CFP Rankings

slingshot4everHere is what I do not understand about last weeks playoff rankings. Given that they put TCU ahead of FSU, does that mean FSU would have been number 5 had MSU beaten Ole Miss? I wish ESPN would have asked Jeff Long that question.

No, despite being #4, FSU is not in any jeopardy of missing out no matter how many 1-loss schools are out there. It's sending a message to FSU, IMO.slingshot4ever;1682876 wrote:Here is what I do not understand about last weeks playoff rankings. It's possible the committee wants to set up certain matchups.Azubuike24;1682918 wrote:No, despite being #4, FSU is not in any jeopardy of missing out no matter how many 1-loss schools are out there. It's sending a message to FSU, IMO. -
Azubuike24Yeah, and it's one thing I think the committee should NOT be involved in. Rank the 4 teams. That's it. Wherever they fall, they fall.
With that said, the way it is NOW, you're likely going to see Alabama/Florida State in the Sugar Bowl and Oregon/Big 12 or Ohio State in the Rose Bowl.
This would work out perfectly for traditional match-ups, barring that FSU wins another struggle and they keep them 4th.
That could be what they want... -
Ironman92Ok
Oregon and TCU are locks.
Go Georgia Tech! -

Ironman92TCU vs Baylor
Non-conference:
Baylor 188-27 over (SMU, NW St, @Buffalo)
TCU 134-21 over (Samford, Minnesota and @ SMU)
Impressiveness is equal...you might give TCU and edge handily defeating a Top 30 Minnesota.
Head to Head Baylor at home wins 61-58 ....the edge and the W goes to Baylor. Not sure the value of home vs away in college football but most would presume that might be the difference in who wins this matchup.....but slight edge to Baylor as the W is theirs.
Vs Big 12 opponents
@ WVU ....TCU won in thrilling fashion at the very end and Baylor lost by 2 TD....nice edge by TCU
Oklahoma....TCU 37-33 at TCU, Baylor won @ OK 41-18....nice edge to Baylor
Ok State....TCU 42-9 and Baylor won 49-28, smallest edge to TCU
Kansas....TCU 34-30, Baylor 60-14....edge Baylor
Texas Tech....TCU 82-27, Baylor 48-46.....edge TCU
@Texas.....TCU 48-10, Baylor 28-7.....edge TCU
Iowa St....TCU 55-3 in 4th, Baylor 49-28 @ISU....slight edge TCU
Kansas St...TCU 41-20, Baylor ???
IMO between the non-conference and head to head matchup.....it's dead even but with just this info would have to have Baylor just above TCU (even though really it probably just came down to Baylor was at home)
Adding in the Big 12 comparisons....the WVU and Oklahoma comparisons just about cancel each other out (but if had to TCU won both and would actually be the edge but for sales of this....these matchups of impressiveness cancel each other out)
Same goes for TCU struggling with terrible Kansas and Baylor struggling with terrible Texas Tech.
So to this point still dead even in my book considering everything.
The remaining....
@Texas....both won handily but TCU gets the edge as they just dominated in closing out that game. Iowa St....TCU decently more convincing even though both won easily. Ok St...TCU dominated them more.
TCU being more dominant in all 3 of those matchups has the overall edge......all with only the K State comparison to use.
TCU won 41-20 in fairly dominant fashion on the scoreboard.
If Baylor wins by 40 I might call it even with those other 3 matchups that gave TCU the edge.....but really barring a 63-21 Baylor win over KSU....I'm choosing TCU every time on which team is better and who had the better season. -
Midstate01Didn't baylor only play like 2 teams with winning records?

If it is close, then head to head should be the tie breaker.Ironman92;1682966 wrote:TCU vs Baylor

If Baylor wins easily tonight, case closed to me, they should jump TCU. -

TCU 12-1Midstate01;1682968 wrote:Didn't baylor only play like 2 teams with winning records?
KSU 9-2
@Oklahoma 8-3
@WVU 7-5
Also @ 6-6 Texas and vs 5-6 OK St
The only difference in schedule TCU was vs Minnesota and Baylor was @Buffalo
Not much difference. Both played winless SMU and TCU played Samford and Baylor played NW State. -
Ironman92
So I'd Baylor beats KSU like TCU did you jump them over TCU?ptown_trojans_1;1682971 wrote:If it is close, then head to head should be the tie breaker.

No way in my book.....when comparing all 12 games. -
slingshot4everGoing to come down to FSU OSU for #4....

Unfortunately the Buckeyes will need to do more than win and cover the spread to have a shot.slingshot4ever;1682999 wrote:Going to come down to FSU OSU for #4....
If FSU wins...they lock #4 unless Ohio State wins and wins convincingly. -
slingshot4everI meant that. We need to win and have GT win.

HitsRusIf The Seminoles win, they are in... The only undefeated will not be left out. Buckeyes must win and hope Fla St. loses.

IggyPride00They are going to move to 8 teams in the near future I suspect.
8 is the perfect number as it gets you the 5 conference champs and then 3 at larges.
When you have 5 power conferences and 4 slots this is going to continue to be a problem.
The Big 10 president should be leading the charge to expand to 8 because as the worst of the power 5 conferences they are likely to keep being left out unless they expand the number. -
ts1227
This looks unfortunately like there's no way around it. 1-3 won in blowouts, and #4 (will be) 13-0 in a power conference. I just don't see them jumping OSU over anyone even though they are absolutely demolishing the Badgers.slingshot4ever;1683205 wrote:Looks like 5th for OSU... -
Lovejoy1984TCU falls to 5th, OSU moves in to 4th.
K-State ends up being the best win that they have, and with them losing they will drop down to 13-15th.
Where as OSU's best win is MSU, which will be ranked no worse than 7th. -
ts1227
I'm not convinced they will drop TCU 2. They played a 2-10 team, but since they beat the shit out of them I worry that they only flip-flop 3 and 4.HighRoller74;1683225 wrote:TCU falls to 5th, OSU moves in to 4th.

Also I don't see them givng a shit about Baylor beating them, since they haven't up to this point.
It could easily be a pride thing with this committee. By dropping TCU out after everyone , including TCU, blew their opponent out (except FSU, who will be 13-0 to compensate), if they change their top 4 they are basically admitting they were wrong last week. Will they do that?
Honestly, they needed to keep a BCS-esque formula to get their top 4. To make it solely human determined is a fucking disaster. -
