College Basketball Random Chatter 2016-17

Disagree entirely with the hiring of Miller being better than Alford. Steve is an all time great Hoosier and totally understands the culture as well as what it takes to win there. I'm worried this is too big of a jump for Miller and he'll struggle to adjust to much better coaching and much tougher recruiting battles

Why would Harry Giles come back with all his injuries? If he can get picked in the lottery, or even mid-late 1st round, that's better than if he puts 25 MPG on tape next year and isn't that great. Before the injuries (even after the first one0, he was the best player in the country. Think this Freshman class is amazing with Tatum, Fox, Jackson, Monk, Fultz, Smith, etc...Harry Giles was better than all of them.

The Classy "seal of approval" is the death sentence to everyone not named Classy. Looks like Indiana made the right hire...

Dayton hires Anthony Grant, formerly of VCU and Bama.

Game could change on a flagrant foul review.

    Looked like some acting.
  • Ironman92
Called a flagrant one on a tipped pass and player going for where she thought ball was going...on her way up her hand grazed the Uconn player and hit her just wrong causing some pain....wasn't called until after stoppage. Awful

Steak is over on a buzzer beater!

    And down goes UCONN
  • Ironman92
Uconn tied with ball for final shot and drove the lane with 15 seconds left lol. Way to understand basketball.

Yeah it looked like the UCONN player was acting.

I agree that was awful, and a flop. It was no worse than the play following the free throws when the UConn player took it to the basket with 12-15 seconds left and got called for the player control foul and stuck her elbow right into Itybity's face. A foul was called there and it made made more sense to review that one than the one they called, if it weren't for the acting on the one they did review.

There's Madness in March, even with the women...what a game!

Duke and Kentucky will probably have literally a new roster next season. Both teams going to lose like 8-10 scholarship players.
  • wildcats20
Marques Bolden is also leaving Duke.
  • Azubuike24
Giles going pro, Tatum going pro, Bolden transferring, Jeter transferring. Also rumors that Kennard and Allen leave, along with Jones and Jefferson graduating. Might be Frank Jackson and I'm not even sure he's a lock to return.

Kentucky in the same boat. Fox and Monk are 100% gone. Sounds like Adebayo, Briscoe, Gabriel and Humphries also likely declaring. Along with 3 Seniors gone.
  • ironman02
Latest I read is that Allen is likely to return and Kennard is likely to leave. Duke is bringing in Wendell Carter, Gary Trent Jr., and Alex O'Connell, plus they're still in the running for Trevon Duval, Kevin Knox, and Mohamed Bamba. Could be Allen, Jackson, and a bunch of freshmen.

Are Briscoe, Gabriel, and Humphries seriously all leaving? That would really surprise me, but I get that Briscoe may be at his ceiling and the other two may be about size and potential.

Briscoe wanted to be a OAD and came back for year 2. He won't be drafted but he's basically decided to leave even before the season.

Humphries reportedly was upset at his role all year and had planned to pursue professional opportunities in Australia (he's only 19), but that was before he had the best game of his career in the Elite 8. With that said, Calipari has shown that he has a propensity to play his new OAD's over a guy like Humphries, and UK is still going for Bamba and they will have a ton of bigs coming in next year. If they got Bamba, Humphries is probably 3rd or 4th in-line in the front court, and I wouldn't blame him for bolting. Still, if he puts in the work, he's got the game to be a really good upperclassman if he stays.

Gabriel is horrible and would be by far the biggest mistake. However, he's kind of like Giles. A guy who went where he went because he was already decided on being a OAD no matter what. Neither of those guys did shit to show anything in college, but it doesn't seem to matter. If a team is willing to draft them just based on their ceiling, then whatever.
