Programs in Need of a Coach
-
karen lotz@KGWSports: KGW's Michael Berk reports Chip Kelly working to finalize a deal that would make him head coach of the Tampa Bay Bucs.
Waiting on confirmation from onwardstate and Rob Lowe... -
j_crazyIf Kelly leaves then I start questioning how much trouble UO is in. Seems fishy to leave when there begins to be rumblings of major infractions.
-
j_crazyAnd lay off onward state. I heard paterno died months ago and his wife just reported it to his superiors today.

And their starting QB left. -
chicago510Who takes over in Oregon? You know Phil Knight will overpay someone

Yeah but the player doesn't mean as much. He doesn't know nearly as much as the coach. -
se-alumHave to believe the hammer is on its way. Kelly is pulling a Petey.

They wont be able to get a high school coach to come there, they are gonna get raped by the NCAA. -

karen lotzRT @footballscoop: Tampa / Oregon: We have confirmed Chip Kelly has accepted the head job at Tampa.
-
jordo212000Not sure how I see Kelly doing. Can he adjust his style? Can his style work with Josh Freeman?
-
Terry_TateThis has all the makings of what Pete Carroll did. Completely out of nowhere with an NCAA ruling looming ahead. With them wanting to get tougher and what they did to Ohio State, I could see Oregon getting pounded since theirs dealt with getting recruits.
-
lhslep134Not gonna lie it would be pretty funny to see a Colts-Bucs game with Jim Tressel squaring off against Chip Kelly.
-
Tobias FünkeIf the NCAA doesn't curbstomp the program, I would expect to see Chris Petersen there.
-
sportchamppsI think Oregon may be in some trouble. In the ESPN article it says Kelly was intrigued by the NFL Because he won't have to deal with NCAA oversight. Personally I don't see Kellys style working in the NFL. I also don't see Peterson there if he didn't want the USC, UCLA, or Stanford jobs but Phil Knight could just make a offer he can't refuse.
-
sportchamppsI think Bowden will do good at Akron. His name alone will help recruiting and his staff also has name recognition. When your competing for players against other MAC school name recognition can go a long way.
-
j_crazyBe shocked if petersen goes. 1 week to signing day, likely losing the top assistant (bellotti), and looming ncaa probe. Not a recipe for success.

if that source isn't good enough for you Lotz, i'll post the official announcement when it comes out.
Second only the Urban Meyer? Apparently former Nebraska coach, Frank Solich, is not a high-profile coach. Perhaps Frank isn't as "high-profile" as Bowden, but he has certainly turned Ohio's football program around. Maybe Bowden will do even more at Akron.Landing Bowden is a coup for the Mid-American Conference school and gives Akron a high-profile football coach second only to Ohio State’s Urban Meyer in the state.
But to be honest, Bowden must have been feeling some deep, deep desperation to see Akron as an "opportunity."
lmao“I’m so excited to be a Zip,” Bowden said... -
Little DannyESPN reported today Kelly has turned down the job in Tampa and is committed to remaining the coach at Oregon.

I'm sure Bowden sees this as a possible stepping stone back to big time college football. If he can turn this program around, he can get himself considered for some better jobs.believer;1062850 wrote:Second only the Urban Meyer? jordo212000Lol at Bowden being a bigger name than Solich

Well that article was written by a Canton reporter, so there is going to be a little bit of bias.believer;1062850 wrote:Second only the Urban Meyer? Really? I'm not about to waste my time with another bitch fest with you. But you act like its not even debatable. Solich has the resume, but I'm willing to bet the "Bowden" name, no matter what the first name is, is going to get a lot more recognition from recruits than Solich.jordo212000;1063035 wrote:Lol at Bowden being a bigger name than Solich -

You are entitled to your opinion, but I really doubt anybody cares about this Bowden. People aren't saying "oh gosh I gotta get to Akron, that guy is Bobby Bowden's son!!!"Pick6;1063160 wrote: Really? I'm not about to waste my time with another bitch fest with you. My point remains the same, Solich has actually put together a resume... on the field. You know, where uh stuff actually matters? What has Terry Bowden done that anybody who is a college athlete's age will remember? I'm probably 2-3 years older than most football players and remember Terry mostly for his run on ABC with Jon Saunders as the guy with the annoying high pitched voice. Bowden had some success at Auburn, but I honestly think he has been living off daddy's last name for most of his career. -

well he did go undefeated in the SEC at Auburn and would probably have a national title if the program wasn't under sanctions. Everywhere he has went he has succeeded.jordo212000;1063483 wrote:You are entitled to your opinion, but I really doubt anybody cares about this Bowden. Also, nobody is going "I need to go to OU because Solich is the coach!!!"...
The name Bowden is more recognizable than Solich, which is what you "LOL'ed" about whether you like it or not. Doesn't matter who has the better resume.
