National Semifinal Sugar Bowl OSU vs Alabama

I know, I'm a Michigan fan so I'm not supposed to comment here. But I thought it was terrible call, and there wasn't a Buckeye fan in the room I was in that liked it either. It basically gave Alabama an extra timeout.SportsAndLady;1692351 wrote:In college there isn't that much of a difference between getting the ball needing a touchdown with 55 seconds left and same situation but with 1:30 left. That playcall was to end the game. Even if you run the ball in that situation (and don't get a first down) you're not going to end the game. The call was a bit unorthodox but it was not "piss poor"
But, in the end it didn't matter, so who cares? -
SonofanumpOverall the play calling was very good, the throw on first down was a horrible idea (regardless if it worked or not), a coin flip they could have run the ball three times for a first down and ended the game there. Beyond that and not pounding the ball with the run at first and goal inside the 5 in the first quarter twice, the play calling was not to be complained about. I'd think the OC graded out near 95%.

supermanThey had 10 guys within a yard of the LOS, it was worth a shot.

Exactly. Worth a shot.superman;1692360 wrote:They had 10 guys within a yard of the LOS, it was worth a shot.
It was a difference of 30 seconds off the clock. -

Passing 10-15 yards for a first down....I'm all for it.....but a difficult pass 45 yards down the field is far far more difficult to complete on the sideline.SportsAndLady;1692365 wrote:Exactly. Worth a shot.

If they want to put it away why not scramble Jones a bit to his better throwing side and have anyone go 10-15 yards to an open spot and do that.....and if it's not very open just take a 2-4 yard loss and force a timeout use......could do that all 3 time with a variation of play.....the biggest flaw is maybe 10 yards of losses but 35 less seconds on the clock and 3 chances of completely sealing the game. -

Typical idiotic post by you. You continue to amaze with your utter ignorance. Just because they won the game doesn't mean people can't question the play calling. You sir...are a fucking idiot.SportsAndLady;1692333 wrote:Why the fuck are we talking about Urban's coaching in a game we won? Shut the fuck up footwedge. -

Yes...it was one of the biggest blunders ever made by a coaching staff NOT challenging that slam dunk overturn. If that hail Mary is answered at the end of the game, people would be calling for Urban's head.SportsAndLady;1692344 wrote:But but but what about Urban's decision not to call a timeout to force a challenge to the fumble play?!?!

Of course you said Browns fans would be running Pettine out of town, after Manziel wrecked this league, so I guess you tend to overstate things from time to time.

Yet another idiotic post by you. So in the college game, a team has the same chance of going 80 yards with no time outs left with only 50 seconds left versus 90 seconds left. Good thing I don't mod here. Don't like dumb asses polluting threads.SportsAndLady;1692351 wrote:In college there isn't that much of a difference between getting the ball needing a touchdown with 55 seconds left and same situation but with 1:30 left. I never said anything about running Pettine out of town...EVER. Don't make shit up. And YES people would be calling for Urb's head for not challenging a slam dunk overturn...had they blown the game.HighRoller74;1692410 wrote:No they wouldn't.

Passing for 15 yards is a better percentage play...but is still a really dumb idea. Run it 3 times and try to pick it up. Also...this shit that they had 10 in the box is baloney. Sure they stacked the line. But there were receivers downfield and obviously they were all covered.Ironman92;1692388 wrote:Passing 10-15 yards for a first down....I'm all for it.....but a difficult pass 45 yards down the field is far far more difficult to complete on the sideline.

dwccrewReading this thread from the start of the game to the end (after the fact) has been comic gold.

Spockpassing the ball in that situation is a great call since you are single covered all over the field and our recievers are good. But slinging it deep is stupid. Passing 10-15 yards is the call.

It gave bama 4 or 5 extra plays. It is a huge difference.SportsAndLady;1692351 wrote:In college there isn't that much of a difference between getting the ball needing a touchdown with 55 seconds left and same situation but with 1:30 left. The point is clear. Buckeyes sent 3 people out and all were covered. Are there 13 people on defense? Secondly, it DOSENT MATTER if the line was stacked. Running clock far and away gave them the best chance to win. And....it wouldn't be the first time a team pounded out 10 yards with 3 running plays against a stacked line. Glad you don't coach any of my teams. Every fellow Buckeye fan I know agree Urban blew it there. With a national title at stake, he should be thanking the good Lord at church today that he didn't ruin it for these kids who have written a Hollywood script.superman;1692466 wrote:Not sure if you didn't see the play or can't count. -

What if I told you that a db can start the play within a yard of the LOS and can backpedal back into coverage?Footwedge;1692651 wrote:The point is clear. thavoiceI guess maybe being in ohio that many of us were looking through OSU colored glasses. Since that game, and hearing the national pundits talk about how no one predicted or expected OSU to win and big of an upset it was.
Going in, and I am not even what you call an OSU fan, I thought OSU had a very good chance at winning the game as I didnt believe alabama was as great as they were saying!
