There's this Marshall guy I've heard about who may make some sense, too.reclegend22;1594697 wrote:Word on the street is that T.Boone is going after Bill Self again. If not him, then Phil Jackson. -

As for Greg Marshall, I could see that. Oklahoma State has a solid tradition, great and historic venue, passionate fair weather fan support, and the resources to pay Marshall almost whatever he wants.
This guy is not gonna stay at Wichita forever. There are very few Mark Fews in this world, as Brad Stevens showed us. And if Stevens had stayed at Butler, he would have won a national title. -
SportsAndLadyGotcha lol didn't catch the sarcasm
Greg Marshall to OSU would be a nice grab for them. Doubt he goes there though. -
wildcats20Shaka to Marquette is apparently picking up steam.
-
wildcats20@jerrymeyer247: Hearing from multiple sources that Shaka Smart to Marquette is after all very likely to happen and happen soon.

Midstate01Smart is apparently stupid... Marquette??? When you could have had ucla??

Probably a good idea for Shaka. I think it might be hard for Shaka to keep up his current level of success at VCU -- mainly in terms of overall recruiting -- over the long term and it would be advantageous for him to move to a better basketball program in a higher profile conference. Like Tom Crean, this would likely be a layover on the coaching ladder.wildcats20;1596033 wrote:Shaka to Marquette is apparently picking up steam. -

The belief is that North Carolina is ultimately his dream destination. If true, then going to UCLA wouldn't make a lot of sense IMO. He may also not want to live on the West Coast and deal with the "glamour" culture of LA. UCLA is actually a pretty shitty program for having 11 national titles. The fans don't fill the arena, care about the Lakers and Clippers more and are as about as "fair weather" as it gets.
Marquette is a good basketball school with lots of tradition and plays in a better conference than the Atlantic 10 (regardless of what Dayton has done this year). It's a great stepping stone job. -
Midstate013mil to ucla makes sense..
-
SportsAndLadyApparently it's a done deal. 6 years

reclegend22It not working out for whatever reason and blowing his one shot at UNC doesn't, though. He's a Midwest guy. It might just have been the wrong fit for him and his family. Chapel Hill is a lot more like small town life in the Midwest than Tinsel Town.
Who knows. Marquette is a great basketball job, though. It was better in the Old Big East, but still great in the new one. -
-Society-That was a horrible call!
-
reclegend22Talk about a nightmare March for VCU fans.
-
reclegend22Nothing yet confirmed with Shaka Smart.
Andy Katz has reported that both Marquette and Wake Forest have reached out to the VCU coach about their openings. Smart was born and raised in the Midwest, in Wisconsin, so Marquette makes a ton of sense geographically and is also a great basketball school. The Big East is definitely not the product it once was, but it's still a step above the Atlantic 10.
Wake Forest is a sleeping giant in basketball. The Demon Deacons were the No. 1 team in the country just five years ago and can compete for national titles. This job obviously doesn't make as much sense if Smart wants the UNC job one day. But it'd be awesome for the ACC. -
Terry_TateChris Mack also mentioned as a candidate for Wake Forest.
-
reclegend22Xavier has produced some pretty good coaches over the years: Sean Miller, Thad Matta, Pete Gillen and Skip Prosser (who went on to great success at Wake Forest).
Chris Mack would be a really good hire for the Demon Deacons, if guys like Shaka Smart or Archie Miller prove unattainable. Miller would be a dynamite hire (Dayton just extended his contract through like 2020 today). -
reclegend22Indiana's Noah Vonleh will declare for the NBA Draft. Also, Jeremy Hollowell, Austin Etherington and Jonny Marlin are all expected to transfer.
Rough day in Bloomington. Could Tom Crean be on his way out? -

Think you mean Xavier there, not Wake Forest. Was really confused for a minute, lol.reclegend22;1596088 wrote:Wake Forest has produced some pretty good coaches over the years: Sean Miller, Thad Matta, Pete Gillen and Skip Prosser (who went on to great success at Wake Forest).

Azubuike24Eron Harris of West Virginia is a big transfer who will be available. I can't help but think Butler will be a candidate given he's from Indy and has said he wants to play near home.

reclegend22Shaka Smart, Greg Marshall, Chris Mack, Archie Miller, Ben Howland and, after the Lakers part ways at the end of the NBA season, Mike D'Antoni, are all possible coaching candidates for any school looking to make a splash.
Marquette is reportedly moving furiously to close in on Smart, but no deal as of yet. I think Ben Howland to Boston College might be a good hire, although I'd hate to watch his team play once or twice a year. Wake Forest is apparently interested in Greg Marshall as well as Chris Mack, as Terry Tate stated yesterday. Marshall would be great for the ACC. -
wildcats20@AdamFinkelstein: Shaka Smart spoke to VCU commits & their coaches yesterday & assured them he isn't going anywhere
-
Manhattan BuckeyeShaka Smart missed his window. Seems like a great guy and if he loves VCU and Richmond (even though the school is halfway in the hood) good for him, but with Coach Bennett at UVA and Virginia Tech's new hire in Buzz Williams VCU won't be able to recruit anyone in-state unless they are marginally academic qualifiers - and even if they could would have to recruit against other ACC schools. Their facilities are adequate, not great. The campus is improving, but it is still depressing to be around. Don't see how he can keep up VCU's success - they were grossly overseeded as a 5 this year based on past results.

wildcats20@SportsCenter: Dayton extends contract of coach Archie Miller through '18-19. Flyers are in Sweet 16 for 1st time in 30 years. » http://t.co/n3BSMFT6KJ
