  This is exactly why I don't want him coaching at Ohio State. As it was stated earlier, he has a huge ego. With everything that is going on with this team right now, it's going to take at least a couple years before we're a "12-0" type of team. Does Meyer have the patience to wait out the storm? Or does he get frustrated and quit on the team like he did at Florida (for whatever reason). With Meyer, we're probably "talked-up" quite a bit - by ESPN, etc. - because he's a former SEC coach. I just don't like the idea of Meyer taking over, implementing a spread offense, and then bailing on the team if they don't perform up to his "standards" - whatever they may be. I agree, bringing in guys unique to your offense can be a horrible idea.
  
  If Meyer gets the job, brings in those guys for his offense, then bails - we're looking at a scUM type turnaround. That's the last thing I want.
  
  I, personally, would like one of the Stoops brothers. I'm a huge fan of Mike Stoops from Arizona. I think what he's been able to do with that team - except for here lately - has been wonderful for the Wildcats football program.

  Bob Stoops - hired as head coach.
  Mark Stoops - hired as defensive coordinator.
  Mike Stoops - hired as offensive coordinator.
  
  Not likely to happen, I know, but why not bring the whole family home? Just my two cents. Here's my post about last night's ugly loss in Coral Gables.

  Meyer quit after winning 2 national titles in 6 seasons. If he does that, I'm fine with him leaving the program in shambles for 3 years.

  I don't think you're dissing him at all...as a matter of fact, even though I threw his name out there, I don't think he's ready either. However, I think it's great that we're even discussing Coach Beckman, 'cause if I would've brought his name up a month or so ago (w/o mentioning where he was the coach), there would have been a number of posters who asked "who the hell is he again"? He's making a name for himself, and he will coach at the major D1 level....someday.

  People forget that Fickell was passed over for the Miami of Ohio job. He's just not ready. He looks confused. And to say he doesn't know what's going on with the offense is his fault. He's the head coach. We all know the play calling was poor and the handling of the QB situation is laughable.

  I was hoping Fickell would do well and keep the job, but after watching that pathetic display Saturday night it is painfully obvious that he is in way over his head. He quit with 3-4 minutes to play, no timeouts used, sure they would have lost anyway but you play to the end, as Jim Valvano said don't give up, don't ever give up and Luke gave up. Also Joe Bauserman, if Fickell insists on playing this turd, I don't know if I can watch anymore games. I agree with Tony Banks on the BTN, for a 5th year senior, he should be ashamed, that was awful. Miller made a couple mistakes but he is young and at least has an upside, also he was trying to make plays not heaving the ball 20 rows into the stand every other play like Bauserman. I don't know who the next coach should be, but after Saturday night I don't want it to be Luke Fickell, and take those awful coordinators with him, especially Bohlman, the play calling was just unbelievable.

  Since Kyle Chandler just won and Emmy for player Coach Eric Taylor on Friday Night Lights I now vote that OSU should hire him as the head coach. I don't know if he can coach a lick of football, but he can hire a good staff to do that. All I know is that he will look and sound like a football coach and he'll motivate the heck out of his players.

  It's obvious he's been threaten numerous times that if he throws an INT or gets sacked a lot he's done. He SHOULD be done regardless. I hope it doesn't take 2 B1G losses before playing for next year begins.

  One of the things that I liked about Tressel was that he would recruit the best players available, then craft and offense to maximize their strengths and minimize their weaknesses. When he had a game manager in Krenzel OSU relied on the run game and Kenzel's decision making ability, and only threw the ball 15 times a game. When they had Troy Smith they ran a spread, allowing Smith to use his feet and his arm to make plays. With Boekman he ran a pro-style offense. With Pryor he ran a modified pro-style offense that allowed the QB to be mobile.
  
  If you run an offensive system that requires a certain type of player you cut talented people out of your recruiting pool and you limit your ability to succeed when you don't have the players that you need, because your system doesn't fit their strengths (look at Michigan under Rich Rodriguez).
  
  Even though I'm not a huge Urban Meyer fan, I feel that he is more willing to modify and adapt his system to fit his players. When he first got their they ran more of a pro-style offense and less zone-read with Chris Leak. With Brantly they again moved away from such a heavy zone-read system.

  The worst possible situations are like RICHRODs Spread and nothing else mindset. What is more frustrating than getting inside the 10 yard line on a long pass or run and not having TEs, Fullback's a stud TB and the powerful O-line to smash mouth it in for a TD?. The spread can be worthless inside the 5 yard line.

  Didn't say it was, simply a response to the hypothetical concerns of him bailing on OSU and setting the program back. I was agreeing with you, stop looking for reasons to be a dick on here.

  IMO, OSU done Fickell a disservice by not committing to him for at least 2 years. He's in a nearly impossible position. He has to try to win this year, without 3 of his best players and a Heisman candidate that is no longer with the team. Anyone that says this team doesn't have talent, is simply crazy. This team has alot of talent, unfortunately, it's all young and inexperienced. I'll wait till the end of the season to decide whether or not Fickell can handle this job. The guy has coached 3 games in complete turmoil.

  Yea, people tend to forget that Tressel was 7-5 his first year at OSU. All he did the following year was win a National Championship.

  Commit to him for two years? Let's not forget that he's an interim coach. Had Tressel been fire/resigned/retired after the bowl game last year Luke Fickell probably never would have been given an opportunity to be the head coach at OSU, let alone get an interview for the job. The school would have done a national search and interviewed big time candidates and they would have brought someone else in. Fickell is only in the position because Tressel left at the end of May. He should be thankful that he get's a year-long audition.

  There are lots of ways besides winning to show you're head coaching material.
  
  Standing on the sidelines like a deer in the headlights (see Fickell's mentor, John Cooper) is not one of them.
  
  This game against Colorado and the one against MSU are going to be huge for him. If he continues to flounder, and stay uninvolved or interested in the offensive side of the ball -- he'll be lucky to find an assistant coaching job in the MAC next season.

  I feel for Coach Finkle as he is over his head right now and it's time to look for a new head coach . I have NEVER liked the coaching of the offensive line in Bohlman . I may be wrong , but I dont even think we have "hitting sleds" for the linemen to learn how to block and at least drive a opposing lineman at least five yards off the ball and hold the block . I heard on t.v saturday that the FIRST thing Coach Hoke asked was ,where do you have your sleds at for the linemen to hit ? He could not believe that they never had any and his reply was , how does expect these kids learn how to block ? So its time to clean the cupboards.......
