This is shocking considering how MSU usually plays. They don't seem to hit the boards as well this year though.se-alum;1564597 wrote:OSU outrebounded MSU 42-28. 21 turnovers killed us. Not real worried about this team, their defense will carry them. -
Terry_TateWow, shocked they out rebounded them by 14. Did not see that coming at all.

I wonder what the margin was when MSU was winning big? Seems like when they went into stall ball, it turned into 1 and dones and easy shots for OSU. They lacked any emotion or aggression until OT when they took the air out of the ball. Credit to OSU for taking complete advantage.Terry_Tate;1564600 wrote:Wow, shocked they out rebounded them by 14. mhs95_06Trey shooting the difference: 4/18 vs. 11/19
That and the turnover differential trumped the rebounding and deuce shooting edge. -
AutomatikSucks we lost, but awesome game. Way to fight to come back. Craft gets that roll we win.
I'm glad we get another shot in our house. -

vball10setWhoever said you learn more about a team from a loss than a win must've had last night's game in mind. We learned (again) that a double digit deficit late in the game, even on the road, is not insurmountable. We learned this team never gives up, but we also learned that the slow starts are a concern. We learned that even though it appears a player is in for a tough night by how he plays in the first half, this doesn't mean he'll end up having one. Last but not least, now valuable was it to have a true freshman get that experience, in that atmosphere, and play as well as he did the second half. Even though looking back maybe Loving should've passed the ball in the waning seconds of OT, the fact that he wanted the ball and was willing to take that (albeit off balance) shot speaks volumes. The kid's going to be a stud-he just has that "it" factor.
Horrendous first half, great comeback in the second....GO BUCKS!!! -
Azubuike24Massive, massive props to OSU last night.
My mind has changed about them. If they play with that intensity and execution, on a neutral floor, I wouldn't want the responsibility of knocking them out.
Just for comparison-sake, take Kansas, Kentucky or Florida. More-talented but none of those 3 teams (I've probably watched them the most thus far) RIGHT NOW would be able to sustain what OSU did for the last 12 minutes of that game.
Forget running plays, executing the game plan, refining skills...they need to watch all of the little things that were done by OSU to make that comeback. Moving feet on defense. Hands in every passing lane. Blocking out in the lane. They even sustained it when MSU was hitting key shots.
Extremely impressed, and coming from me, that's saying something as I will usually find every reason to not be. -
centralbucksfanWell, I honestly didn't expect OSU to win this game. And I was highly disappointed in the last 2 min of the first half as well as most of the second half in their effort and execution. You cannot give a team, on the road, a lead like that and expect to come back and win. Rarely happens.
That being said, what an unbelievable comeback. Again, not into moral victories. But I saw some very good things. Mainly with Ross and Smith on the bench for the last 5 min of regulation and the entire OT, Loving and Thompson in the game, OSU made the comeback. Yes Loving took a couple bad shots down the stretch. But he is a freshman, and how can you fault him for wanting to step and take the pressure shots. He has a bright future at OSU. Just wish he would have swung the ball to Thompson on that last possession when he forced the shot. Thompson would have had a very good look to try and tie game.
I liked what I saw from Williams for OSU. Although Payne got his points, I thought Amir played him pretty tough. He also had 8pts, 11 rebounds and 3 blocks. If he can give OSU that on a semi consistant basis, that is huge. After a slow start, Thompson really stepped up and hit some huge shots, as well as snaring some unreal rebounds. Craft was Craft. His will to compete and win is unmatched. It doesn't show in the stat line, but what he does for this team is unreal.
Scott was inconsistant. I wish he would have taken that last show to the rack more aggressive. I thought he took a poor shot trying to spin the front of the rim. I feel if he would have taken it to the rim, used the backboard, he would have been fouled. But his defense down the stretch was huge.
Ross, huge dissappointment. 5pts, 2rb. I was afraid he would wilt in a physical game like this. But I did like what I saw from him on the bench. He wasn't sulking. He was supporting his team. Hopefully he learns from this.
All in all, it showed me and well as everyone that this team can compete with anyone. Great game to watch though -

Laley23So what does everyone think about Loving playing at the end?? IMO, in the long run good, but, despite the terrible game, I gotta think Ross was the better option once OT started.

I had no issue with it at all. Obviously, I think Matta was sending Ross a message. He was bad then started to force things. He was hurting OSU more than helping. MThus the benching. Matta just stuck with the group who was playing better and made the run to get them back in the game. i have no problem with that. I was MUCH more surprised to see Smith on the bench because of the energy and defense he brings.Laley23;1564663 wrote:So what does everyone think about Loving playing at the end?? It really wasn't hit upon, but at one point they did show Smith sitting on the floor at the end of the bench stretching out. I think his "benching" might have been due to injury.centralbucksfan;1564666 wrote:I had no issue with it at all. Obviously, I think Matta was sending Ross a message. I agree, and like I said earlier, this will pay huge dividends moving forward. That being said, I was also surprised that Smith, Jr wasn't in there at the end.centralbucksfan;1564666 wrote:I had no issue with it at all. Obviously, I think Matta was sending Ross a message. PrescottIf the message was," The players who give us the best chance to win the game will be on the floor", then I agree. I don't think the message was aimed at Ross. Smith was on the bench as well, but the group on the floor was getting things done, so Matta stuck with them.
I do think Ross should have been on the floor for the last offensive possession.
Loving is going to be a factor and his value will increase with every game. He has a stoic demeanor on the court and he is not afraid to play his game.He plays with confidence.
Amir Williams deserves huge props. Payne did most of his damage when Williams was on the bench. If only he had better hands.
Good to see Sam Thompson snap out of his offensive slump. He picked up the slack and brought a ton of energy.
In the end OSU got KAMINSKIED. -
Heretic
Lol, yeah. MUCH more so. I wasn't impressed with much of the game, but the way they battled back and could/should have wound up winning was very impressive.Fly4Fun;1564598 wrote:More so than the "quality loss" one of our Duke posters tried to say the loss at ND was.
Kind of mixed feelings. On one hand, he was part of the unit that got the Bucks back into the game and, while he wasn't great shooting, he did do a lot of "little things" right, so I agree with the sentiment of keeping him out there. On the other hand, he definitely seemed a bit over his head in the final stretch of overtime to where it almost felt like a "too much, too soon" scenario. But in the grand scheme of things, it's better for him to have that sort of moment in a regular season road game where it's more of a positive learning situation than it would be in the tournament.Laley23;1564663 wrote:So what does everyone think about Loving playing at the end?? Terry_TateAgree with what pretty much everyone is saying. Was great to see Loving want to try to be "the man" at the end of the game even though it obviously didn't work out. Even as a freshman to play on that big of a stage and play as well as he did overall was very positive. Was honestly surprised Matta never put Ross or Smith back into the game but think it was a "Hey, you guys got us here, you have momentum, keep it going" type of thing. Those 2 will still get their chances but they were horrendous last night so I had no problem with it. Shannon Scott must not be able to dunk the ball or something because if you're ever going to throw it down that was the time. Overall though the way they climbed back in it was a huge positive and hopefully will pay off in March or April.

se-alumIt still kills me that a left handed layup by Scott probably ends this game in regulation.
-
vball10set
My thoughts exactly. Why he tried to spin it with his right hand instead of either going at it left handed or slamming it home is anyone's guess...and I'm sure today it's his too.se-alum;1564742 wrote:It still kills me that a left handed layup by Scott probably ends this game in regulation. -

Correct me if I am wrong, but I have yet to see Scott dunk the basketball in a game situation. I doubt he is capable. And he also has trouble finishing at the basket in traffic. He shoulda just took it hard to the hoop and used the backboard or jump stop and take it up. Probably would have gotten fouled. Although time was running and he may have thought it was too late. But anyway you look at it, I too questioned how he chose to take that shot.vball10set;1564757 wrote:My thoughts exactly. I don't know, but you'd think he'd be able to. I'll be aware of it now when he gets a breakaway to see if he does/can.centralbucksfan;1564766 wrote:Correct me if I am wrong, but I have yet to see Scott dunk the basketball in a game situation. The 5 guys on the court earned the opportunity to finish it out.Laley23;1564663 wrote:So what does everyone think about Loving playing at the end?? IMO, in the long run good, but, despite the terrible game, I gotta think Ross was the better option once OT started. -
Laley23I'm sure he can dunk. He is a 6'2, athletic and black human.
Now, that doesn't mean he feels comfortable doing it in a game, but I be stunned if he couldn't dunk. -
Laley23
I don't disagree. And maybe it's cause I hate Tom Creans way of pretty much everything once the ball is thrown into the air, but I'd be furious if a guy like Stanford Robinson was making those mistakes (the quick 3 followed by the charge) because he shouldn't be in the game over someone like Will Sheehey.Mulva;1564777 wrote:The 5 guys on the court earned the opportunity to finish it out.
But like I said, I didn't hate the move and long term it definitely is a positive. I just wouldn't want to lose a game because you had a kid in over his head at the end, despite how well he had played or how poorly the alternative had played. I'd go down losing with the more mature player. -
centralbucksfan
Well, watching Ross play, that is the question that surrounds him at times..how mature is he on the floor? Yes, he has been there and done that a few times. But he also makes some bonehead decisions at times.Laley23;1564780 wrote: I'd go down losing with the more mature player.
