CFP Rankings

The big issue is so many people were conditioned by traditional polls. The CFP Committee even said tehy went in with a clean slate and weren't doing the head to head until the end of the season.

There will always be a controversy, look at the basketball tournament for crying out loud.

Four is at least better than two, eight might be best, but at that point you will have a few 2 loss teams and maybe even a 3 loss team some years and I think that would dilute the regular season too much.

    Every single word of THIS.

It's quite comical to me that people refuse to understand that it's not a season long, rolling poll.

They could have decided that Mississippi State was the 4th best team in the country if the top 5-7 all struggled. Clearly, that is a stretch, but I think it gets the point across.

The committee doing "up to this point" rankings is just completely blowing people's

It a was the calm before the storm because the committee wasn't attempting to predict the future.

They hadn't yet factored champions or head to head up till that point.

So when the dominoes fall and the last punch by TCU was beating a terrible team it didn't add much when other yeahs were doubling up on their strength of total resumes

Yeah, we have to re-learn how this all works. As the pundits say, before if you were in a spot, and won, you stayed or moved up.

Not so much this year. Would just be tough to take for many.
OSU fans would be pissed if lets say michigan was a 2 win team, and OSU went from 3rd to 6th after beating them. I think they got it right, but it has to burn alot of people!

You're missing the point. It wasn't about TCU playing and beating a 2 win team.

It was about the fact that head to head hasn't been factored in yet (So TCU was still ahead of Baylor) and that the Championship games (and lack thereof for the Big 12) haven't been factored in yet.

I think the head to head should have already been factored in......but hey, the committee got it right.

You can make an argument and present the numbers for either team. It's not clear cut.

Bottom line is, if the Big 12 had a conference title game we wouldn't even be having this discussion. IMO regardless of who won it, that additional quality win would put them in over OSU. The Big 12 fucked it up and they know it. Why else would Bob Bowlsby be scrambling to change shit up the day after they were left out?

    The butthurt is real.
  • Automatik
    I'm thoroughly enjoying it.
  • HitsRus
I don't think it would take a genius to figure out that with only 4 team playoff scenario, whichever power conference got left out would be "butthurt". On the other hand, are there really 8 teams that deserve consideration?...absolutely not.

NCAA rules prohibit a conference 'Championship Game' if you don't have 12 teams. Big 12 needs to get the rule changed or add 2 more teams.
  • Automatik
Well can't they get a waiver from the NCAA allowing if if they have less than 12?

Regardless, they talked and talked that the round robin format was the way to go (did you see that dumbass B12 commercial? lol) and in the end it fucked them over.

Which is why I think the 6 team format would be perfect. Let the Texa$ idiots play each other, let us destroy FSU, and give #1 and #2 a bye.

The fact that both schools that got fucked over are from TX is only slightly less enjoyable than if it had been two from FL. Sucks to be you and STFU.

Lets say that the Big 12 had a championship game with the same number of teams(easier to add a 13th game than to add 2 teams to the conference) and TCU beat Baylor by 3. Would that have helped their cause at all? No matter who plays in their conference championship game, it would be a rematch of the regular season and a 10th conference game. Only the Pac12 has 9 season conference games too. A rematch would be the same way with how the Pac-12 worked out and the Big Ten was a Minnesota win over Wisconsin away from happening as well.

The true bottom line is Baylor's OOC (along with the loss to WVU) and its not improving until 2016.

2015 - SMU, Lamar and Rice
2016 - Northwester, SMU and Rice
2017 - Liberty, UTSA and Duke
    2018 - UTSA, Duke
2019 - Incarnate Word, UTSA and Rice

UTSA almost beat Arizona this year (28-26)....but yeah terrible.

SMU has 1 win a year, Rice compiled a decent record but beat no one....like a middle tier MAC team.
  • sportswizuhrd
Looking at past schedules of Baylor, it looks like their OOC schedule took a big hit when TCU was added to the conference. Have not read anything about how long the matchup was scheduled for but they played the two years prior to TCU going the Big 12 and in '06 and '07.
  • wildcats20
Briles has publicly said he won't change his scheduling. I have a feeling that will change after this. Had they played a better OOC, they probably get in.
  • Tiernan
Baylor themselves used to be an automatic win for anybody lucky enough to play them. They'll be back there again soon enough.
