Agreed. Troy Smith was a 3*.queencitybuckeye;1550905 wrote:Meaningless. "Pitt" Brown was a 5*, and coaching isn't the reason he isn't playing like one. The whole 5* 4* stuff is a joke. -

As are the majority of D1 rosters, even at elite schools.sleeper;1550910 wrote:Agreed. Troy Smith was a 3*. -

I don't disagree, the rating can be off. That being said, Alabama has dominated recruiting for the past few years and currenlty have the top program in the country. So they in fact, do mean something. And no matter what star rating a player has, the coaches still have to develop these players as well.queencitybuckeye;1550905 wrote:Meaningless. It means nothing of the sort. Alabama "dominated recruiting" by getting the most players who can play at the top level. OTOH, they also have as many or more 5* and 4* guys who can't play a lick.centralbucksfan;1550917 wrote:I don't disagree, the rating can be off. No offense, but ur wrong. If you look at the top programs year in and year out, they are also the top programs in terms of recruting as well. That is a fact. Those ratings do mean smoething. No, they are not always right on the money with every player obviously. But those rankings do in fact mean something.queencitybuckeye;1550921 wrote:It means nothing of the sort. Yeah, if you simply look at player star ratings and say that a team is loaded with great players because of that, you also must be utterly shocked when you see a first-round NFL pick bomb. Determining what great players at one level will continue being great at the next is always going to be a very inexact science.queencitybuckeye;1550921 wrote:It means nothing of the sort. Because people have time to watch thousand's of high school football games and determine what 18 year old is better than the other? It's a good guess at best.queencitybuckeye;1550921 wrote:It means nothing of the sort. Alabama "dominated recruiting" by getting the most players who can play at the top level. TiernanRemember the 5* LB kid from NEO (D'antonio?) that was the next Speilman, Butkus combined? Kid never played a single down for OSU after numerous practice injuries. He didn't play in the all-star game at Crew stadium and another LB named AJ Hawk took his place and everybody was like this kid is too smallish to play big time LB.

AutomatikI know who you're talking about, although his name slips my mind. The kid couldn't catch a break, one devastating injury after another.

D'Andrea or something like that? Can't remember the exact name, but I think that's at least close.Automatik;1550967 wrote:I know who you're talking about, although his name slips my mind. The kid couldn't catch a break, one devastating injury after another. -

I'm sure the correlation is high though. I'd love to see the analysis of star rating in high school to $M(adjusted) salary in the NFL.Tiernan;1551022 wrote:yeah D'Andrea thats the guy. Point is the star system doesnt always guarantee PT.
