From following on Yahoo, the impression I got for this year was that Robert Morris hit everything early while OU was cold. Got down 29-12. Fought back, but never got over the hump. Dude for RM hit 8-8 three-pointers or something crazy-hot like that.

Then they got blown out by Memphis. Came back with a win over Oakland, but that was a weird game, too. Led by 10 at the half. Got dominated and fell behind in the second half, but then utterly destroyed them over the final 7-8 minutes to win. That's the sort of thing that makes me think they just need to get on the same page under the new coach. Very up-and-down performance, even through games.

what rec was referring to...
Robert Morris is an enigma. For whatever reason, something flukey always seems to happen to prevent the Bobcats from being able to win.

In 2009-10, an offensive foul is called on a made jumper that wipes the game typing bucket out. RMU wins by 2.
In 2010-11, a lane violation is called with 3 seconds left on a game tying free throw. RMU wins by 3 after 2 free throws on the other end.
In 2011-12, Ohio forces 31 turnovers only to have less defensive rebounds than RMU had offensive boards. RMU wins by 3.
This year, a RMU player shoots 10 of 10 from the field including 8 of 8 from behind the 3 point line. RMU as a team shoots 12 of 18 from behind the line and wins by 8 after the Bobcats reduced a 19 point lead down to 3.

Can't say anything good about the Memphis game. The team appeared to quit playing defense after the first 13 minutes of the game.
It wouldn't let me purchase. So I'm guessing yes

Wow, I didn't realize the demand for tix was that great (except for the big games, of course).

And Xavier made the Elite 8 with him as an assistant in 04, too.

If you look at the coaching staff of that team, Matta, Sean Miller, John Groce, and Alan Major. Pretty stacked.

This year, those 4 coaches combined are 32-1.

Thad Matta has produced one really good (possibly great one day) and two already great coaches from his tree (John Groce and Sean Miller and Brad Stevens, respectively). It's impressive considering how young the Ohio State coach is. He's what, 47? Gotta give him props.
• Laley23
Didnt Stevens come to Butler the year after Matta? I thought Lickliter hired him?

Yeah his "tree" is really, really impressive.

Soon as he wins that first championship, he'll be in that top 5 range that we seem to have huge arguments about every year on here lol

As of now, I got him just sneaking in the top 10.

I thought that, too, but they showed a picture of Stevens and Groce together on the Butler staff during the Maui Invitational, and Matta was the head coach. So, gotta give Matta another branch.

No he was there as a volunteer assistant.

Well many people buy a few and sell them on stubhub for a ton making a solid profit. But to avoid buying those marked up tix you have to get online right at 10 and click send. That's how I usually get my MSU BBall tickets and Tigers ones, especially nowadays, good Tigers tickets go on March 1st for every game by Noon

Gotcha. So officially, not an assistant on staff, but clearly was lol

Right..he left his, I think it was, Pharmaceutical marketing job to just take an unpaid basically internship with Butler as a Volunteer coach. Than Matta left after his 1st year, and probably thought he was fucked..but Lickliter retained him.

That being said, I don't think you can include him in the Matta coaching tree lol one year as a volunteer assistant, no way.

I believe he was an accountant at Eli Lilly, correct? Could be wrong.

Yeah, but the history books probably will, especially if Matta ever wins a title or two and starts being thrown into that "conversation."

Technically they wont, because they "officially" didnt coach together. But the announcers and such will make sure we know it.

For the record, I agree, thats more Lickliters tree than Mattas.

That's true. He did have a great humble brag following the game...
"I got nervous. I had to do what I knew would go in, so I did a 360. You see I almost broke my back afterward, so maybe next time I should just lay it up or something."
