Ohio State 2011 Off-Season Discussion

Zach Boren said that Carlos Hyde ran a 4.42 40 in workouts the other day, fastest of all running backs.

^Saw that. I wonder what Hall and Berry ran. Obviously both of those guys can make moves faster and I would bet are faster in shorter bursts. Good for Hyde.

Also SE, I am glad you have kept your avatar :)

Also Florida pulled their offer from national OLB DeShawn Rippy. PA OLB. Good news for tOSU on that one.

I think the better question is... why did Florida pull their offer from a national prospect?

I really have to wonder about Hyde. For how big he is getting... and how fast he is becoming... performance enhancers?

Kozan has said "it will be hard not to commit on the spot if offered by OSU." Smith on theringer.com seems to think an offer will come in two weeks when the staff meets again.

I hope so, this has taken way too long. Talk about something they should have talked about before they went on vacation.

OSU is still very much in the race for Washington. He has said he is just waiting to see what the sanctions will be and if they will affect him. Still have a shot at getting the package deal from Taft.

While observers might consider linebacker a position of current weakness, Florida still repealed a scholarship offer to one of the nation’s standout high schoolers last month.
Four-star recruit Deaysean Rippy is a star at Sto-Rox High in McKees Rocks, Pa.
Rippy recorded 77 tackles and seven sacks as a junior, and he holds scholarship offers from top of the line programs like Alabama, Ohio State and Southern California.
But Florida is noticeably absent from that list — no longer an option for Rippy after a tumultuous trip to Gainesville.
The Gators originally offered Rippy while Urban Meyer was still at the helm.
The outside linebacker was close with former defensive coordinator Teryl Austin and said he spoke with Meyer “a lot,” forming a solid relationship.
But on June 18, while on a family-funded unofficial weekend trip to Gainesville, the Gators repealed Rippy’s offer.
The withdraw came a mere three days after fellow outside linebacker Lorenzo Phillips orally committed to UF.
“They really burned the bridge with me, just by the way that they handled everything down there,” he said.
“Instead of calling my mentor or calling me or sending me a Facebook message. Instead of letting me waste $400 on airfare and being miserable in my dorm for two days.”
Rippy was told that with two outside linebacker oral commits — Phillips and Jeremi Powell — the Gators had reached their quota at the position but would continue to recruit him.
With Florida’s offer gone, he said he is now completely open in his recruitment.
At one time it was OSU or Florida. Will be interesting to see where OSU stands when he comes out with his top 5.

I just read on Rivals that Nathan Williams is being investigated for tattoos.

I'd be shocked if the new player getting 5 games isn't Williams. Unfortunately, this kid finds trouble everywhere. Great player, but an idiot off the field.
  • Midstate01
Cant be Williams. Says the player isn't on the team any longer. Dorian Bell?

Rumors going around that Dodson to Wisky is not a done deal and he may be re-opening his recruitment. Would be an excellent sign for OSU.

I really don't see OSU taking a huge hit recruiting wise despite all this crap. Losing Kalis does sting, but I wouldn't be surprised if he came back aboard if the sanctions aren't as severe as people want us to believe. His decisions have been so hasty up to this point that you never know. The class right now is actually pretty nice IMO. The star ratings won't blow you away but I think a couple of these guys are flying under the radar right now. If OSU doesn't get hammered, a lot of the top guys who are on the fence about OSU will take notice. There's more than a few guys out there who are simply waiting to see what happens with OSU.

Not to mention that Fickell has gotten a really nice start on the 2013 class too in getting offers out to guys who will be considered elite when the first batch of rankings come out.

OSU had such a nice 2011 class and will have a strong 2013 class, so I'm not worried about what happens with 2012. Hopefully Dunn stays committed, though.

Good to hear. This Kalis stuff makes me sick.

Definitely a glass half full approach. I think Dunn stays.

^ I think he does too.

If Ohio State can pull of an OL class of Davidson, Kozan, Dodson and Boren. I think it is a win. That is my optimistic class right now.
  • se-alum
I don't see Dunn going anywhere. Even if OSU would receive a one year bowl ban(don't think they will), it wouldn't have any affect on the 2012 recruits.

Yeah I think Dunn stays too unless they get absolutely hammered.

I hear Boren could very well end up at FB instead of on the OL. OL one thing that kind of worries me right now. Last year's OL class was alright and Boren is the only commit we have right now and who knows if he actually ends up on the OL. Kalis leaving stings but there's still hope with the guys you've mentioned. I still don't know why Kozan hasn't been offered yet. Dodson would make me a happy man if we could pry him out of Wisky's hands.
