Duke is 17-0 with Ryan Kelly, including 4-0 against the AP Top 5, 6-0 against the RPI Top 40, and has wins against Louisville, Ohio State, Minnesota, VCU, Temple and Miami (all NCAA teams).

My point is that you have no clue what you are talking about.

Lets be real, if not for Minnesota's win over IU last week, they would be tumbling and tumbling fast. They are more experienced their they have played this year.

And if Kentucky just didn't beat Florida they wouldn't be in the tourny?

It's easy to discredit a team if you take away their big wins...

This has what to do with Kentucky? UK is average. Without Noel, even more average. It should be completely changed next year as they assemble the most talented team ever. All the pressure will be back on them.

That was a huge win over IU, and my point was, it really deflected the attention away from what has been a pathetic stretch the 2nd half of the season. They have STILL lose 10 of 15 games...
  • Azubuike24
Oh, and I'm wondering how that is possible because Tubby Smith is an amazing motivator and X's and O's coach who struggles to recruit, but when he has veteran talent, he always gets the most out of them.

Nothing could be further from the truth this year...he's got more experience than anyone in the conference and still a pretty high talent level. They are limping into March though...

I'm just making a comparison... it's what done when looking at "bubble" teams in college basketball.

Ya, Minnesota hasn't had some rough streaks. But they also have some quality wins, a good SoS, a great RPI, and they play in an extremely tough conference.

I was merely pointing out that you eliminating a teams recent great win can completely change how a team is viewed no matter the team.

I did the exact same thing with Kentucky that you did with Minnesota.

We're on the same page. And because of the B1G, Minnesota is in no danger of making the dance. Still, they have been a major, major disappointment yet you will NEVER hear about it. Maybe I'm a bit salty too, because Tubby has been avoiding due criticism for a decade now.

Maybe they will rise up in the NCAA's. I don't see it though. Offensively, they are a complete train wreck. I'm not sure how Minny basketball fans can tolerate it.

I figured there was probably some animosity towards Tubby, but I didn't want to bring it up as it was unnecessary. But ya, I don't think anyone is giving Tubby a pass, even our resident Minnesota fan (gorocks) even is calling for Tubby's head no matter the result this season (well assuming they don't make a deep run in the tourny I'm sure).

I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you, because I have no idea how good UK will be next year, but I think we should wait before throwing phrases like "most talented team ever." I mean, it's your opinion, so as I said, I can't really argue it I guess. But more talented than Vegas in '91? Kentucky in '96 or '12? Duke in '99 or '01? North Carolina in '05? Perhaps we should wait and see if the talent is as good as advertised. That's all I am saying.

If this year's Kentucky team has taught us anything, it's that the one-and-done method isn't always a surefire thing. Talent doesn't always pan out. It might, though, too. But it's certainly not a certainty.

Strictly in-terms of HS accolades. Not actually on the floor.

Yes, I agree, I don't see a team ever topping what UK did in 96, going 38-2, also beating the 2 teams who beat them, winning games by an average of 23 PPG that year and having 9 guys who played in the NBA.

Last year's team was really good, and still they fall short in-comparison to the 1996 team in the eyes of most UK fans.

I'll preface it by saying I'm making gaudy assumptions that some of the 4 (Poythress, Goodwin, Noel, Cauley-Stein) return and the Cats get either Randle or Wiggins. If none of those happen, my words can be forgotten.

We'll see. It wouldn't surprise me if the B1G disappointed a bit and Minnesota actually comes from nowhere and wins a few games. I haven't been able to get a good read on a Tubby team since 2005...

If Illinois goes on to lose this game and loses the first game in the conference tournament......could they slip out of the tournament?

Finishing the season with a 10-11 record certainly wouldn't do them any favors, but Illinois also has the 10th strongest strength of schedule in the country with wins over Gonzaga, Butler, Ohio State and Indiana. So they have that going for them, but, as you kind of point out, most of that success came months ago. In the what-have-you-done-for-me-lately world we live in, they could potentially be on the outing looking in if they got beaten badly enough in that first Big Ten Tournament game.

With the rather lackluster tournament field we have this year in terms of bubbles, I think the Illini's 5-4 record against the RPI Top 25 will be enough.

My point is, Duke only wins because they get every call. Your coach is a fraud and is still bitching about the ass stuffing football school Miami gave to Duke. How can Duke be the best team in the country when they aren't even the best team in their own conference? LOL
