College Basketball Random Chatter 2012-2013 Season

That video above is hilarious. The two Villanova players look like they are literally trying to pickpocket Byrd. Almost as bad as the phantom travel call on Allen Ray that screwed Villanova out of a trip to the Elite Eight while playing against Carolina in 2005. Had that not been called, Nova likely plays Illinois for the national championship and the career of either Bruce Weber or Jay Wright is viewed drastically different.

Who's that African f***er for Washington? Dude has been mauling people all game and tackled Shannon Scott right there. Also DeShaun Thomas is a pretty good scorer

OK St beating NC State by 10 at the half. Cant help but think about the damn "clerical error" that left two of Akron's top 6 suspended, in which we lost to Ok St in OT.

Brady Heslip picking up right where he left off against Colorado in the NCAA Tournament, with eight threes tonight out of 12 against the Johnnies. Baylor leads it, 73-70 with seven minutes left. Heslip is a straight trigger man.

Pierre Jackson of Baylor is the quickest guard in the country. Reminds me of Speedy Claxton or Devin Harris. He's like a hockey puck.

And N.C. State, the favorite in the ACC, is getting pummeled by OK State. They are not the best team in the ACC. Not yet. Might be by the end of the year, but even with the majority of the cast back from last year, they've got to earn on the court and live up to expectations. That can often be the hardest part: living up to the hype. It's easier to win when it's not expected and you are the underdog.

C.J. Leslie fouled out with 17 minutes left in the game...

Again, parity folks. There isn't a team who will escape with under 5 losses...

eh you may be right, but I dont know if Id use this game as an example. OK St has two really good players in Nash and Smart (McDonalds All American) and is picked to finish 2nd or 3rd in Big 12.

    Eh, I don't know about 2nd or 3rd.

Kansas, Baylor, Kansas State, Texas (before Kabongo) all had better odds. Iowa State, West Virginia and Oklahoma were right there with Oklahoma State. I never saw State picked higher than 4th anywhere.

With that said, your post kind of just adds to my point. It's going to be a crazy year...

Indiana will only lose 4 :-)

Such a bonehead tonight. Didn't start 2nd half due to 3 fouls, then came in and picked up a 4th AND a T on the same play to DQ himself.

Who were they? Watched part of that game and they mentioned it but I couldn't figure out who it was.

Demetrius Treadwell (best rebounder) and Nick Harney (a guy I think has NBA potential). Harney probably has the best overall skill set on the team.

There is a lot of parity this year, to be sure, but N.C. State was never the sixth best team in the country. Again, they have a lot of talent and could get there, but at this stage, they are not in the top ten. Remember, the Wolfpack was a major bubble team that crawled into the tournament a season ago. And that's with Calvin Leslie, Lorenzo Brown, Richard Howell and Scott Wood. Had State not gotten in or got beat in the first round last season, rather than reach the Sweet 16, they might not even be ranked in the Top 20 right now. I think way too much importance was put on that two-game winning streak against San Diego State and Georgetown.

Don't get me wrong, I think N.C. State will be very good by the end of the year. But in order to really prove itself as a legitimate top ten team and as the "best" in the ACC, it will need to win against UNC in Chapel Hill or Duke in Durham. I'm just not sold yet.

Colorado beat Murray State to take the Charleston Classic. Impressive for the Buffs, who will surely crack the top 20 this week. Belmont won at Stanford by 7. The Bruins are another team who may make some noise yet again.

Some quality games during Thanksgiving week with all of the preseason tournaments and a few other normally scheduled games.

UConn looking to hold off Quinniapiac in double overtime. The Huskies lead it, 87 to 83 with 20 seconds left. Game is on CBS Sports. A crazy weekend of basketball comes to a close.

Maryland to the Big Ten apparently close to a done deal, according to the Washington Post.

Gary Williams has spoken out in support of the move, going on some sort of tirade about how the ACC has never "cared" about Maryland and that Duke and North Carolina are all that matter -- maybe that's because, in hoops, Duke, North Carolina and North Carolina State have combined for 11 national titles -- but I couldn't really get a feel for what he was saying in the midst of all the tears.

The ACC losing a charter member who's been in the conference for 59 years is kind of sad, but, as the Weakest Link lady would say, good-bye.

Rotnei Clarke hits a running 30-footer in Maui to propel Butler past Marquette at the buzzer. Awesome shot. Clarke is unguardable.

    Indiana looks like poop.

Followed up by an ass raping of Mississippi State by Carolina.

Did knight just say he will shoot a Georgia player if they shoot another 3????

I muted him within 30 seconds of turning the game on. Such a terrible announcer.

First off, that is a very vivid image you have painted. You are a painter of words, sir. And secondly, haha, yeah, the first two games in Maui definitely demonstrated the two most extreme ways you can lose. Half-court buzzer beater or "ass raping."

Good to see Carolina making some perimeter shots. If Bullock, McDonald, and Hairston shoot like that, or anything remotely close to that, all season, the Heels could be very tough. McAdoo is gonna be outstanding inside, and the combination of James/Hubert/Johnson inside should be enough to get some garbage buckets, rebound, and play some decent defense. I think the Heels could definitely take some lumps against the better teams they play, but by the end of the season, they could be really good.
