I think you will be happy with your choice of Pain and Gain over Iron Man.

Saw The Company You Keep. I enjoyed it. The pieces fell together too quickly at times, though.

Sitting waiting for Pain to Gain to start.

What is The Company You Keep?

Robert Redford and Shia LeBoeuf with other names. About Vietnam activists who've been on run for 30 years.

Pain And Gain was entertaining. I liked The Rock's character.

Yes. I mean I figured I would enjoy it but I liked it much more than I assumed. The Rock was easily my favorite part but it was one of those movies where the whole cast contributed nicely in my opinion.

Iron man was hot garbage....should have checked everyone's opinion here, could have saved some money

    Yes,

[SP]I keep hearing people bragging about the Mandarin "plot twist" and it makes me cringe.[/SP]

That's an interesting comparison, and I agree. As much as everyone here seems to hate IM3, that's how I felt with Dark Knight Rises.
  • bigdaddy2003
I'll take Dark Knight Rises over Iron Man 3. I enjoyed most of Dark Knight Rises outside of Bane being the muscle rather than the head villain. Iron Man 3 was almost a comedy. I realize there has been a ton of humor whenever Robert Downey Jr has been on screen in all 3 movies but this one just seemed to be a little much. I will buy Dark Knight Rises. I won't touch Iron Man 3.

I suppose it depends on expectations. In the Marvel universe whether it is Avengers or Iron Man IMO there's a level of escapism. Nolan set the bar high and grounding his Batman films in some sort of reality. Yet nothing about Dark Knight Rises' plot made any sense. I have no idea why the head editor didn't try to reel in the story.
  • bigdaddy2003
Right. I understand what you are getting at MB. I guess I was just expecting much more based on the trailers for Iron Man. I just felt like they over did the comedy and the "plot twist" I've mentioned in the spoilers just irked me beyond belief. Like I said before I heard Joss Whedon mention he was worried about Avengers 2 having to live up to Iron Man III before I went into the theater. So I was pretty disappointed.

At the risk of sounding like Scarlet, I walked away from IM3 entertained. In the end, isn't that movies are for?

Agreed....about what they are supposed to be. But I caught myself constantly checking my watch because of how bored I was. It had fancy set pieces, but the story and most importantly in these type movies....the villains were lame
  • Manhattan Buckeye
Agreed that the villains were not particularly interesting, but neither was the villain in the first Iron Man film. With Iron Man it is all about Robert Downey Jr.

Iron man 3 had the worst villain/twist of all time.

Yeah, [SP]but we weren't tricked into believing the villain was someone else. I don't look at it as this big bad plot twist. I was really pumped for Mandarin to be the head villain and they end up making him into a joke and go with the lesser known villain who doesn't have the powers he possessed in the movie if I understand it correctly. I realize Downey Jr is the big draw but to me they over did the comedy and the "plot twist" sealed it's fate to a lot of people.[/SP]

I don't remember where, but I read somewhere that most people were saying that Iron Man 3 was "the best Iron Man yet" and "better than the Avengers".

I have to say that MAYBE it was better than Iron Man 2, but my Lord to be honest it was mediocre at best.

The Avengers was FAR better, and while it wasn't as bad as movies like Dare Devil or Elektra, I'd say it was as good as Thor at best.

    The Fantastic Four was better.

There are people who thought it was better than Avengers? Wow, I guess I just didn't get it. I felt like I was watching a comedy the whole time and I kept looking at my phone clock every 2 mins after the villain debacle.

    I actually liked Thor.

And this was similar to avengers with all the awful one line jokes...but I guess avengers had enough variety to keep me interested

I liked Thor as well. The Downey Jr. comedy worked in Avengers because he wasn't in the movie the whole time. Iron Man 3 literally felt like a comedy with Downey Jr, Cheadle's cheesy one liners, and the Ben Kingsley angle.
  • Scarlet_Buckeye
Iron Man 3 was closer to Ghost Rider than it was to The Avengers.

Indeed they are... And I wasn't entertained. I was completely disappointed. Like Wes, I kept checking the time... It seemed like the movie just wouldn't end...

I'm with you on Avengers. Fun decent mindless action movie with terrible dialogue and plot. Fun for what is was, but not even in the same category as Dark Knight, which was a great film.

Dark Knight and Batman Begins are the only good super hero movies. The rest have been fun mindless action films.

There have been though, other great comic book movies: Sin City, 300, Road to Perdition as examples.
