Tinsel Town just isn't a great location for a college basketball program. The Lakers are the one and only show in town. And then you have the Clippers. But it's still really sad that a historical power like UCLA can't fill up a 13,000 seat arena for a showdown against No. 1 Arizona. That's just fucking awful.

The home-court advantage is almost non-existent. In the end, it's that reason I decided not to lay money down on the Bruins.

Walton called Digger Phelps the devil and said he'd like to put a ring of honor "around his neck". lol
  • reclegend22
And the fans finally come alive in Pauley with the game tied with 1 minute left.

The Bruins charged all the way back to tie the game, after trailing by as many as 14. It's been pretty entertaining.

But college sports out west are pretty apathetic in general. I read somewhere in the largest fan bases that the only 2 top 25 teams the Pac-12 had were USC #17, and UCLA #25 while the B1G has 7

Isnt fan base just calculated by Alumni? Big Ten has far and away the biggest colleges, so that would make sense.

That might not be right, but how else do you calculate it??

No it was by persistent followers or something I believe

Some great games this weekend. Ones I'll be watching.

    Florida at Arkansas
    North Carolina at Syracuse
    Kansas State at Kansas
    Wichita State at Missouri State

Cuse is going to beat Carolina by 40.

After last night, there's no doubt whom the team to beat is. The Wildcats of Arizona. They made some mental errors to let the Bruins back in the game last night, and even let them take the lead, but Arizona thoroughly dominated that game on the road for about 35 minutes, against a considerably talented UCLA squad. Arizona plays as a team and they are going to be extremely difficult to beat.

lol, the way this season has been for UNC and considering Cuse is unbeaten and ranked #2, Carolina has this one locked up.

Personally, I think Wisconsin may be the best team in the country right now. Arizona is really good, no question. But this Wisconsin team is very, very good as well.

I can't really argue that. The Badgers have been impressive, and they have done it playing both slow and fast. They're a nightmare to plan for. 'Zona, Syracuse and Wisconsin are the most legitimate cases to make a Final Four right now. Bo Ryan has one of the better front-court duos nationally in Dekker and Kaminsky, and a slew of really solid guards.

To the dismay of many here, Bo Ryan could win a national championship. And I would personally love to see it. The guy is a phenomenal coach, just phenomenal.

Obviously with the way the have played against Sparty, UK and L'Ville, yes. But not the way they are playing now. It is a very, very ugly brand of basketball. Something needs to click or they will be playing in the CBE.

Yep. They simply cannot shoot the basketball.

They'll be lucky to score 50 points today against the Syracuse zone, especially if Paige continues to struggle after starting the season on fire.

Above is one of the reasons UCLA is NOT one of the top 5, or even 10-15 programs in the nation. Great, they dominated for a 20-year span with Wooden. Outside of that, NOTHING.

Kansas, Kentucky and North Carolina? Over half a century of success with multiple generations of leadership and coaching.
  • Azubuike24
Iowa State down 13 in the 2nd half to Oklahoma.
  • Azubuike24
Vanderbilt hasn't drawn over 4500 for any of their 7 home games this year. They are expecting a more than capacity crowd today against UK. It's everyone's Super Bowl. It's crazy.
  • reclegend22
UMass' uninspired play of the past couple of weeks persists today, as the Minutemen trail St. Bonaventure at half by seven at home. This after escaping St. Joe's at home earlier in the week. Chaz Williams really seems to play with the light switch on or off, depending on day. Didn't think he was that type of player, but after several viewings this season, he is.

It's frustrating, too, because UMass has Final Four talent.

Is that as in, Vanderbilt is expecting a big home crowd or that Kentucky is basically going to fill the arena with their fans, so it'll be more 50-50?
  • Azubuike24
Probably some of both. Still, it seems a lot of Vandy fans will buy season tickets and not go to any game except the UK game. Or, they buy season tickets, sell the UK tickets to UK fans and go to the rest.

Rec, Bonnies are a decent team. UMass can't lose to them at home, but it's not like they are a cupcake.

Not to incense anyone else here, but Kentucky and Duke are really the only two programs with the level of polarization that can draw that type of attention nationally. As a Blue Devil fan, it really is crazy to go to a Duke game in a neutral or opposing arena. The energy -- and hate -- is indescribable. I'm sure it's no different for UK a fan.

No, I know they're not a cupcake. I was simply speaking to the overall play of the Minutemen of late. They are playing like a one-and-done NCAA Tournament team at the moment.
  • Azubuike24
It's even more magnified because of how piss poor the support is for some of the other SEC programs.

South Carolina, Georgia, Auburn, etc. These schools are lucky to even get 3,000 fans at any other game yet when UK comes to town, their teams seem to play well-above their capability and their fans are bat shit crazy. Then, the next home game, the place is dead and the let down is on.

For instance, pay attention to the crowd and performance at Vandy today versus Wednesday night when they host Missouri.
  • Azubuike24
Since their loss to FSU (they choked that game), it's been lackluster. Needing OT to beat a 15-loss Providence team.
  • Azubuike24
Oklahoma 79, Iowa State 77. 2 minutes left. Cyclones looking to remain one of 5 unbeatens (Syracuse, Arizona, Wisconsin, Wichita State).
