OSU @ Duke - Big Ten ACC Challenge

  • stlouiedipalma
While a second consecutive win against Duke would have been nice, I'm pleased with what I saw from the Buckeyes tonight. Don't worry about who got how many touches, though. By the time January comes they'll be ready for the toughest conference in the country. And from what I've seen from Indiana and Michigan, it should be one hell of a B1G race this season.

    What we learned.

    1.Plumlee is a beast
    2. Cook plays like a thug
    3. Suilamon is very good
    4. Seth Curry never wants to see Lenzelle Smith again.
    5. Kelly stepped up the 2nd half
    6. Craft needs more work on his shot
    7. Scott needs to understand his role
    8. Ross and Williams need more time
    9. Thomas has to stay out of foul trouble.
10 Thompson needs to join Craft at shooting practice
    11. Lenzelle played a nice game.

Karl Hess sucks as a ref!!!

    Good training tape for Matta.

I'd like to thank Musburger and Bilas for being so far up duke's ass I had to turn them off .

Hard to blame Craft because he does so much defensively, but he was terrible tonight on the offensive end. It wasn't missing shots, I get that, but he was making some terrible decisions, something you hardly ever see from him.

With that being said, oh well. This game was a good measuring stick for this team. They can make some real noise this year, just gotta play a little smarter.

I'm going to go ahead and go back to page three and read from there. Continue mingling.

Yea curry is def hoping he doesn't see osu again. He's played awful both times.

Smith jr needs to get back to the dribble drive. He was launching 3's tonight, and when he's hot, he's hot, but he wasn't tonight. He's got a nice dribble drive, needs to use it more.
Ross will play more and more as long as he plays within the offense.

Overall though, they'll learn a ton from this game and it'll help them later in the season.

Can't wait to see osu probably drop 8 places or so. Never fails.

Is sleeper that guy in the OSU crowd that dresses up like a mentally retarded cowboy? He's the worst (read: most insufferable) fan on this site, by a long shot. My goodness.

Great effort by Ohio State tonight. As I said, the Buckeyes are a very dangerous team with Craft and Thomas at the helm and by the end of the year, they'll be a top five team. Even though Craft didn't necessarily have a good second half, his relentless defense was one of the key reasons the Buckeyes were dominating Duke in Cameron. He almost single handedly changes the complexion of any game he is in by simply locking down his man. I've really never seen anything like it. With that said, Quinn Cook got him right back in the second half and played exceptionally for Duke. Great game by Quinn tonight. And I find his somewhat brash demeanor invigorating. It's never a bad thing to let a little arrogance creep in. Michael Jordan is arguably the most arrogant person who has ever lived. I am not comparing Cook to Michael Jordan.

Rasheed Sulaimon ... I have said it before and I will keep saying it. He is simply one of the best five or six freshmen in the country. In terms of the eye test, he just has that "it factor." The game comes very easily for him. He kept Duke in the game tonight. Terrific performance.

OSU played tough and hung tough. Even played well enough to get up to a lead where I thought they could hold on. But goodness, they have NO outside shooting outside of Thomas. 3/15??? That is pretty bad considering how wide open so many of them are. If they can find consistent outside shooting, they can be a real threat. Until then, I cant see them winning anything this year (B1G, B1G Tourney or NCAA).

Also, I will keep this here rather than the Duke thread since Mason Plumlee had such a monster game against Ohio State, but he is quickly becoming one of the front-runners for NPOTY, right along with a handful of select guys. Plumlee netted 21 points and corralled 17 rebounds against the Buckeyes. He's averaging just under 20, 11 and 2 (blks) on the season, with massive games in all three wins over three of the nation's top four teams in Kentucky, Louisville and Ohio State.

    Mason Plumlee is creature.

But you could also look at it and say osu shot 34% and lost by 6 AT duke who's probably the best team in the country based on what they've done early on.
They won't shoot 34% too often, maybe not again the rest of the year.

But still I understand what you're saying as well.

Haven't you seen Red Rider's posts? At least you can understand Sleeper, although they're both ridiculous and should just be ignored.

It's nice reading all the "expert" analysis on here, and according to some, maybe they should just bag the season and start working on 2013. Anyway, didn;t expect the W, but was still disappointed we didn't get it. IMO, Craft is still too inconsistent on offense (but still a bitch on D), Thomas gets too easily frustrated when he doesn't get the ball right away and looks impatient when he does, Ravenel is mediocre at best, Thompson has shown the most improvement and will be a force moving forward, and Smith, Jr. is, IMO, the most consistent player on the floor--right now. Scott's showing some promise, but on two consecutive possessions shot the ball (unsuccessfully) without even looking to pass, and Williams is a project, but will have to develop a mean streak, somehow, some way. Last but not least, Ross will be a stud, but he needs to play more...a lot more.

Couldn't agree more with every single statement! I think Ross could be a star in the making. Why he had very few minutes in 2nd half is a mystery.

Coach K is obviously one of the greatest ever but, is it just me or does he whine about every single foul called against his team?!

He always has, but with so many cameras at these games now now, you see every whine...ALL of them.

Yeah. But I think he only posts during Duke vs. Ohio State games, so we'll probably never see him again. Like sleeper, though, I think -- no, I am sure -- Red Rider just does it to get a rise out of people. He knows what he's doing.

On the other hand, we have to listen to sleeper on every thread everywhere all over the entire site every day that we log on. It'd be nice if he weren't so over the top, but whatever. That's what he is.

I got news for you and everyone else here with that opinion. Every coach "whines." It's what they do. They are trying to gain an advantage for their team. I for one am glad Duke's coach advocates for his players like that.

It was a good win for Duke considering how tired they were.

True, every coach does whine but Coach K seems to do it more often than most. And, yes, I do understand that he's only sticking up for his players...I'm not saying it's a dumb thing to do, I personally just get tired of seeing it EVERY time I see them play. Like I said, he's one of the best ever but that doesn't mean he has to be MY favorite coach.

As Jay Williams said, that's not a reason, just an excuse. It was a good win. Period.

No, it doesn't. You are entitled to that opinion. But it is likely that you just think Coach K whines more than everyone else because of the fact that he is on TV more than the Lakers. Dean Smith whined more than almost anyone, ever. And back when UNC used to be on television more than anyone else, just like K and Duke are the most hated insitution in all of college basketball today, Anybody But Carolina ruled the day. It's just a product of how much Duke plays in your living room.
