Texas A&M just joined the SEC...well maybe

SportsAndLadyWhat's the point of even saying that? lol

the_systemInside Tide is reporting Missouri has a noon deadline on Sunday to decide.
"@Mike_Desamero been told from source close #sec that #Missouri has noon deadline on Sunday. Should be interesting next 24 hours."

I wonder if Texas laid down their 'ultimatum' again like they did with Nebraska back in the spring? -
TwinTurboFarther down on Inside Tide it also said in reference to the noon deadline.
@BarrettSallee #Mizzou has noon deadline from the SEC to accept it's offer or #SEC will move in another direction. FSU, Clemson left out.
Sounds to me like they have a backup plan if mizzou stays put -

I've heard FSU and/or Clemson will be a tougher sell to voting SEC members because they don't want schools already on their turf. Florida doesn't want FSU and SC doesn't want Clemson in to steal their thunder. With Missouri and A&M they get new markets and new recruiting. -

Saw somewhere that someone put a 30-40% chance of Texas A&M not even being voted it and perhaps it has more to do with that 14th team than TAM. Perhaps if Missouri says no, the SEC holds off on all plans? -

That is why Clemson/FSU surprised me as being at the forefront. As I said before, they don't really bring anything that the SEC needs as far as making more money. I would say NC State and Virginia Tech make more sense because it puts the SEC in two completely new states and would have them covering the entire south. Both of those schools have plenty to gain also, so it seems like a two-way benefit. -

Here's the way I see it.
The SEC needs an even number of teams. They want A&M and Missouri isn't a bad get either. Missouri wants out of the B12 bad and so does A&M. I can't see it not happening because one of them doesn't want to leave.
but..... there are things to work out first. $$$ is one of them. Nebraska had to give up like $9 million dollars + make less than other B10 members for a certain period of time at the start. -

I know they both want out, but I doubt the SEC is going to lock itself into taking one team without a second. There's a huge difference between taking Missouri and TAM or taking TAM and hoping you'll get someone else later. They certianly already could have someone on backup, but found it interesting that TAM isn't necessarily considered a lock at this point. I would imagine they don't want to add just for the sake of adding - they want to add solid new markets.
And yes, obviously the money is going to be at the center of discussion on all sides. -
j_crazyi'm predicting:
aTm, Missou, WVU, and Maryland end up in the SEC. -
norwalkI would think markets have more to do with who the B1G would expand with more so than the school. Notre Dame obvisously is national and then I would think somewhere in the New York market and St. Louis markets.
Eventually 4 super conferences consisting of 16 teams. The Pac10 with OU, OSU being added. The B1G10 with Notre Dame, Missouri, Kansas, KSU. Big East and ACC combining and the SEC. Basically the biggest 64 teams forming into 4 super conferences with 2 automatic bids into the BCS and then either independents or smaller conferences filling in the remaining 2 slots into the BCS. -
WriterbuckeyeThe NY City market isn't into college football -- it's into pro sports. So I'm not sure you'd have a whole lot of leverage as a tv network looking to get money from providers if the interest is low. I sure don't see NY City being interested in any of the teams the Big Ten might consider, except possibly Notre Dame, and that's only because they have a national following anyway.

jordo212000A&M better get into the SEC after all of this. Haha
I can't believe that Missouri is deemed to be one of the most attractive options for the SEC. Doesnt make much sense to me at all -
jordo212000Can we please stop talking about Rutgers to the Big 10?

Who is bringing Rutgers up? -

Somebody mentioned adding the NY market. It was longer than a few sentences. I'd say you didnt read it -

Well, their team isn't horrible. Then throw in the fact that the STL/KC market is pretty huge.jordo212000;861331 wrote:A&M better get into the SEC after all of this. Haha

I read it..there's more than just Rutgers in the NY market in case u didn't know. -

Oh yeah I get that. I mean Missouri just doesn't seem like it matches up very well with the SEC -
norwalkI brought up NY market and maybe I mean more of a east coast market. Heck, if B1G added Notre Dame maybe BC would be a fit. I just really see eventually going to 16 teams. Who the other 4 will be I don't know. Thinking out loud I would think ND, Missouri, eastern market, and maybe a Kansas. Who knows, maybe we add 5 and drop Northwestern or something like that.

Who else would he be talking about? Syracuse? St. John's (who doesnt play in D-1A).
Syracuse has never really been under very much consideration. Everybody knew he was referring to Rutgers -

I mean I too thinkthe big ten wont take Rutgers...I just thought it was hilarious one person said open up the NY market and you're like "omg stop bringing up Rutgers!" -
SportsAndLadyBy the way..what's the difference in people bringing up missou and the St Louis market and people bringing up Rutgers and the NY market? I mean St Louis doesn't scream college city, and Missouri hasn't had much more success than Rutgers has

karen lotzCan't see Notre Dame joining a conference unless Texas goes somewhere other than Big XII. They are more likely to go Independent that join the PAC whatever or Big Ten+.

I can't see ND joining a conference unless they get a sweeter TV deal than their current NBC one
