TiernanWTF Craft?!?
-
TiernanTerrible loss at home. Calling it now.
-
TiernanAnother Craft TO - never seen this bad a stretch out of him ever.
-
Fly4FunI turned this game on with 10 minutes to go, man has it been rough for OSU.
Everything has looked terrible. -
Terry_TateTerrible all around game by just about everyone.
-
vball10setOutplayed, outhustled, outcoached. Time to regroup and get the mojo back. Go bucks!!!
-
TiernanNot a Top Ten team at this time IMO. They got back into the MSU game more on the opponent letting them back in instead of really working to get in. Today was abysmal.

vball10setWe have ball handlers who can't shoot consistently and shooters who can't handle the ball consistently, and until at least one of these gets turned around, we're a sweet 16 team at best.

centralbucksfanIts not a terrible loss. Certainly not a good loss when you lose at home and blow a 9 pt lead. Main player that stands out that frustrate me...Ross with his lax handling of the ball. He had a stretch of two consecutive turnovers, unforced at crucial time in game. He had 5 turnovers overall. Craft was not good either with 6 turnovers.
And Scott is not giving OSU much at all on the offensive end of the floor. He is playing passive. Shooting is back to where it had been. I kept hearing how he was the best player in the off season, and I just don't see it. I am at the point where I would like to see Thompson starting over him right now.
Bottom line, TURNOVERS are killing this team the past two games, 21 vs MSU, 17 vs Iowa. And many of them are unforced TO.
Anyway, its certainly no time to panic. Most teams have had losses to date they were not supposed to have. This is just one. Long ways to go and Matta will get things going. -

Terry_TateScott was the only player that had a positive +/- yesterday, but he has to be more aggressive on offense. A couple times he had a decent shot around the rim and passed it out. Both him and Craft had some awful turnovers as well, and Lenzelle had multiple WTF moments as usual. Just was not a good day for anyone. Iowa is damn good so I'm not too worried but they need to get wins in the next 2 games on the road to not let this spiral out of control.

PrescottIowa is legit All of their losses have been to ranked teams and the Hawkeyes put themselves in position to win those games, but faltered at the end.All 3 losses were road games.
OSU's defense was horrid, especially the first 10 minutes of the game. Iowa shot lay-up after lay-up. Marble was a nightmare match-up all game long and Iowa's length was definitely an issue for OSU.
I would like to see Loving get more minutes. He is a capable scorer and a smart player. Scott's offensive inefficiency is a problem.
Amir Williams played pretty well. He was alert and active. The steal he made on the sideline inbounds play was the smartest(most aware) play I've seen him make.
The complexion of the game changed when OSU had a 9-10 point lead and a 3-on-1 break. I am not sure what happened, but the ball was lost and Marble ended up with a lay-up at the other end.Iowa followed with 3 straight 3's by 3 different players. -
se-alumIf this team isn't going to play defense, we're in for more losses like this.

I agree with this. I believe when OSU had the 9pt lead, Loving had a charge called against him and then Ross had two bad turnovers. I believe Iowa ripped off a quick 5pts to cut it to 4. I thought Williams played well too. Shame to waste that effort in a loss. -
vball10setWhy don't we press off of a made basket right from the get go? We know the strength of the Buckeyes is our defense, and we know when we press we create turnovers (see Notre Dame, MSU), so I'm confused as to why we don't do it early and often. Just wondering.

Matta has never been one to press for a full game. They often supply some token pressure here and there. Personally I believe its difficult to press a lot at the college level. Coaches are so good as are the players, that they figure it out. And if you break the press quickly, teams can attack and score. Most teams that do, are up tempo teams (UofL) who like to fast break. They are ok with giving up baskets here and there, and believe over the course of the game, their pressure will wear teams down. You also have to have the personel to do so. I am not sure OSU does. Ross and Williams are not going to be able to do it. And Craft puts in major minutes the way it is. Its really a philosophy and Matta typically just mixes the press in here and there or when its needed. The strength of OSU is their half court defense. That doesn't always translate into being a good full court defense.vball10set;1566776 wrote:Why don't we press off of a made basket right from the get go? Matta has never been a big presser because we had basketball teams that only had 6-7 man rotations that would have been dead if they did that for 40 minutes. And also who says it needs to be a press, just do a full court man to man or trap, but a lot of pressure needs to be kept oncentralbucksfan;1566975 wrote:Matta has never been one to press for a full game.
