when we had a gathering at a college football game.Pick6;1345227 wrote:Looking at the parents' view...how hard would it be for them to do that? I sat next to the kid (who was probably 17 at the time) for the full 3.5 hour game - he was smart as a tack, yet was so uncomfortable to be around. He had no concept of humor, sarcasm, or the ability look you in the face during a conversation. It was beyond just high school age awkwardness, there was a significant level of lack of mental or emotional social development. Felt horrible for the parents.
