5/7/11 More trouble for OSU

    Mark Titus is supposedly getting harrassed pretty good over his comments. Small as well.

    At what point do the OSU crazies realize that people closer to the situation (closer to the players than watching them on TV every saturday) might actually be telling the truth? So far it has been people speaking out and/or showing their observations of what is going on around them, followed by some die hards who follow that up with some 'you broke the guy-code/secret club/dawgz-fo-life' shit.

    There is a big difference between Titus and Small though.

    Titus is self admittedly not close to the situation and Small sounds like a pissed off kid calling children's services because he got spanked by his parents

    And all Titus did was give his observation that a lot of football players were driving nice cars, and a lot of times they were newer Chargers, which is what others have said as well. He also said he would find it hard to believe they could afford them with the money that scholarship players were given, which he was for 2 years. He is closer to the situation than anyone outside of the football program, and a lot closer than you are as well as anyone who is calling him out for throwing his school under the bus.

    If you have Twitter, now would be an excellent time to get on. Players past and present are going after Smalls and not only them, people who grew up with Smalls who have no connection to Ohio State.

    Do I think Ray Small sold his stuff? Wouldn't doubt it. He also mentioned how he and others were educated on this stuff by compliance but he ignored it and did what he wanted. That shows he was educated and a blind eye was not turned, like some want to believe.

    With that being said, you really have to consider the source. Ray Small AND his father most definitely have a vendetta against Tressel and Ohio State because Tressel actually disciplined him.

    As far as what Titus said, honestly, what is it other than someone else offering an opinion? He said himself he doesn't have all the facts. While it's still early, the car story is started to be debunked (see Gibson actually paying for the car and also using a trade in). But again, it's still early so we'll see what comes of that.

    To get back to Twitter for a second, Ray Small's latest tweet is about us "making him a legend". Thats Ray Smalls in a nutshell.

    I don't have any issue with what Titus said. I've said it before...I worked at the Blackwell as an undergrad. Players were in and out of there all the time rollin in dealer plated cars. It was a regular thing.

    Then why would you have an issue with what Smalls said? All he did was say it was going on, which even you say you noticed it on the regular. Is it because his teammates expected him to lie or just cover up anything he knew? I'll wait until everything is final, but if it comes out that Smalls was telling the truth and getting harassed for it, the players giving him shit now should be strung up for it. Because more than likely they know shit but won't say anything because of their 'guy code' bullshit.

    Smalls may have did it but he also implicated all his teammates by saying "everyone was doing it". While a few of them may, he implicated a lot who are innocent as well.

    And again, it's Ray Small. If this were coming from someone else, i'd have a completely different view.

    I have a problem with Small's comments about the rules and I've never really liked him. I'm not defending any of the guys who sold shit. I don't buy that they didn't know they were in the wrong.

    Regarding the cars. I was always under the impression that they were "loaner" cars and the dealers had an agreement or whatever with OSU. This was just an assumption and I never really looked into it because frankly....I didn't care.

    Guy has been digging at OSU for a few weeks now, as well as YSU. Look a few pages back, it was talked about. Supposedly "it will end Tressel's career".

    Titus self admittely said he had no idea what was going on and only knew how much money they got and what cars he saw players driving.

    As for me calling him out? Never did.

    That is the exact article that was posted in The Lantern. It says it comes from the AP in Columbus. I'm sure whoever writes the article that comes out would take credit for it and put his own name on it.

    Edit: it might be just an excerpt but it is from the article that was published last night regardless.

    First of all, I don’t have any “inside information”, mostly because I didn’t play football and therefore have no idea how their program is run. I’ve never been to any of their practices, I never once hung out with any of the players, I went to completely different tattoo parlors and car dealerships when I was at OSU than they did, and the envelopes full of cash I received always came from a different booster than their cash came from (I had a class with Ross Homan one quarter, and we worked on group projects together and usually sat by each other, but I wouldn’t exactly say we “hung out” really). Also, I’ve only ever talked to Jim Tressel twice in my life, with the first of these occasions being when he came to one of our practices during my sophomore year


    In other words he was as close to the situation as any other student.

    He is closer to the situation. Was the average OSU student on full athletic scholarship for 2 years and would have an idea how the money the athletes got weren't enough to pay for a new Charger with tricked out rims? You can't understand that? Titus didn't have inside information on how they got the cars or if they got hookups, but he was putting two and two together to try to explain how they could have afforded those cars. God damn man.
