Trayvon Martin

I'm kind of shocked this story hasn't been discussed on here. For those who don't know a 17 year old black kid was shot by a 28 year old member of the neighborhood watch. It's heating up now with the cries of racism so I thought I would see what the opinion of the OC was on the issue. I couldn't find an article about the story now without the racism angle since it happened at the end of February or I would have posted it. Has anyone followed the story and do you have an opinion?

Been following, especially since I live in FL. The watchman needs arrested and charged point blank! He had no right to follow then end up shooting that kid and he did not follow the dispatcher's recommendation either.

I am pretty sure there was a thread on this though??

Thanks for letting us know what Lebron James did about the situation, will he be a part of the "decision" on what happens to the guy who shot the teen?

I just dont understand how the neighborhood watch guy is still a free man.

If it was reversed and the black kid shot the hispanic kid, he would be in jail for murder. The whole thing is a crock... a kid, regardless of race was killed for no reason.

I am familiar with the story, and I have no opinion.

    Why:
    a) I'm not from Florida.
    b) I didn't know the kid.
    c) I'm not black.

I have no opinion simply because I don't know all the facts. A lot of people on both sides have made a lot of assumptions about guilt/innocence without knowing all the details.

I think it is going to very hard for George Zimmerman to get a fair trial. What's more, if the evidence at trial results in anything short of a guilty verdict, heaven help us.

I wonder what Ender would think of this situation

agreed. he needs to be in jail. they should riot if he gets off. I am a white republican who supports the nra but the law protecting this man is stupid. a person with a backpack and hoodie on is not a reason to question them

They "should" riot?....YOU are an idiot!!!!

There is not a justifiable reason for riots......I didnt notice any whites rioting when OJ was acquited!

What's holding up the charges is Florida's law that if you feel threatened for your life in public you can legally use deadly force. It's absurd. It's such a low threshold that it will be really hard to find him guilty.

Now I see why he was shot at, he wasnt dancing like a white person and he was wearing a hoodie. Now I see what mcburg93 was seeing.

This. Unfortunately to many, the authorities in Florida are following the letter of the law. If the police had detained him he would have a very good case that his is improperly being held, his constitutional rights were being violated, so on and so forth.

Just as an FYI to everyone, the neighbor hood watch patrol guy is latino.

Pretty sure I said the guy should be in jail. I never said anything about the guy wearing a hoodie. All I said was if the guy dont get out of the car or if the kid dont run none of this wouldve happened. More I have read about it the more I believe the kid never ran and the guy that shot was just looking for a reason to shoot anyone.

The part about the riots is one thing I don't agree with, but that is only my opinion. The guy will be murdered within 3 months if he is found not guilty, so let justice be served. I am amazed at Obama, he has swooped in to use this kids murder as a crutch for his re-election, when he claimed that he feels the pain of the family because IF he had a son, he would look just like him. This is a shame that the president would stoop so low to try and use this to gather the blacks around him for re-election, he is as racist as the man who shot the kid. When he loses the election everyone will see his true colors and he will call for riots in the streets and then the idiots that riot can be put down and we can move on.
  • Little Danny
    Yep.

Like I said earlier, I don't know what happened because I wasn't there. Maybe the guy is guilty as hell, maybe he isn't. However, this case has already been tried in the Court of Public Opinion and Zimmerman has been given the Death Penalty.

If the evidence at the actual trial is not enough to convict him (the burden of proof will be on the state of Florida after all) then it is a going to be a total shyte-storm.

I apologize for missing the other thread. You wouldn't believe some of the things that people are writing on Yahoo about this guy being a racist white man. Wow

The guy isn't even white, he is hispanic. I am sure the whites will take the blame in this because he has shopped in some of the same stores that white people have shopped at also.
