Week 3: Ohio State @ Miami
-
stroupsThis is an incredibly young team with all the injuries and suspensions but these kids are just going to have to find a way to win. I kind of feel like I'm holding my breath waiting for a power play to be over. Once some of these players get out of the penalty box I will feel a lot better.

Supposedly OSU was talking to the NCAA yesterday. Hopefully we get some sort of answer at the luncheon this afternoon.vball10set;894150 wrote:any word on the suspended three players? -

I agree. I'm fairly confident that we will see Braxton early on, despite what took place in the Toledo game. If anything, the Toledo game should prove to Fickell that he needs Braxton to mix in the offense in order to beat Miami.Zoltan;893884 wrote:I think Braxton will play vs. Miami and more than people think. You can't beat Miami by your QB just doing the minimal. Especially when you consider OSU's offense is basically in shambles because of suspensions and injuries. Getting Jordan Hall back would be a HUGE boost. -
TiernanKeeping Miller on the bench last Sat. might have been a very well planned strategy by the C-staff. Miami now has very little knowledge of what this kid maybe capable of and yet you can be sure they are somehow trying to prepare for it. Brilliant Luke!

He is going to hvae to play him early on. Dumping a true freshman into a game late with a close game is just asking for mistakes and turnovers.dat dude;894182 wrote:I agree. Sports By Brooks is tweet trolling about the charity event. Not sure if he is accurate or not but says players have been going to the event since at least 2008. -

It's true, but what he is leaving out is that Compliance and the NCAA knew about it 2008-2010. The Dispatch reported that info last week when the details came out.karen lotz;894344 wrote:Sports By Brooks is tweet trolling about the charity event. Ok I didn't even bother clicking the link he tweeted. -
WriterbuckeyeThe compliance folks had been approving appearances at this charity event for a number of years, until lately. Why these dunderheads didn't go through the channels they were supposed to is almost stupefying. Then to take money in the midst of all the turmoil that was happening is beyond stupid.
I want to know who the former player is that may have given some of these guys cash. It's either Ted Ginn Jr. or Troy Smith, if the player(s) who said they got money from a former player are correct. Once we know, I want that player banned from OSU for life. -
WriterbuckeyeAs far as the game: I don't believe for one second that Fickell deliberately held Miller out of the Toledo game as part of some grand scheme to keep them from knowing something about our offense. Even with Miller playing, that offense is not something that will scare any opponent.

thedynasty1998Brooks is a moron, but said Pryor ratted out OSU and hasn't tweeter since. I hate to even give the guy a second of my time but it's interesting.
This dinner was an expensive dinner that promised guests a table with a current or former OSU football player. If money exchanged hands it would be hard to imagine this being the first time. -

IMO, anyone who either attempts or succeeds at giving current players gifts of any kind needs to be held accountable...maybe this will deter at least some of these assholes from tempting these kids.Writerbuckeye;894370 wrote: I want to know who the former player is that may have given some of these guys cash. COLUMBUS – No. 17 ranked Ohio State faces its first road trip of the season this week, and head coach Luke Fickell is concerned about how his very young team will handle all of the distractions involved with the nationally televised game at Miami on Saturday night.
Speaking at his weekly news conference here on Tuesday, the first-year Buckeyes’ boss said he won’t change the travel format much from what his predecessor Jim Tressel used, but the inexperience on the team remains an issue.
“When we go on the road, we talk to them about having great focus,” Fickell said. “There’s a lot that’s different about playing on the road and a number of these guys haven’t done this before, but we have to stay focused on the job we are there to do. It’s critical that we do that.”
Due to graduation losses, multiple suspensions and injuries, Ohio State has played a dozen true freshmen in its first two games this season, and had 11 players make the first starts of their career in the season-opener against Akron. Among FBS programs, only Texas and Auburn have played more true freshmen. -

http://www.elevenwarriors.com/2011/09/fickell-presser-notes-miami-fl-week#more... Coach Fickell was under the impression Corey Brown, Jordan Hall, and Travis Howard would be available for the Toledo game. Unfortunately, that never came to pass. He couldn't comment on their status this week and mentioned that it was "part of the game" in dealing with this dragged-on process. (Earl Bruce surmised earlier in the week that the NCAA won't be satisfied until Ohio State loses a game).
... There are "no regrets" with not playing Braxton Miller, who Fickell said was "dinged up" a little bit. (Later clarified that his health didn't affect him not playing). He said he wants to make sure both his quarterbacks have "their minds right" going into the Miami game and don't dwell on the past.
... No status update on Philly Brown. "He doesn't look great," Fickell said.

Any idea on the specific time when?dat dude;894435 wrote:Brewster said OSU will find out today whether the 3 suspended players will be able to play this Saturday. -
WriterbuckeyeThat's a decent analysis, but the fact this staff (Bollman now without JT possibly overriding him) continues to run into the teeth of 8 man fronts is just stupid play calling.
And if your blockers aren't picking up the right guys, you mean to tell me there's nobody in the press box who is seeing this and it can't be corrected almost immediately?
All of this speaks very poorly to the offensive staff being able to adjust on the fly -- something we've known since JT became coach. How many times did he stubbornly run the ball against stacked fronts, especially on first down when the D knew what was coming?
That this staff continues doing the same dumb things is why Fickell will be out of a job and the end of the season. If he truly wants to make this team his, perhaps he should get more involved on the offensive side of the ball, if nothing more than adjusting the play calling away from Bollman. How about letting Drayton call the plays?
He needs to do something to change things, because following the Tressel formula most likely isn't going to work for him. He's not Jim Tressel.
Here's another analysis that breaks down all the plays and shows how predictable OSU was, especially on first down (78 percent of the plays on that down were runs up the middle).
