Week 8: Navy def. Notre Dame, 35-17

Well, I said I don't know if they are. I haven't seen every FBS team play. They aren't faster, especially on defense, than any FBS I have watched play.

Don't get me wrong, I love a good trap. I was the pulling guard who would tear defensive tackle's heads off during them. :) But I cannot comprehend how terrible Notre Dame's defensive plan was.

Okay, I'm turning into a broken record. It's time to head to some parties now that the Purdue game is over. :D

This game almost defies logic and unfortunately it will fuel people to say say Notre Dame is horrible. What really confuses me is Michigan fans. I mean 1) look at the ND-UM game without bias and you'd realize you shouldn't be talking shit and 2) Michigan hasn't received respect from anyone in a long time either.

Many people too will ignore matchups and see an "L" against Navy (who people stupidly think is bad or something) and assume they can't beat Utah or Southern Cal. If they come out defensively like today and have to run the spread with the second-teamers....yeah, they'll get beat soundly. But you're NEVER as good as you look, and you're NEVER as bad as you look. Everyone can calm down a little bit.
News flash buddy. It's not just Michigan fans that think Notre Dame sucks. All fans know they suck. You just have to realize Notre Dame sucks.

You running your mouth all the time, then being proven wrong, is priceless. Fans like you (no matter the team they cheer for) are why I chime in on threads.

    Get over yourself.

What have I said that was wrong? I made comments on how the game should turn out due to player matchups, and said no one really has a clue based on schemes so it's moot. I say it all of the time. I can't get proved wrong because I don't know what will happen.

but are you some sort of genius who knew the game would end 35-17 Navy? You should work in Vegas. Oh wait, they favored Notre Dame by a touchdown while knowing their entire receiving corp was out for a team that passes the ball frequently. "News flash buddy," this game was a shocker to even the professionals. You're like ccrunner, when Notre Dame lost to Michigan going around saying "I told you so! I told you so!" because he predicted a Michigan win. Was he really a genius because he knew Notre Dame's offense would be derailed with a Crist injury? Are you really a genius because "Notre Dame sucks" when even the professionals thought Notre Dame would win?

Perhaps you should be the one getting over yourself. I'm not the one who thought playing quarterback at Navy took no talent; that was silly. I said Ian Williams should win the battle in the middle and Notre Dame's OLB's/DE's need to play well and they need to not turn the ball over. Then I said a bigger, faster, stronger team's advantage will get bigger in the second half from a purely bigger, faster, stronger sense. WHAT ABOUT THAT IS WRONG? So pardon my french, but what the fuck are you talking about? Because I also very clearly said "Notre Dame should worry," but obviously they didn't and got destroyed.

Time for Navy to drop Notre Dame so they can upgrade their schedule.

Nice zinger. And judging by the lack of rebuttal I can assume you don't either. :D

Because I don't really give a shit if you think you are right and have all the answers. ND lost 35-17, end of story.
  • karen lotz
End of story then maybe you should slide on over to the OSU thread.

So I'm assuming you believe that ND loses to Utah and USC.

But where do you feel that the other loss comes from. Does ND lose to Tulsa? Or do you think they lose to Army? I'm interested to hear your reasoning behind it as well...

Maybe the weekly ND game will cease being a "sticky" game now...huh?

Well, we knew damn well these folks were going to come out of the woodwork and what can we really respond with? Not much.

Any shred of optimism that I had from some positives early in the season are now flushed down the toilet.

Sure, Navy executes like few others but damn......there's no way they have better athletes overall and they looked like they wanted it more. I'm really beginning to sour on Crist. He's looked pretty bad lately. Rees was far from perfect but he looked better (even though it was in junk time) than Crist. I want Armando Allen out there as much as possible. None of our other backs run harder than him. He gets his shoulders squared up, hits the hole hard and he keeps his legs pumping. Not all of that dancing that Cierre does. TJ Jones is a player, but Crist was underthrowing him quite a bit. Furthermore, Crist has a tendency to lock on to a WR and the defense is reading his eyes the whole time. He doesn't even try to look anybody off. It's just sad. The defense had NO answer whatsoever for Navy's option attack. A NAVY FULLBACK RAN FOR 200 FUCKING YARDS. First time ever. I'm sick and fucking tired of all these records being set against ND every fucking year. I'd love to know what fucking "adjustments" Diaco made at halftime because whatever they were.....it sure as hell didn't work.

I don't know where ND goes from here but I am admittedly in full blown panic mode now. That was disgraceful.

Oh, and if you're not going to play....don't bother fucking dressing. You're not a great decoy from the sideline there, Michael. What was the fucking point???

It's like the "Department of Health and Human Services" and someone nitpicking human services. haha Notre Dame is bigger and faster, and as the game goes on that disadvantage for Navy will exacerbate. Notre Dame will get off more blocks in second half, it's just how the game works.

    I am not a "Dude".

The conditioning is everything when it comes to facing bigger, stronger opponents. The nitpicking is the pointed focus showing you where you are incorrect in stating it will impact Navy as the game goes on.

They are ready for more than 4 quarters of bigger, faster, stronger opponents. They face them most every week.

"I don't think Navy will get any sort of push in the middle to chew the clock.... "

In their base offense Navy doesn't need to "get a push". It's why they run the offense they do. They know they can't move larger defensive linemen. They either cut block or double and seal while leaving one d-lineman unblocked. it's that lineman that the QB reads.

Neither did Air Force. The Air Force Academy is the best defense I've seen this year against Navy's offense.

That an understatement. This team is far from last year's team.

Not only is he awesome...he is an incredible kid. I met him at the spring game this year and he is truly a very humble gentleman. Our country is in good hands if we have leaders like him.

He was voted class President because his shipmates respect him so much.

They work on that blocking technique even in the open field....every practice.

I'm sure Ian Williams appreciates that technique.

After watching the second half it's clear Ricky Dobbs is now healthy again. The offensive timing and execution was just cleaner.

I think the real success today for the Mids was the defense. They did a great job with their four man pressure up front while keeping everything underneath in the secondary. That was the key to the game....along with the lack of turnovers and penalties which is a staple at Navy.

Now...back to Annapolis to face Duke.

    Beat Army!

Congrats, Con. Your boys took it to us today. Good luck the rest of the way.

Thanks Killer....I still think Kelly is the the right Coach for the Irish. I think you are going to be happy in the end with him.

The thing that is really frustrating about today is that outside of the Stanford game, ND has shown flashes of being a very good football team. Each week they have competed and found a way to fight through some adversity. It was a totally different team today. Like I said earlier, it was apparent very early to me, that it was going to be one of those days. I don't know if it was the early start, school being on break, the players that were missing on offense, or a combination off those and other factors, but they just didn't play inspired football at all.
