Conference Tournament Discussion Thread

HereticDePaul showing why they're the worst-seeded team in the Big East by shooting 25% in the first half as they trail 46-33 to UConn. Only thing keeping them remotely in the game are free throws. They're 9-9, UConn's 5-11.
-
SportsAndLadyI know UCONN's underachieved, and play absolutely ZERO defense...but you're telling me youd wanna play them in the first weekend? No.Thanks.

Maybe I should call the front desk and pretend to be a terrorist bomber like Jerry on Seinfeld so I can catch the 2:00 game. Talking to George Steinbrenner: "Yeah, this is the terrorist bomber..." Lol one of my favorite episodes.
Only reason I'm home watching right now is because I'm sick. Now Thursday at noon I'll have a "doctor's appointment" and will leave work a few hours early. -

Agreed. They are one of the most talented teams in the country. They seem to play uninspired and lazy but if they picked up the intensity they are a very scary team. It's all an effort problem with uconn -

One of the more dangerous teams in the tourney, if they get there.SportsAndLady;1106993 wrote:I know UCONN's underachieved, and play absolutely ZERO defense...but you're telling me youd wanna play them in the first weekend? No.Thanks. -

You've gotta do what you gotta do. When in middle school every year my mom sent a note with me on the first day of the NCAA Tournament that said I would be leaving early that day to get my teeth cleaned at the dentist's (of course, she also did this each year on the day of the "evil" Halloween party :rolleyes.killer_ewok;1107026 wrote:Only reason I'm home watching right now is because I'm sick. Next Thursday I will be staying home from work with an "injury" even if I have to lop something off. I am not missing Greg Gumble. -
Azubuike24I haven't worked that week in 6 years. I haven't attended class on that day in the 10 years prior. I'm 28. We have some kick ass HD flat-screen TV's in the office break room as well. Doesn't matter. I'm not watching Madness with a bunch of work cronies who don't know jackshit, fill out a bracket and are experts for 2 weeks a year.
I'm either at my house, in-front of my 60-inch flat screen, or out somewhere with a front-row seat watching with other "real" basketball fans.
We need an OC viewing party... -

reclegend22I completely agree with you, though, AZ. I have a friend who's a die-hard Miami Dolphins fan who watches nothing but Miami Dolphins and then all-of-a-sudden come March he's Al McGuire picking upset specials and discussing team "tendencies." It's bullshit and I can't take it.
I would never want to watch the NCAAs at work. I bet if I were to ask the lady sitting directly to my left right now to name me one college basketball team she would say the Chicago Bulls. It's absurd how sealed off from the outside world some people are. -
killer_ewokYeah, I take off those same two days every year and did that in college too. Me and some of my buddies would go to a BW3's to watch the NCAA tourney on multiple big screens. Did that for years. Then I followed my boy rebel ins' lead and got DirecTV (one of the best decisions I ever made) and bought Mega March Madness.
Now they're all on TV for free so I invite some friends over and we watch on 2 TV's (a 50-inch plasma and a dinky 19" LCD HDTV). One of the best times of the year without question. Brackets everywhere, booze, snacks. Good times. -
SportsAndLadyI do like how they went to all games on TV. I could care less if TruTV is showing the game, I just wanna see them!!
-
reclegend22I always liked the flurry of games that were closely staggered by CBS in the past, which every couple of hours on the first two days of the tournament produced a rapid, crystal-like high of upsets and buzzer-beating finishes in an almost dizzying manner (never have done meth, but can't imagine it being any better than that). Nothing beats being able to see any game you want, at any time, though, with the new four-channel format. It's been a welcomed change.
-
SportsAndLadyYeah I guess I did miss the "interruptions" by Greg Gumbel, where he was so excited to say "we've got a great finish in St Louis, lets get you out there!!" and then right back to the game you were watching.
But now we can just flip over on our own so its not a big deal lol -
reclegend22
Exactly. My ultimate favorite was always, "Let's head out to Boise." But, yeah, it's much better to control your own game-watching. Nothing was worse than wanting to watch Gonzaga sling down another giant and instead be stuck in Greensboro watching Troy Murphy shoot three-pointers for a terrible Notre Dame team lol.SportsAndLady;1107258 wrote:Yeah I guess I did miss the "interruptions" by Greg Gumbel, where he was so excited to say "we've got a great finish in St Louis, lets get you out there!!" and then right back to the game you were watching.

MulvaI just got a job a couple of weeks ago. Can't take time off for a few months. Very frustrating.
I'll probably just spend noon-5 Thursday and Friday next week watching the games in the break room, hoping that nobody realizes I'm not actually working. -
SportsAndLadySo 4.5 seconds left, North Texas is down 4 and gets fouled on a 3...makes first 2 free throws, then the coach has him intentionally miss to try and get the rebound put back.
They don't get it, foul WKU and they of course hit both free throws to end the game.
How stupid can you be? -
Azubuike24WKU goes comes from 6-15 and firing their coach to an NCAA bid.
Is there any doubt we see Kentucky vs Western Kentucky in Louisville for round 1? I think it's almost the most guaranteed match-up. For that reason, WKU will avoid the play-in game. -
MulvaThere are 2 play-ins for the 16 seeds though. No way a 15-18 team avoids both of them.
-
Azubuike24We'll see. They have a history of not always putting the worst 2 teams in the play-in. Just a prediction...I know how it works.

MulvaPrinceton beats Penn. No 1-game conference tournament for the Ivy League. Harvard is in.
Weber State moves on to the Big Sky finals. The country might still get to see Damian Lillard on a national stage. -
SportsAndLadyAnyone following this Matt Hayes dude on twitter? lol he's goin off, and a lot of national media guys are loving it
Congrats WKU. I'm sure MTSU is just jacked about winning that regular season Sun Belt championship -- which now means all of what? Zilch.
Please stop telling me a weekend of basketball and a committee in a room is a great way to choose postseason playoff. It's utterly comical.
This is your future, college football. Better get used to it.
I've got no problem with those who bash BCS. Just don't tell me this garbage of a meaningless regular season is better.
Nope. I'm saying stop telling me CBK "knows how to do it." RT@ScottStras: Your saying the Harris poll is better? -

Funniest thing is Harvard's players aren't available to media tonight due to fact they are studying for mid-terms. Nice way to celebrate.

SportsAndLadyLol Brett McMurphy is one of my favorite guys to follow
Brett McMurphy ‏ @McMurphyCBS
Forget it, he's rolling RT @Mengus22: @Matt_HayesSN you're arguing against the auto-bid, not a playoff.
-
reclegend22Glad to see Harvard and Tommy Amaker get into the Dance, especially after losing out on their ticket to the ball in such a brutal fashion a year ago. At the buzzer against Princeton. The Tigers definitely proved they deserved that bid, however, in their first round game against Kentucky.
