    So I haven't been paying attention the last few days. Has any new news surfaced around this whole saga, other than OC members acting like girls in a cat fight?

    Is the most likely story that Te'o found out it was fake early on then embellished it all for more publicity? Or has anything else surfaced that supports the claim that maybe he was in on it? I'm leaning towards the first, but wasn't sure of anything new.

    It's actually looking like Te'o really didn't know it wasn't a prank until December and wasn't fully convinced until the Deadspin report. He lied to his parents about actually meeting her and lied about the seriousness of their relationship(he said it didn't get serious until April but he had told ESPN or SI that their official date was October 15, 2011 I believe). So basically Te'o wasn't behind the hoax and was embarrassed it was online only and that they had never met so he embellished on their relationship to make it more believable if I have all of the details right.

    I can believe that narrative to an extent. Yes, he was embellishing out of embarrassment but I bet he was also playing up the gf/most amazing girl aspect for the publicity that followed with it.

    The best case scenario for Manti is that he is just a straight f------- idiot and weirdo. And it looks like that's what is the case here. Good for him, I think.

    Certainly a strange case. If the above is in fact true, I do feel bad for him to an extent. In that context, I don't believe he really wanted the story to go as far as it did. It was probably more of a case of feeling trapped and not knowing how to stop the "lie" from spreading.

    The more information comes out (e.g. Deadspin's twitter timeline from day), the more inconsistencies arise. It appears that while he probably wasn't behind the hoax itself, the embellishment went far beyond being "embarrassed" to be in an online relationship. Since the Schapp interview has been found to be filled with inconsistencies, only makes his story more questionable.

    This story will die like I assumed in the beginning. So many things that dont make sense that are being let go, by the main stream anyways. What did we expect, though. It's not like Te'o was ever going to come out and admit it if he was behind it. Probably paid the Tuisasapo's or however you spell it off to take the downfall.

    I don't know about that. But unless someone can come up with proof that Te'o was behind it, it will be ND fans believing what Te'o said and ND haters believing that Te'o did it and paid people off so that he'd come out unharmed by the story.

    I think the truth lies somewhere in between. But as you said, the story will die and we will probably never know the actual truth.
