College Basketball Random Chatter 2012-2013 Season

The major problem with the Rebels is that they are at their best when running, and that's just not the way NCAA Tournament games are won. As a result, UNLV will probably lose early next week despite being as talented, if not more talented, than many Top Ten teams in the country. They are stacked. But Dave Rice just isn't the guy to lead them.

I feel that New Mexico is a more oiled machine because of coaching.

Nope, I just flew back to CBus about midnight last night. Didn't attend any of the games, but talked to a few UNM fans who said it wasn't that tough to get tickets, at least up until today.

I saw a TON of UNM fans too, and I'd imagine being a final (and home game basically), UNLV will bring a lot of their season ticket holders. I'd bet today was a tough ticket.

I went over to the MGM Grand...it's sad, because the Pac 12 Tournament really struggles no matter the venue. Maybe having Shabazz in the final might help them today, but I have my doubts. U of A seemed to travel pretty well, but got knocked off.

Watching UNM/UNLV. VCU/SLU tomorrow. It's insane to think these teams aren't right there with even the top tier teams from the "power conferences." I'm not sure if it's a combo of being so much parity, or just a great year for the A-10 and MWC + Gonzaga, but they are all legit.

What's overlooked is with those 5 teams I mentioned, you have experienced coaches and experienced players who have all made NCAA Tournament runs before.

I'm with you it feels like an elite eight game right now. Both these teams have the talent to go to the final 4

New Mexico should be a 1 seed. I don't think they have any chance, but they'd be on my top line if I was in charge.

Regular season and tournament champs in the #1 RPI conference. #2 RPI, #2 SOS, #3 OOC SOS, 10-3 against the top 50, 19 top 100 wins (most in the country), no losses against sub-100 teams.

What's the flaw in that resume?

New Mexico's top 6 scorers all can return next year as well, so they aren't a 1 year show, unless Snell and/or Williams goes to the NBA. They are a good team.

Dave Rice is only in his second year of coaching and got beat in his only NCAA tourney game last season. I love UNLV's team and the talent there, but they are just not going to get very far. I just don't see them being able to put together a string of wins built on strong defense and execution in the half-court. They play best when playing the playground game and it's not gonna work.

Despite UNLV having the best talent of any mid-major this year (IMO), I think they are going home early again.

UNLV needs to run through Bennett in the half court and they would be much better.

For those that have watched New Mexico more than I have this season, is the Lobo offense generally "The Tony Snell Show" or did he just get hot in the conference tournament? I know he's a great player, but I wonder if he eventually cools off if that will bring New Mexico back down to earth... New Mexico is obviously a very good team -- they've been good all season long so it's not just because of Snell's recent shooting explosion -- but they've definitely elevated to another level behind Snell in the last few games.

The thing that really sucks is that the Big East Championship has always been the best of the prime time Saturday games of Championship Week. Its absence is going to leave an indelible hole.

Also that baseline Big East logo is fukking with me right now. Looks like one of those triangle stands you see at football games in the back of the endzone

gotta blame College Football on all this. And this usually is the best tourney, I remember a few years ago when the league had like 11 possible NCAA teams
  • Ironman92
Siva just took 4 steps on that play and they called the foul on Syracuse
  • Ironman92
Cuse not getting the calls at all versus Louisville.
  • reclegend22
Louisville on a 27 to 3 run. The game's over IMO, and there is eight minutes left. Jimmy B has lost his team for this game.
  • karen lotz
27-3 run in under 7 minutes. crazy.
  • Ironman92
Holy fuck???? Awful awful call. Two hands on the offensive player....offensive player clears and elbow grazes chin.....flagrant on Louisville.

    Awful
  • karen lotz
I'm not a fan of Hancock at all.
  • Ironman92
    Free throws

    Cuse 4-10
    Louisville 19-25
  • Ironman92
    Ton of time left
  • Midstate01
