College Basketball Random Chatter 2012-2013 Season

  • Mulva
Ole Miss beats Mizzou. They're probably safe. As long as they don't choke against Vandy tomorrow.

This bubble is crazy. Every bubble team sans Maryland (arguably not even on the bubble before the last 2 wins), Alabama (barely on the bubble), Southern Miss (firmly on the bubble) and Ole Miss (firmly on the bubble) lost.

    Providence, lost before the quarters
    Stanford, lost before the quarters
Arizona State, lost in the quarters
Boise State, lost in the quarters
    Charlotte, lost in the quarters
    LaSalle, lost in the quarters
    Virginia, lost in the quarters
    Colorado, lost in the quarters
    Iowa, lost in the quarters
    California, lost in the quarters
    Tennessee, lost in the quarters
    Kentucky, lost in the quarters

I mean really, unless you're going to move a whole new crop of teams in (which you could), nothing has changed a ton since Monday outside of a few teams moving WAY up.

It's been hectic the last few days being in Vegas, not having full computer access and losing my ass on different bets.

I know we say this every year, but I think a few teams have a TON to play for tomorrow.

3 teams, pretty much off the bubble before the conference tournaments, Alabama, Massachusetts, Southern Miss and Maryland can bypass about 8-12 teams ahead of them coming into the week and steal bids.

Its kind of a good year to be mediocre. Meaning you can be just decent and still have a chance to get in because there just arent many quality teams.
  • Azubuike24
Yeah, or just a shit load of mediocre teams.

Outside of the Big Ten (IU, OSU, MSU), ACC (DUKE, MIA), Big East (UL, GT, SYR), Big XII (KU, KSU), Florida and Gonzaga, you could literally take the next 40-50 teams and could argue all are within just a few points of being dead even. It's not surprising those 12 teams are likely all your 1-3 seeds when Sunday hits. 4-12 seeds, it's absolutely unpredictable.

IMO, we've also seen enough upsets in the low, low-major leagues, that there aren't going to be any 1/16, 2/15 or 3/14 upsets. I'm calling it now. The 15's and 16's, this year, are as bad as I can remember. We're going to have possibly 7 or 8 teams with 14 or more losses as automatic bids. The only chance I could see is it someone like South Dakota State or Iona gets a 14 and pulls out a win, but even that is a long shot.

The 1's, 2's and 3's will roll, after that, upset specials all over. Let the Vegas odds show the way too. I'm sure you will end up with some 4/13, 5/12 and 6/11 lines at pick'em or 1-point. Basically, they could flip the teams and have nothing change except the name on the jersey.

What a choke by Memphis. Going to OT.
  • reclegend22
Vegas and New Mexico is gonna be insane in the Thomas & Mack Center tonight. Yesterday was the first time that I have watched a full game of New Mexico's, and I think Az was on to something when he threw the Lobos in the hat for a one seed. They won't get that, but they are going to be a major player in the Dance. Tony Snell was ridiculous last night. The kid could not miss and the dude looks like Flava Flave. All that was missing was the clock. He's gonna do big things next week, I have a feeling.

Still, it will be tough taking down the Rebels in the Shark Tank.

Super upset at CBS right now. I like that they committed to the USM/Memphis game until the finish unlike last week with the MVC Final, but their choice of online feed ticked me off. I put on Indiana/Wisconsin on the CBS website just to have the game up and going while this other game finishes out, and they turn the online feed back over to the conclusion of USM/Memphis.
  • Mulva
Bama is up on Florida early in the 2nd half.

    Make it 2OT.

Viewers in Indiana and Wisconsin are probably about to kill someone, but they're not going to pre-empt a championship for a semifinal, regardless of conference.
  • Fly4Fun
That was a fun block to watch in the Southern Miss/Memphis game.
  • Mulva
Memphis wins. Southern Miss is done. 0 notable wins.

If Memphis is a 5 or 6....I have one of my upsets....I don't care who they play

CBS would without a doubt do this. With Creighton and Wichita State a two-point game with less than two minutes left to play last Sunday, CBS abruptly without warning switched to the Indiana-Michigan regular-season finale and never even mentioned the other game again except for on the ticker at the bottom of the screen.

    Lol.

I think they can make the sweet sixteen.

This Memphis team has actually righted the ship and played like a top 15 team since December.

Josh Pastner is still their coach and has proven nothing...and C-USA stinks this year outside of USM and a few very young and talented teams.

This is going to reflect in the seeding as I think the absolute highest Memphis gets is a 6, possibly a 7. The 2nd and 3rd teams in the A-10 and MWC will get comparable or better seeds (UNLV, Butler, VCU, CSU).
  • reclegend22
Butler getting run off the floor in Brooklyn. Saint Louis plays UMass or VCU for the A10 title tomorrow. Do not sleep on the Minutemen. Chaz Williams is as good as there is in the A10.

I'm going to make a prediction and say that the A10 will have more teams in the second round than any other conference. Temple, Saint Louis, Butler, VCU and LaSalle could all win first and second round games. And who knows if UMass gets in, that might be six tourney teams from the conference. Incredible.
  • Azubuike24
    VCU blasted UMass earlier.

VCU/St. Louis (if VCU takes care of biz)
    UNLV/New Mexico
    Memphis/Southern Miss
    Gonzaga/St. Mary's
    Creighton/Wichita State

Have to admit, the high-level mid-majors have delivered with some very quality titles games in 2013.
  • Mulva
Selection committee president says there are still 13 teams on the at-large board being considered for anywhere from 2-6 spots.
  • reclegend22
UMass hot early behind Chaz Williams. They lead VCU 16-8. Not sure if they can keep up the intensity against the Ram pressure all game, though.

In what way was the Gonzaga-Saint Mary's game quality? Gonzaga was the only quality team in the WCC this year. Saint Mary's beat Creighton at home and that's about it. They were unwhelming IMO. Santa Clara had three 2,000 points scorers and yet they were below average.
  • Mulva
    VCU beats UMass.

I pretty much see 9 teams for the last 5 spots at this point: St. Mary's, Boise State, LaSalle, Ole Miss, MTSU, Tennessee, Virginia, Maryland, Kentucky.
  • reclegend22
UMass gave it a great run today, but VCU is just so tough to outlast.

Anthony Bennett is the best freshman in the country. Beast. Baby LJ.

If UNLV plays to its potential over the next few weeks, they can win a national championship. They won't do that, but they could. They are loaded.

While St. Mary's isn't very good, they did only have 6 losses, 3 to Gonzaga. I mean would you have rather seen Gonzaga vs a 5 or 6 seed for the title? I mean I guess it doesn't matter a ton, because the Zags were head and shoulders above of everyone else.

What I meant though, is there weren't upsets. Now whether the game was a classic or not, well that's another story.

Az, have you gone to any of the conference tourney games in Vegas this weekend? How difficult would it have been to get tickets for the UNLV-NM game?
