College Basketball Random Chatter 2012-2013 Season

GOONx19Sloppy sloppy win. But it's a long season. Go Cats.
-
cats gone wildI was surprised to see how good Maryland played. Len is tough, and I dont think it will be just one game where he looks that good. UK played a solid first half, (mostly bench players) but the 2nd half was awful. No way should they get out-rebounded like that. I dont know how much longer Harrow will be starting. Wiltjer impressed me tonight along with Polson.

MulvaAlabama survives 30 from Nate Wolters and beats South Dakota St by 3.
-
ptown_trojans_1There was some positive talk in College Park about this Maryland team.
Len was rough last year, but with another year, they could make some noise in the ACC.
I was impressed by UK down the stretch. Suddenly in crunch time, they hit a switch, and remembered how to execute.
Still, many holes that need filled. -
reclegend22Will all of these cancellations and suspended games finally spell the end for the Carrier Classic? If not, I bet it will greatly reduce the number of teams that are willing to agree to take part in the event. Especially when actually playing the game is entirely dependent on the weather.
It sucks for the teams involved, but I'm glad the Carrier Classic games went so terribly for those very reasons. I was pumped for Florida-Georgetown and as a college basketball fan I feel robbed. Can't imagine what the people at the game feel like. -

Couldn't a Friday night into Saturday work? I know there is college football to compete with, but that's just the way it is. Meanwhile, nobody is watching college basketball on Tuesday at 8 a.m. GMAFB.
Ratings. They wont win anything on the weekend right now, especially with those teams. Only mid majors will play those hours, so to get any kind of ratings at all it has to be the only thing on. Weekends, not happening.
So pissed that the BTN isnt showing Indiana vs S. Dakota St on their actual channel. Its being streamed on Monday. Probably one of the better games to show pre-conference (in terms of a top tier team vs a good mid major).Mulva;1317030 wrote:Alabama survives 30 from Nate Wolters and beats South Dakota St by 3.
Just play the things ON the base in a hanger or something.reclegend22;1317032 wrote:Will all of these cancellations and suspended games finally spell the end for the Carrier Classic? Azubuike24Bucknell beats Purdue at Mackey Arena 70-65.
St. Peter's wins at Rutgers 56-52.
Two decent teams in Purdue and Rutgers losing home openers.
Boring ball in full swing at Pauley Pavilion. Not sure why anyone goes to play for Ben Howland...UCLA/Indiana State tied at 23, nearing the half...zzzzz. -
Laley23Purdue is a good name. But I have them finishing 8th in the B1G this year. Dont like their team at all, really.
-
Azubuike24Don't get me wrong. Both Purdue and Rutgers are borderline NCAA bubble teams. That's why these losses could be big. I can envision both being around .500 in league and with double digit losses...

Unfortunately, the NCAA or whoever schedules this ridiculousness will probably not only try to play another game on a boat, but try to do it on one that is actually sailing or in the middle of battle or some s----. The gimmicks are tiring and I am tired of it. -

Haha play it on top of the Empire State building. That or an elementary school sized court so they pull up from half court for 3. Maybe use a womens ball and play 1 foot shorter hoops that are slightly rounderreclegend22;1317061 wrote:Ding. Ding. Ding. Ding. Ding. Ding.

I like the Empire State building idea. It's probably already in the works lol.Classyposter58;1317064 wrote:Haha play it on top of the Empire State building. The publicity stunts need to stop. -
reclegend22Watching the UCLA game, and whoa, John Wooden's grandson is an idiot. That apple fell so far from the tree that it will never be found.

GOONx19^ Haha, that's awesome.

wildcats20So I have obviously missed something.
Watching Carolina/FAU, how is it part of the Maui Invitational? -
Mulva
A lot of tournaments are doing that now. They have the "regional games" or whatever they call them with smaller schools involved, but the field for the finals is already set regardless of the outcome there. So even if FAU pulled an upset they would still be going home.wildcats20;1317977 wrote:So I have obviously missed something.

Gotcha. -
swamisezLike the Preseason NIT where there are regional site games, Duke played two games at home before going to NYC.
I have yet to see this, but if the home team loses, do they not advance. Say had Duke lost to Elon last year would Elon have gone to the Garden instead? -

Usually it's predetermined who goes on. I think when osu was in one of hose tourneys they said even if osu lost, they were going on. -
Pick6
yep. same happened to Akron last year after they beat Miss St. We had to stay at home while MSU went to the garden.Midstate01;1318322 wrote:Usually it's predetermined who goes on. I think when osu was in one of hose tourneys they said even if osu lost, they were going on. -
SportsAndLadySo a buddy of mine is trying to post on here under a brand new name and it's giving him an error saying he doesn't have access to post on these boards. Anyone know what that would be about?
