2013 NBA Early Entrant/Transfer Thread

The problem with Dieng is he's got an awkward shot and a slow release. He might make it because of his defense, but I don't see him ever being more than a 8-10 PPG scorer.

    Marcus Camby
  • Azubuike24
That's who I thought of, but didn't post it because in college, Camby was a much better scorer...

For a stretch, Camby was one of the best shot-blockers and rebounders in the NBA. While he's good at both, I don't ever see Dieng reaching that level.
  • Laley23
Dieng wont be a star by any means, imo. But just watch some NBA games and you can see how he would easily find a roster spot for 10 years on athleticism and rebounding/defense alone. I mean, Josh McRoberts was starting for the freaking Pacers in the playoffs 2 years ago!!!!!

    Russ Smith
    Chane Behanan
    Gorgui Dieng
    Phil Pressey
    Ricardo Ledo
    Victor Oladipo
    Cody Zeller

    More to come

I'd be surprised if he got drafted.

    Michael Carter Williams

Ben McLemore, I forgot to add him from yesterday.

I think MCW is a bust waiting to happen. Every time I watched Syracuse play, he never impressed me.

I agree. I am completely underwhelmed by the talent as a whole this year in CBB. Even Burke had some games where he looked really bad.

I want to know which drugs Tony Snell is on, and then I want to start selling them.

    Same with Pressey.

I'm not sure what to think about the silence of UNC's trio thus far. I think it means that they -- at least McAdoo -- are much closer to leaving than coming back, opposite of what Roy Williams believes (or wants them to believe). They may all very well come back, but the longer they wait, the harder the decision obviously has been for each of them.

Here's to them all leaving and Wiggins combusting spontaneously.
  • Azubuike24
If I'm a guy on the fence, why not wait?

I'd rather wait until the very last moment to know the entire field of talent I'm competing against.

IMO, the guys who declared in March, it wasn't even a decision...they were gone regardless of other guys who declared or projected stock.

My thoughts on guys like Snell and Pressey, they know they aren't going to go any higher in next years draft, and they want no part of staying in school an extra year, so they take a crack at the draft, then pack up and head to Europe, where they'll make a pretty good living playin' ball.
  • Azubuike24
    Hard to blame Snell.

The best team he'll ever play on lost in the first round to Harvard.
His coach left for another job.

Lets also realize, a lot of Juniors, barring any academic setbacks, can probably graduate with a few credit hours, or are already graduating. These guys don't take summers off like normal students, so that's basically 3 extra semesters of credits you can get if you just take even a few classes over the summer.

If I'm going to graduate or just a few credits from a degree, why spend another entire year there unless that's your true aspiration?

Snell made a good move, not sure why anyone is saying he didnt.

You're setting yourself up for disappointment. :D

At least, I think you are.

He won't get drafted, but he wouldn't have got drafted next year, either, so I guess you're right. He'll be playing ball in Uzbekistan with Quincy Douby.

As long as you don't get Wiggins -- there's apparently some five-year-old hoops guru on Jayhawk.com saying you won't, so I am taking at least some comfort in that -- I won't mind if all of UNC's guys come back. Duke will be loaded next year and it would be great for the rivalry if both teams were in top form.

If you get Wiggins, though, I'll also embrace it. Parker vs. Wiggins would be a show.

NBA Draft Net has him going 2nd round, 39th overall, which is what I would anticipate.

But you hit on my main point. He cant improve his stock at all. Team will be worse and the coach will be ne. No way do you want to spend a single year in a situation like that after the season your team just had. Cut your losses and move on with your life, either in the NBA or in Europe...whats the reason for staying in college. With a bad year team wise, all I see him doing is falling even further in the draft.

Good points. I was too concentrated on Snell's draft stock and not really taking into consideration any of those extenuating circumstances -- his coach leaving, team not being as good, etc. -- which, when taken as a whole, do rationalize his jump.

He wasn't even listed at the time he announced. I suspect if a few more high-profile guys go pro, Snell will be at high risk for dropping off the board. I have nothing against the kid, though, and hope he makes it.

PJ Hairston is coming back to Chapel Hill.

    Thank you Jesus.

The fact that he announced on his own today had me a little worried, but apparently his family was tired of being hounded and his mother went ahead and spilled the beans. McAdoo's grandmother passed away this week, so he was holding off until next week. Sounds like there will be a formal announcement from the university, most likely on Monday, where all three will announce their intentions. Should be good news for Carolina fans.
