10/13: #7 Notre Dame def. #17 Stanford, 20-13 (OT)

  • sjmvsfscs08
Notre Dame is #7 in both polls, Stanford is #17 in both polls.

Notre Dame leads the series 17-9, but Stanford has won three straight.

    2009: 38-45
    2010: 14-37
    2011: 14-28

Notre Dame's defense is pretty much tailored to play against teams like Stanford. I consider the Cardinal to be basically a better Michigan State. Stanford, like others, will have difficulty running the football and their ability to pass and be balanced will decide the game.

I see Notre Dame spreading Stanford out like they did Michigan State (and like Arizona did, scoring 48 points last week). Golson looked very sharp against Miami, but they do have a terrible defense. I would really like to see a bomb or two in Brown's direction. Miami is too athletic for that sneaky stuff, but Stanford isn't.

Stanford's CB left the game last week and did not return. I'm not sure if he is supposed to play this week or not.

I see this being somewhere around 26-13 Notre Dame.

Basically if Notre Dame beats Stanford they will finish 10-2 at worst (95% chance) and get a BCS bowl.

Looking ahead to the remaining games in pursuit of a BCS berth:

    10/13: vs Stanford (4-1)
    10/20: vs BYU (4-2)
    10/27: at Oklahoma (3-1)
    11/3: vs Pittsburgh (2-3)
    11/10: at Boston College (1-4)
    11/17: vs Wake Forest (3-3)
    11/24: at Southern Cal (4-1)

They gotta go into Norman 7-0.

Am definitely happy to see Stanford coming in after a win as opposed to a two-game losing streak. I am concerned as Nunes seemed to come of age yesterday and probably has a ton of confidence but as you said....this is the type of offense that ND's D should be able to handle.

College Gameday will be in town. Should be an electric atmosphere. It will be a test for ND.

Couldn't remember the last time. It's been awhile.

Miami may have hung in a little longer if they would not have dropped 2 easy td passes early (first drive), still ND is playing pretty good football and at home I think they beat Stanford 28-21.

Also a crazy stat is notre dame hasn't allowed a td in the last 3 games. And have allowed no rushing td's. and only 2 td's in the redone out of 13 attempts.

    Irish gets the W, but in a close one....ND 24, Stanford 21

That's impressive against Michigan State, Michigan and Miami.

This was one that I saw as a legitimate shot as a loss at the beginning of the year. After seeing Arizona score in bunches, I think ND has a strong shot in this one.

I think it'll be close, but I would say that ND wins this one by about 10.

20-10 Irish. The defense's no TD streak comes to an end. But I'm going to say that the no rushing TDs streak continues.

I still can't believe we have yet to be trailing not even a second crazy

ND rolls in this one. 34-17

Mike and Mike will broadcast from ND Friday morning, Saturday Gameday from 9-12, NBC special from 2:30-3:30 and then the game. Lot of airtime for ND this weekend.

Can you imagine would be going on if the Irish were relevant? Wow...

    haha

Forgot to mention that the NBC special was done by NFL Films and they were with the team from the Michigan game through the Miami game. Should be pretty cool. ESPN flew Samantha Steele to South Bend yesterday to film 15 minutes of the team basically playing "beer" pong. They've done Trick Shot Monday for the last three years and put it on youtube. ESPN had it on their top ten a couple of weeks ago.

That first loss of the season is always the deepest cut of all.

This is getting a little ridiculous...

@BobWienekeNDI: NBC pregame and halftime show live from ND Stadium. Doug Flutie, Hines Ward and Liam McHugh reporting. First time show on the road.

    It's glorious.

Well it's been a long time since ND has been relevant so the anticipation is killing everyone. Better hope ND wins ;)

The Reds choked. The Cardinals are about to advance.

Please don't let me down tomorrow, Irish!!!

Damn dude....how long you gonna stand back there?

QB must have forgot he was standing in the end zone.

    derp.

Can someone explain to me why ND passes in that position?
The previous play was nearly a sack, and it was a 3rd and 16. Run the ball up the middle and punt. It was only 3-0.
What a fail of a coaching move.

Maybe but the QB had zero pocket presence, it was collapsing all around him and his feet were still. Seemed like his eyes were down field for almost three seconds.

This ND offense is absolutely atrocious. And it looks like Stanford is starting to wear down the defense. Can't really blame the D for that, they've been on the field just about all day long and still playing really well.

ND needs to run the fucking football. If you're going to throw it, get it to Eifert. They need to put a drive together in the absolute worst way right here.
