gorocks99With no NHL, it's the best place to get my hockey fix (although I'd be watching anyhow). Season kicked off in earnest this past weekend.
Ohio State kicked off the weekend by splitting a pair of games against Minnesota-Duluth, 2-6 Friday and 3-2 Saturday. Duluth is expected to be pretty good this year so it was a good weekend for the Buckeyes.
#1 BC was upset by Northeastern Saturday night while #2 Minnesota swept Michigan State 5-1 (Friday) 7-1 (Saturday). Gophers look like the real deal this year, a ton of talent and I'm super happy Bjugstad decided to return as he's basically a man against boys out there.
Here's to a good season, the final one for the CCHA and the final season before B1G hockey kicks off. -

Watched bits and pieces of them against ND at the Icebreaker, didn't look too bad although they dropped a 1-0 decision to Notre Dame. Are they expected to be middle-of-the-pack Hockey East this year? Admittedly I don't know much about them.Raw Dawgin' it;1295711 wrote:#20 wooo

Well - we're goal scorer deficient and our defense isn't top notch. We have good goal tending but they need to score more (obviously). We lost 2 first line players but returned our top goal scorer. Last year was the first time they were in the tournament since i graduated in 07.gorocks99;1295715 wrote:Watched bits and pieces of them against ND at the Icebreaker, didn't look too bad although they dropped a 1-0 decision to Notre Dame. We'll see - they're projected to make the tournament at least lol -
like_thatMiami has a young team, but Blasi always has his teams peaking well at the end of the season. I can see them struggling a bit, but then coming on strong toward crunch time of the season.

Tiger2003North Dakota heads to Alaska to take on Anchorage and Fairbanks this weekend. ND will be without Andrew MacWilliam, the team’s captain, and alternates Danny Kristo, Corban Knight and Carter Rowney for both games. So hopefully the boys can get two W's. They were all suspended for a party that took place on campus.
This is the last year of the WCHA with all the big dogs left in it. This should be a fun season.
Go ND. -
ptown_trojans_1Damn, CCHA gone?
I have admittedly not followed college hockey like I used to back at OSU.
So, the old CCHA is now split between the Big Ten, WCHA, and the NCHC right?
Does that mean the annual Miami-OSU games are off for next year or will they try and keep them on the schedules?
Man, not a fan of this. I loved the old CCHA. -
gorocks99
Yep ... here are the 2013-2014 major conferences:ptown_trojans_1;1296012 wrote:Damn, CCHA gone?

B1G:
Michigan (CCHA)
Michigan State (CCHA)
Minnesota (WCHA)
Ohio State (CCHA)
Penn State (Independent)
Wisconsin (WCHA)
NCHC:
Colorado College (WCHA)
Denver (WCHA)
Miami (OH) (CCHA)
Minnesota-Duluth (WCHA)
Nebraska-Omaha (WCHA)
North Dakota (WCHA)
St. Cloud State (WCHA)
Western Michigan (CCHA)
WCHA:
Alaska-Anchorage
Alaska-Fairbanks (CCHA)
Bemidji State
Bowling Green (CCHA)
Ferris State (CCHA)
Lake Superior State (CCHA)
Michigan Tech
Minnesota State-Mankato
Northern Michigan (CCHA)
Hockey East:
BC
BU
Connecticut (joining 2014)
Maine
UMass-Amherst
UMass-Lowell
Merrimack
New Hampshire
Northeastern
Notre Dame (CCHA)
Providence
Vermont
B1G fucked everything up.
Also, I'm not sure about OSU/Miami. They may still play, the B1G is going to be a 20-game conference season, which leaves about 15 games for non-conference. They'll probably try to fit in a series each year. -

Because the NCHC didn't want BGSU to join the league. -
gorocks99Any Redhawks (or other) fans headed to the Hockey City Classic at Solider Field in February? I'll be there with a group of 55 (!) cheering on the Gophs

Sadly they don't have to many home games. But it still always a great time to go and watch some hockey. -

Won't be going to this one but will be going to the "Battles on Ice". North Dakota will be playing at the College World Series vs UNO. Pretty pumped for Feb 9. -
gorocks99Damn, Huntsville? Good on ya mate.
New polls are out:
1. Minnesota
2. North Dakota
3. Boston College
4. Miami
5. Michigan
Other teams of note:
9. Notre Dame
(others receiving votes) 23. Maine
(others receiving votes) 25. Ohio State -

Yeah I transferred to my company's corporate offices here in Huntsville in June. It's sad they are on the verge of losing their hockey program as it seems like they have a lot of history. Been to both their games against Alabama and Minnesota State. Alabama was awesome just cause they completely dominated the game and Minnesota State was fun just because the place was packed. I figured since I was here I might as well support them lol.gorocks99;1296409 wrote:Damn, Huntsville? Good on ya mate.

Classyposter58Sad to see this is the last year I'll be going to the Joe for the CCHA Championship. CCHA has evolved into the best conference in college hockey; Michigan, Miami, Notre Dame, Western Michigan, Ferris State and Northern Michigan all look poised for an NCAA tourney birth. Still Minnesota and North Dakota look like AHL teams, they're totally stacked
-
like_thatI know this has been discussed before, but what will the new conference be for the non BIG 10 team's? I know Miami and Notre Dame will be in the same conference. What is the name of the new conference, and who else will be in it?

Hockey East would like to chime in with this argument.Classyposter58;1297343 wrote:Sad to see this is the last year I'll be going to the Joe for the CCHA Championship. Miami is joining the NCHC and Notre Dame is joining Hockey East so they will not be in the same conference. -

I got ND's mixed up. I meant to say North Dakota.
