Gordon Gee... Legend.

Yeah, because they knew the backlash there would be (like there is now), and like everyone is saying, Gee is a terrific fundraiser/president, so they were going to give him every benefit of the doubt. But unfortunately, like I previously stated, this was the last straw.elbuckeye28;1452962 wrote:Well those "smarter minds" didn't push for him to retire 6 months ago when it happened.
Is it really? I mean, did anyone expect Gee to comment the bungling comments he did say? Of course not. So, again, at the rate Gee was going, how is it that far of a leap to think that Gee might have slipped up, again.elbuckeye28;1452962 wrote:Your speculation on the severity of what he may say next, with little evidence, is part of your overreaction by essentially creating a Straw man.
elbuckeye28;1452962 wrote:what are the other offensive comments has Gee said?- In regards to Notre Dame not joining the Big Ten...
- "The fathers are holy on Sunday, and they're holy hell on the rest of the week"
- "You just can't trust those damn Catholics..."
- In regards to the tattoo scandal and if he'd ever considered firing Jim Tressel...
- "No, are you kidding? Let me just be very clear: I'm just hopeful the coach doesn't dismiss me."
- In regards to Ohio State's football schedule...
- Ohio State's football schedule doesn't include teams on par with the "Little Sisters of the Poor."
- In regards to comparing the problem of coordinating the school's many divisions...
- Gee likened it to the "Polish army"
- When asked how to respond to SEC fans who say the Big Ten can't count because it now has 14 members...
- Gee's reply was, "You tell the SEC when they can learn to read and write, then they can figure out what we're doing"
Again... each comment in and of itself isn't "bad," but none of them are comments that a president of a large public university should be making. Now, combine them all together and you have one too many poor comments.
COMPLETELY agree. Again... people are acting like Gee was the *ONLY* man for the job. That Gee was the *ONLY* guy who can fundraise for Ohio State. Do you really think Les Wexner is going to let them drop the ball on this one?ohiobucks1;1453158 wrote:Anyone who doesn't think Les is going to mess this president search up, doesn't know Les when it comes to Ohio State decisions... He was the only man for the job though. Holbrook left the place f*cked and Gee COMPLETELY turned it aroundScarlet_Buckeye;1453832 wrote: Again... people are acting like Gee was the *ONLY* man for the job. It's short-sighted to say his only job was the fundraising. -
vball10setScarlet_Buckeye, pardon my ignorance of internet-speak, but what exactly does *THIS* mean?

Dr Winston O'BoogieWhether you like Gee or not, some new blood isn't a bad thing. He's been there seven years. It'll be good to get a fresh perspective in the role.

No it's not. But new blood would have been a bad thing had Gee not accomplished as much as he did in the time he was there. -

Dr. Booger is not an Ohio State guy and really doesn't have a clue as what GG did or did not do for the University. The little guy will be sorely missed and the next guy (probably another gal because the trustees will think that is the PC thing to do) will most lkely be an academia egg head that won't know shite from shinola when it comes to really representing the University to all walks of life.vball10set;1454074 wrote:Be careful what you wish for.....just sayin' -

I don't know what your definition of an "Ohio State guy" is. I am an alum and I care about the school. Gee is leaving regardless of what we think. My hope is the next president is a good selection. I agree with you in that a academic egg head type is not good. Even if you were a Gee supporter, there are other potential leaders who, though different from him, would be a great fit.Tiernan;1455469 wrote:Dr. Booger is not an Ohio State guy and really doesn't have a clue as what GG did or did not do for the University. ohiobucks1GG was brilliant when it came to fundraising. I hope the next person can follow suit.

Dr Winston O'BoogieIt's interesting that in Gee's leaving, I hear about his ability as a fundraiser more than any other trait. This best summarizes why I was never a fan. He, and those like him, have created an arms race between universities. Money raised for endowments are used as barometers to measure how schools compare against another. What's all this money for? Ohio State's endowment has grown expodentially since Gee arrived. Tuition has gone way up. Has the quality of education grown accordingly? I would say no. An Ohio State education, while strong, is comparable to what it was prior to Gee. His fundraising has brought fancier buildings, more sophisticated branding efforts, more (and much higher paid) administrators, and his face everywhere. He never translated this window dressing and self-promotion into a better undergraduate and graduate learning. The student lounges are fancier, but TA’s still teaches the class of 150+.

What you have just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever read. At no point in your rambling, incoherent post were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone here is now dumber for having read what you just wrote. I award you neg reps, and may God have mercy on your soul.Dr Winston O'Boogie;1456593 wrote:It's interesting that in light of Gee's leaving, the quality of his I hear mentioned more than any other is his ability to raise money. Gee's philosophy is best exemplified in the athletic department. Ohio State leades the charge of empire building in this area. OSU has a bazillion varsity sports - this is stated with pride. What no one ever seems to ask is, for what purpose? Is a huge athletic department truly bettering the educational mission? Do we benefit from having scholarship athletes on the pistol team? Or is it all misdirection so we won't examine carefully that we have sold out the football and basketball programs to the highest bidders with hired guns to coach?
But seriously this might be one of the dumbest things I've ever read on here it's up there with Non's "My football team wins more than your football team that that means I am more smart about football than you." -

That's not much a debate - "your post is idiotic". I think Gee and was as much about self promotion as anything. I don't see the corresponding benefit to the students from his fundraising and tuition hikes. I see some fancy new buildings and top notch sports. The next president needs to reclaim the mission of the school.Iliketurtles;1456767 wrote:What you have just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever read.
