3 Final Fours in 35 years for Boeheim, before this year. Really?

Dean Smith coached for 36 years, probably had the most-talented team a dozen times, yet won 2 titles. 11 Final Four trips, 2 titles?
This. Don't ever bring this up to a Carolina fan in a face-to-face situation, especially if you are a Duke or UK fan. I did this to a teacher when I was in school who was a Tar Heel fanatic and I was almost the victim of a pencil stabbing. The anger in his eyes was frightening. I'm dead serious.

When looking back, Dean Smith's tournament success -- outside of the consecutive Sweet 16 streak -- is really underwhelming when held up against guys like K, Rupp, Knight, Wooden, etc. when considering how long Smith was at Carolina. Almost 40 years coaching at an NBA factory and only two nattys?

To be fair it has always been a dark spot on Dean's career - for a large part of his tenure he was known as the coach of a great ACC program that had an excellent Sweet 16 streak. The 1982 championship was a huge monkey off his back.

I guess my argument would be that UNC is without question a top tier college hoops program and Syracuse is 2nd tier. Syracuse has not been as talented year in and year out as UNC has been over the decades.

I hate that I really have no interest in any of the remaining teams. Sadly, I chose the old school "evil dead" over these games. Probably flip to check scores and if they are competitive...may watch the endings

How in the fuck does Terry Wymer get a tournament game at all, let alone a Final Four? He sucks ass.

Louisville's defense is ridiculously good the second you hesitate. These guards are in over their heads.

How did the great Coack K go 14-24 against such a mediocre coach?

The truth of the matter is that in a one-and-done scenario, the best team doesn't always win. Dean lost some close games and had some key injuries to guys like Phil Ford and Kenny Smith that probably cost him titles. Maybe he should've won more than he did, but to act like a guy with two national titles is somehow and underachiever seems a little ridiculous, especially when he owned your Hall of Fame coach's ass.

There's the pissed off post from a Carolina fan that you were wanting. Lol

I just chose to ignore it.

To be fair again, the 1982 championship was huge, and not in a good way (other than that they won) for UNC....prior to that time they were the Buffalo Bills of the NCAA. And it took another decade (and a Chris Webber gaffe) to win again, and then another decade.

It's amazing that Siva still hasn't stopped chucking threes.

I feel like halftime has lasted forever.

You sound like Jaylen Rose. Are you aware that Carolina was leading 73-71 when Webber clearly walked (wasn't called) and then proceeded to call the TO he didn't have? Even had Webber not called that TO, they were still behind. That title is a testament to Dean Smith's coaching ability anyway. The Fab Five was pretty damn talented, but he and his team beat them anyway.

Only UCLA and Kentucky have more titles than Carolina. It's not like all these other great programs are winning titles all the time and Carolina isn't. How am I even having this conversation?

Ignore what? Lol. I simply am posting the facts. Most Carolina fans I know consider Dean to be without question the GOAT coach, and his numbers simply do not measure up.

Dean was a great coach. He won two national titles and invented landmark basketball strategies such as pointing at players for assists, the tired signal and playing keep away. But, he is no longer in the discussion for greatest of all time. He's not even the GOAT of his own conference.

Witchita st is tough. I think they are way better than those butler teams that made the finals

Siva is the key to Louisville and for the first time in the tourney he is playing like shit. Thus so is lville.

This witchita st team is just so well rounded. They can beat you on the outside and inside. Butler was more of a perimeter team. Witchita st has the players to match up to any style of play. That's what makes them so tough

I hate K, but I'm not arguing that Dean achieved more than him. Four titles is more than two. I just think that calling Dean Smith's career underwhelming, or criticizing him for winning "only" two titles, is a little much.

I'm not sure if Wichita State is better than the 2010 Butler team that featured lottery pick Gordon Hayward and future NBA draft pick Shelvin Mack. That Butler team was really, really good and came literally within a second of winning the national title.

While Wichita State is an excellent team, I just don't think Louisville is as awesome as everybody thinks. They are an average offensive team outside of Russ Smith. Duke made Peyton Siva look like Isiah Thomas, but he's in reality not that good.

But he wasn't taking awful shots eithee.

I'm surprised but still think that Louisville wins by double digits.

I can see where you are coming from. Underwhelming probably wasn't the right word. It is greatly surprising to me, though, that it was only the two.

That Butler roster also had Matt Howard, who for reasons unknown, I absolutely hated. He plays ball in France now, apparently.

Siva never was or is a scorer. He an excellent on ball defender and is crazy quick and helps set up his teammates. He takes some dumb shots sometimes but other than that he's everything you want from your pg. and just because butler had 2 more talented players doesn't make then the better team. Witchita st has their scorers, their rebounders and their 3 pt shooter. They match up with everyone bc of there size and how balanced they are inside and out.

Siva is not what I would want at all from my PG. He's foul prone and an awful decision maker.
