Whisky discussion

justincredibleI'm just being difficult. I like a good Manhattan, other than that I'd rather drink my whisky neat.

Generally, so do I. I personally can't imagine wanting to drink a flavored one straight, either. Just a matter of how it tastes to me.justincredible;1860753 wrote:I'm just being difficult. I like a good Manhattan, other than that I'd rather drink my whisky neat. -

Yeah, I do love a properly made Old Fashioned, Manhattan, and Bourbon Sidecar.O-Trap;1860756 wrote:Generally, so do I. I personally can't imagine wanting to drink a flavored one straight, either. Just a matter of how it tastes to me.
The apple bourbon that I make is light on flavor, so it does not overpower. I only use the low to mid grade level bourbon. (Beam most of the time.)
It is a nice change up. -

I do love an Old Fashioned as well. Had a friend from Minnesota make one with brandy once (he said it's fairly common in his hometown). That wasn't bad, either, but not as good as it is with whiskey.ptown_trojans_1;1860757 wrote:Yeah, I do love a properly made Old Fashioned, Manhattan, and Bourbon Sidecar.

I've never had a sidecar, though. What's in it? -
ptown_trojans_1A sidecar is normally: 2 oz cognac, 3/4 to 1oz of Cointreau, and 3/4 to 1oz of lemon juice. Shake with ice and strain.
I replace the cognac with bourbon. -

Do you drink that apple bourbon straight or mix it? My favorite cheap bourbon is Old Grandad Bonded. I might consider this apple bourbon recipe with a bottle of the lower quality Old Grandad. I think I can get it for about $16. -

I just add an ice cube. I tried to mix it once and it was not good.justincredible;1860764 wrote:Oh yeah, I love a good Old Fashioned as well.

justincredibleI found out today that the Costco in Florence, KY has 1.75L bottles of Glenlivet 12 Year for $45. That's a hell of a deal.

I csn't even imagine the hilljack mouth breathers you'd see at a KY Costco. I bet the smallest size they stock of Dale Jr. T Shirts is XXL.justincredible;1861451 wrote:I found out today that the Costco in Florence, KY has 1.75L bottles of Glenlivet 12 Year for $45. That's a hell of a deal. -
justincredibleKentucky isn't that bad.

I'll take the hilljack Kentucky mouth breathers over the smug libtards in Cali.Commander of Awesome;1861486 wrote:I csn't even imagine the hilljack mouth breathers you'd see at a KY Costco. I bet the smallest size they stock of Dale Jr. T Shirts is XXL. -

At least in the central region. You have to go west a couple hours past Louisville or head to Appalachia before you start to run into the stereotype as majority.justincredible;1861487 wrote:Kentucky isn't that bad. -

Eh I'll take 70 degree weather, high paying jobs, access to the beach/mountains in the same day over bluegrass, gun nuts, and homophobes. Actually pretty easy decision, LOL.SportsAndLady;1861488 wrote:I'll take the hilljack Kentucky mouth breathers over the smug libtards in Cali. -

Elitist liberal stereotyping. That's a great look, sleeper.Commander of Awesome;1861496 wrote:Eh I'll take 70 degree weather, high paying jobs, access to the beach/mountains in the same day over bluegrass, gun nuts, and homophobes. Actually pretty easy decision, LOL. -

Beach and mountains in the Midwest, high paying jobs, too. 70 degrees weather for parts of the year, like there should be.Commander of Awesome;1861496 wrote:Eh I'll take 70 degree weather, high paying jobs, access to the beach/mountains in the same day over bluegrass, gun nuts, and homophobes. The only tough decision is whether I'd be happy or thrilled if California broke off the US and floated away -

Where are there mountains in the midwest?SportsAndLady;1861499 wrote:Beach and mountains in the Midwest, high paying jobs, too. 70 degrees weather for parts of the year, like there should be.

Part of the year, LOL.
America’s largest state economy is California, which produced $2.44 trillion of economic output in 2015, just slightly above the GDP of France during the same period of $2.42 trillion. I'll take California as it's own state. EZ -

Got last dab of my 4 Roses Small Batch neat by my side. Pretty damn solid whiskey. -
justincredibleWe stocked our bar for a get together over the long weekend and I ended up picking up a bottle of Glenlivet 16 Nadurra. I'm not going to open it until I launch the new version of the OC, so I'm basically using it to light a fire under my ass to finish the rebuild. I think it will provide the necessary motivation.

AutomatikMidwest "beaches" LOL
Ok ok, had some Basil Hayden's over the weekend. Never heard of it, and really good. -
justincredibleBasil Hayden's is a great bourbon.

This is my favorite "everyday" bourbon.Automatik;1861609 wrote: Ok ok, had some Basil Hayden's over the weekend. Never heard of it, and really good. -
AutomatikI'm still rather new to bourbon. What do you mean by "everyday"? <$50/bottle? I don't know much about higher end bourbons, only purchased Blanton's and Breckenridge in the past over $50.
