So that situation I described could never happen to anyone ever? Just me being delusional?se-alum;1367622 wrote:It's fathomable....to ND fans that want it to be.

"They started out as just friends," Brian Te'o said. "Every once in a while, she would travel to Hawaii, and that happened to be the time Manti was home, so he would meet with her there. But within the last year, they became a couple. And we came to the realization that she could be our daughter-in-law. Sadly, it won't happen now."
Quoting his father. A direct quote. But of course, they never met... -

Did he make a comment about meeting her after a game a few years back?sherm03;1367630 wrote:So that situation I described could never happen to anyone ever? Just me being delusional?

What about his family lying for him as well? Fucked upsherm03;1367618 wrote:And I proposed...maybe he lied about being in her presence because people were asking questions and giving him shit about having a cyber girlfriend...so he lied that he has actually met her to save face with friends, teammates, etc.
Still not sure how that isn't fathomable... -

They were suppose to meet her on senior day this year is what I read -
KR1245He said they have met
His father says they have met
Now he's claiming that he was duped?
This doesnt add up -

About as fathomable as never wanting to meet the dying love of your life.sherm03;1367630 wrote:So that situation I described could never happen to anyone ever? Just me being delusional?

Pick6Can anyone confirm or not if Te'o was still talking about his "girlfriend" after the 26th?

His family was supposed to meet her then. The South Bend Tribune wrote specifically about Manti and her meeting after the Stanford game, and in Hawaii, per Brian Te'o.Crimson streak;1367639 wrote:They were suppose to meet her on senior day this year is what I read -
Crimson streakThe thing I feel like he was completely naive was the fact about his grandmother dying. Why would he make his fake gf die 6 hours later. I would think that would be the last thing on his mind. Who knows its a fucked up situation I really don't know what to believe

MulvaI'm trying to come up with any scenario that would make this situation one of the most important stories in history.

Yes...which would fall into the "lying about it just being an online relationship to keep from getting shit" part that I proposed.KR1245;1367634 wrote:Did he make a comment about meeting her after a game a few years back?
Maybe he lied to his family and said he was meeting her. Again...it's possible.Pick6;1367638 wrote:What about his family lying for him as well? Fucked up
Swarbrick said he tried to arrange meetings and she wouldn't show.se-alum;1367641 wrote:About as fathomable as never wanting to meet the dying love of your life.
Look, I'm not trying to say that he had no part in this. And I will admit that I want him to just be a gullible douche in this whole situation for the reasons that Ewok mentioned above (every "good guy" in sports turns out to be a fraud and I don't want Many I to be one of those guys). But I have said that he was involved in perpetuating the story...then he's a complete piece of shit.
I'm just trying to say that there is the possibility that he's just a chump...but people want to act like there is no way that could be the case. -

Why would a school try to arrange for a girl nobody's met, to come to campus. That seems very unbelievable. -

His father said that Manti met her in Hawaii. Too far of a stretch to think that Manti said, "I'm going to meet my girlfriend, dad" and then left the house?Pick6;1367657 wrote:Come on man..His father said he met her in Hawaii. -

Te'o actually being duped, catfish'd whatever? Or him bullshitting everyone? -

Sorry for the vague use of "he." "He" in that sentence refers to Te'o. Nobody is implying that the University tried to arrange any meetings.Midstate01;1367659 wrote:Why would a school try to arrange for a girl nobody's met, to come to campus. That seems very unbelievable. -

So you continue to love this person that won't meet you? If your girlfriend blows you off, probably not really your girlfriend, and Te'o is smart enough to know that.
