how do you see the playoff?

Schedule 4 NC games, mostly at home, and sprinkle in a legit team every once in awhile. Then play the predetermined league schedule that also includes a few pansies, every so often get the easy end of the stick on the rotating of the league games where you miss on some good teams and get the tough ones at home....
I wish the B1G would reach an agreement with ND, where they still let them broadcast their home games with NBC, then away games are up for grabs. Regardless of how pissed Sleeper would be, I'd love to see ND in the B1G.

Translation: You're making me look stupid here, Sherm. So I'll just throw out a dig at the team you cheer for to try to save face.

I think it is the other way around, that ND would reach one with the big10.

It wouldnt expand their base for the big ten network though and that is bad for the conference!

In a 4 team playoff, there is not enough spaces...so you have to account for the fact that the best teams can be from the same conference somehow
Which is exactly why you have a conference champion filter. The conference champion is the signal that says "I AM THE BEST TEAM FROM MY CONFERENCE".

Not really. Your logic is flawed. If team A beats team B, then team A is better than team B. There are no ifs ands or buts. If team B was better, they would beat Team A. Are you really this dense?

Why would I be pissed? Ohio State would beat the living fuck out of ND every year and it would be glorious.

I prefer 8 as well with the format I've described before.

Mercer is not better than Duke in basketball this year. But they were better than Duke on March 21st.

Notre Dame was not better than Michigan State in football last year. But they were better than MSU on September 21st.

    Are you really that dense?

If Duke is a better team than Mercer, why didn't Duke beat Mercer?

Hold the phones everyone, Sherm thinks we should have a subjective system to determine the champion of any sport rather than wins on the field. LOL. Please go watch competitive horseback riding if you want that.

You know...I blame myself. I let myself get sucked into Sleeper being Sleeper. Should have known better...

Enjoy your watered down system sleeper. I can just hope that there comes a time when OSU beats someone like USC in the regular season, and then USC wins the Pac 12 and OSU loses in the B1G championship and you can complain about how OSU is better than USC and deserves the bid more because they beat USC because you like to completely abandon your stance on arguments when it goes against what you want.

Why would OSU deserve a spot in a 4 team playoff if they can't even win their own conference? I'm not sure what there would be to complain about in that scenario. Now if OSU won the B1G and beat Pac-12 champion USC in the regular season and somehow got left out; hell yeah I would complain.

And yeah I was totally complaining last year when 1-loss SEC champ Auburn was picked over 1-loss Ohio State. Grow up.

Shit. I wasn't aware that Ohio State beat Auburn last year to make that similar to the situation I listed, and that there was a 4 team playoff this year. Thanks for helping me clear that up.

OSU wasn't the B1G champion. Auburn was a champion. No complaints.

So, let me throw this example out there for you guys.

Using the SEC, say a sub par SEC team with 4+ losses wins the SEC east (GA for this example)

And say Bama is undefeated Auburn/LSU one loss each.

In the SEC Title game Georiga wins, Thus making them the conference champion.

However, Bama/Auburn/LSU each have one loss, and are more than likely ranked in the Top 7 with 2 ranked in top 4., what do you do? Who gets in to the 4 team playoff?

Do we take 3 SEC schools because they are subjectively the best or do we take only the 4 highest ranked major conference champions?
  • lakeflyerMike
You have to take the top 4 teams no matter what conference their from.

But I believe this isn't possible unless Auburn and LSU tie during the regular season.

Not in an 8 team playoff!

We have 4 other BCS conferences. I would take all of them over Georgia because Georgia is terrible and yet are the best the SEC has to offer.

on a side note this proves once again a new format has been given and we are still not happy. Who is the top four teams last year before the bowl games?

    Big Ten champs MSU
    Sec champs Auburn
Pac 12 champ Standford /Big 12 Champ OKlahoma
    Acc champs FSU
    Alabama

    Give me your thoughts
  • lakeflyerMike
I agree coachchuck, if we had 8 teams playing in a playoff the 1st team out would be bitching about not getting in. It's never going to change.

Playoffs last year should have been FSU, Auburn, MSU, and Stanford. There really isn't any controversy in those selections until you factor in delusional SEC nut jobs who think 4 SEC teams should be in the playoffs every year because SEC.

Doesn't matter. With a 4 team playoff, if you have 2 teams from the same conference, then 3 teams have legitimate gripes, as conference champions being snubbed. In my opinion, the perfect scenario is a 6 team playoff. 5 automatics, and 1 at large, and the at large is always a #6 seed. I don't give a shit if they are the #2 (or #1) best team in the country. They didn't win their conference. If they want to prove they are #1, win the rest of them. We simply cannot reward a team for NOT winning their conference, while snubbing conference champions at the same time.

Pre bowl, I agree. After bowl, I'd replace Stanford with Oklahoma.

Get rid of the subjectivity and give each team the opportunity to control its own destiny then the bitching becomes irrelevant. Look at March Madness every year, 68 teams and we still have bubble criers; but the reality is those teams know if they want in they had the opportunity to win their conference and earn their way into the tournament.

8 teams; 5 automatic qualifiers for winning a power conference(SEC, B1G, B12, PAC, ACC); 3 at larges that must select undefeated mid majors or independents. If none exist, you take the 3 highest ranked teams at the final AP/Coaches poll regardless of conference. You may have a once in a century situation where you have 4 undefeated mid majors and someone would get left out and would bitch but you can't plan for every scenario in the world.
