how do you see the playoff?
-
coachchucki see it being
SEC Winner even with a lose (#1 seed regardless of a lose)
Pac 12 winner even with a loss (#3 seed unless undefeated)
Big Ten Winner or Big 12 Winner one needs to be undefeated (#2 seed if undefeated)
Sec Runner up (#4 seed) -
thavoiceAs we all wanted the playoff, the BCS wasnt as bad as people as most believe.
At least it gave us a NC game between 1 and 2. Before that it was a joke.
I think a playoff will force teams to play an even weaker NC schedule.
If you are and SEC, Big10,PAC12, etc team and go undefeated....you can pretty much expect to be in the 4 team playoff no matter how bad your NC is (assuming you play DI teams).
The argument right now will be with one loss teams, which there usually is a good amount of, and they will have to sift through the wreckage to figure out who is deserving.
The playoff will just shift the arguments to whom is the 3th and 4rd team.... -
wildcats20Well FSU is going to have a lot to say about it this first year.
So the OP scenario won't happen. -
sleeperI'm okay with the 4 team format but there needs to be a 'must be your conference champion in order to make the playoffs'.

It's completely feasible for a conference to have 2 of the top 4 best teams in the country, so I'd rather not dilute that by worrying about how the schools group themselves together for scheduling, essentially.sleeper;1599395 wrote:I'm okay with the 4 team format but there needs to be a 'must be your conference champion in order to make the playoffs'.
If there was a playoff back in 06 and there was such a stipulation, the B1G would have been screwed out of their deserving second team in. -
lakeflyerMikeFrankly I dont care if they put 4 SEC teams in if there the 4 best teams in college football. Bets watch Notre Dame get pushed around against Alabama 2 years ago.

Yes, but in football you don't play everyone in the country and the schedule is much shorter. There's no way to 'prove' that a conference has the best teams in the country so your only filter is to say 'This team won this conference and is the best this conference has to offer!". Pre-2006 no one gave Florida a chance and the SEC was largely a junk conference but we didn't know that because SEC teams weren't playing a B1G schedule and vice versa. By winning your conference, you are filtering the other 10 or so teams in that conference that you are better than; this system is designed to award the best team in CFB not the top 2 teams or the top 4 teams, but THE BEST. Win your conference or GTFO.ts1227;1599397 wrote:It's completely feasible for a conference to have 2 of the top 4 best teams in the country, so I'd rather not dilute that by worrying about how the schools group themselves together for scheduling, essentially.

ernest_t_bass8 team playoff would be much better. Champs of: B1G, SEC, ACC, Pac 12, Big 12 (am I forgetting one?), then go 3 at large. In my opinion, the champions of those major conferences all deserve a shot.

This is what I want as well. 5 'BCS' conference champions get a bid. Then preference is given to undefeated Mid Majors for the remaining 3 slots(ND included). If there are no undefeated mid majors, the 3 slots go to the 3 highest in the AP(or coaches) poll regardless of conference. This essentially gives EVERYONE the opportunity to control their own destiny and eliminates any complaining about 'Why did so and so get in and not so and so?' because the easy response is 'Stop crying and win your conference(or don't lose to Idaho State in the MWC).ernest_t_bass;1599452 wrote:8 team playoff would be much better. I agree there, especially with a 4 team format.sleeper;1599395 wrote:I'm okay with the 4 team format but there needs to be a 'must be your conference champion in order to make the playoffs'.
Now if it would go to an 8 team I could see 2 from one conference making it. -

Oh, so something based on complete subjectivity that isn't at all influence by big media deals with popular sports networks. Sign me up!lakeflyerMike;1599457 wrote:Eye test, I think its pretty obvious there better then all others most years -

Not bad, but there were years in the BCS that a conference, ACC I think, didnt have a team really worthy of it.ernest_t_bass;1599452 wrote:8 team playoff would be much better. I would have some sort of provision that the champs will get in unless a certain parameter wasnt met. -

lakeflyerMikeWhat does the media have to do with watch the games on TV? I dont watch ESPN for knowledge
-

You really think the media and coaches watch every game and can determine with no bias which team is better than the other; even across multiple conferences in which teams will never play each other?lakeflyerMike;1599464 wrote:What does the media have to do with watch the games on TV? lakeflyerMikeI get the coaches cant and dont watch any other games, but I would think everyweek a group of people could sit down on a saturday and watch 5 games and determine the 4 best teams

Classyposter588 is way too many, lets hope to God this never happens. 3 extra games after a 12/13 game schedule would probably force a mass exodus to the NFL, why would you stay at OSU if you're on the fence when you end the season with 5 brutally physical games. No one of consequence would stay for their senior season
Also lets not cheapen the best regular season in sports. Missouri and OSU were good but no way did they deserve to play for a title, yet an 8 team playoff would have let them -
coachchuckI would have said going into the bowl games my top four:
Auburn
Alabama
FSU
MSU
After the bowl games:
FSU
Auburn
MSU
Oklahoma
