I hope this is sarcasm? Matta could sell quite a bit more than Crean could.Laley23;1594149 wrote:
Im optimistic as an IU fan cause of his stated desire to make the NBA after next year and needing a coach to develop him into that. Wade and Oladipo are great selling points on that. -

Not necessarily in developing guys who werent gonna make the NBA regardless of college coach.centralbucksfan;1594190 wrote:I hope this is sarcasm? Matta could sell quite a bit more than Crean could.
I take Oladipo and Wade over Evan Turner any day of the week if I am a kid in those types of shoes (which is what Lee is). -
centralbucksfan
Oladipo and Wade were/are FREAK athletes. Turner is not. Turner was national player of the year and top 5 NBA pick. What they do in the NBA means nothing in terms of development. Matta has many other players he could throw out there in terms of player development as well. Add in his success overall compared to Crean...its really not that close.Laley23;1594193 wrote:Not necessarily in developing guys who werent gonna make the NBA regardless of college coach.

So I am not sure how much that would factor in when you compare. At worst, its even. But I don't think its really that close when it comes to coaching development and success. -
ernest_t_bassLOL. F*ck off, buckeyes.
-
ohiobucks1And not just turner, he can currently claim Sullinger and Conely Jr. too.

Thats fine, but Ill take the opinion of NBA scouts who think Crean develops and prepares his kids for the NBA better than anyone in college right now.centralbucksfan;1594204 wrote:Oladipo and Wade were/are FREAK athletes. From the sounds of it, Lee couldnt give two fucks about anything else, literally, anything. He would rather make the NBA than win. Just read his quotes lol.
And what the do in the NBA having nothing to do with development is very shortsided. What kid doesnt care what the players do in the NBA? We arent talking about 50 year old white man watching his favorite team. We are talking about a 22 year old black basketball player. What the players do very much means a lot to their decision, no matter if they have ANY shot to duplicate it. They all think they can.
I personally think Mattas development of players is one of his flaws (this article break it down pretty well. http://www.landgrantholyland.com/2014/2/19/5407560/ohio-state-basketball-can-thad-matta-develop-players). I can go back to Crean at Marquette and list players who didnt have an NBA game that he got there. Cant do the same with Matta at all, really.
Lazar Hayward, Wes Mathews, Travis Fucking Diener, Steve Novak, Dwayne Wade, Victor Oladipo...
Matta has Evan Turner and Othello Hunter (if you count a JC Transfer as development). Maybe count David West, but he was an All-American when Matta arrived.
Ill take the guys Crean has turned into pros if I am a kid who wants to make the NBA but needs a coach and system to get him there. -
Laley23
I couldve coached those guys to the NBA, come on now.ohiobucks1;1594224 wrote:And not just turner, he can currently claim Sullinger and Conely Jr. too.
There is a reason I left off Cody Zeller and Noah Vonleh for Crean. They came into college as no brainers. Same with Oden, Koufos, Sully, etc. We are talking about guys who went to college with little chance at making the NBA. Crean has proven time and time again to be one of the best in these areas. Matta has not.
Unfortunately, Crean doesnt have much skill in coaching talent from the start lol -
Midstate01What IU players are even in the nba? Evan Turner was nation player of the year after being a bit of a nobody.

AutomatikYou serious Clark?

If you think everything you said is the truth you should be a politician. 4 does not equal 6 and 4 does also not equal 1.FairwoodKing;1594028 wrote:All I did was tell the truth. If you're embarrassed by that, then it's your problem.
Also since you seem to think you are on Dayton's team and a part of the A-10, I am going to hold you 5% responsible if Dayton loses or if the A-10 doesn't get several teams in the sweet 16. -

Well,Midstate01;1594273 wrote:What IU players are even in the nba? Evan Turner was nation player of the year after being a bit of a nobody.
eric gordon
Dj white
cody zeller
victor oladipo
Jordan Crawford (though he transferred)
Only 2 of them are Crean recruits. But come on, don't say Evan turner was a nobody when you have the list of players Crean does. They were all pretty much nobodies. -
wildcats20Evan Turner was a top 50 player in the country as a recruit.
-
Midstate01I was literally just asking. I couldn't think of iu players under crean

They pick and choose to make sure the games are low risk, because the only thing worse than playing a team the committee may view as weak is playing it and losing.Mohican00;1593641 wrote:I don't get it.......Ohio State consistently plays in state schools each year (Cleveland State, Cincinnati, Wright State, even a competitive OU team this year) but because they right ones (heh) they are avoiding them?
They had OU on the schedule, but not until Groce and most of the Sweet 16 roster had left. I don't blame them at all though, as it's high risk, low reward -

Matta has not? LOL Put down the bottle! You know better than that.Laley23;1594227 wrote:I couldve coached those guys to the NBA, come on now.

Depending on where you look, Turner was a 3 / 4 star recruit. Top 100. Didn't have offers from any big,big time programs. Mostly Midwest/big ten teams. And anyone who watched the kid play for 3 yrs, certainly knows how much the developed. But lets not go overboard and give Crean or Matta too much credit for player development. Players deserve most of the credit as the have to put the work in. The coaches have to put them in the right position to be successful. That's the reality of it. And Matta has done that time and time again.wildcats20;1594304 wrote:Evan Turner was a top 50 player in the country as a recruit. -

But he was a top 50 recruit for ESPN. A 4 star recruit from Rivals and Scout. He wasn't a nobody in any way. -
Laley23
Who has he gotten to the nba who wasn't a projected 1-done player???centralbucksfan;1594652 wrote:Matta has not? LOL Put down the bottle! You know better than that.
evan turner. I have the facts, you have the bottle... -
Midstate01Well nobody at all expected mike Conley to be a one and done. Nobody. And he wouldn't have been had he not exploded in the tourney.
-
vball10setCrean is a circus act, and to compare him to Matta is ludicrous.
-
wildcats20Amadeo Della Valle is leaving school to go back to Europe to play pro ball.
