Mock BCS standings per ESPN

    The mock BCS rankings:

    1) Boise
    2) Ore
    3) TCU
    4) Okla
    5) Ohio St
    6) LSU
    7) Neb
    8) Auburn
    9) Mich St
    10) Bama

I assume these are their projections using the current standings in the computer polls. Kind of shocking.

Kind of surprised as well. It doesnt matter though, these rankings wont last long
  • ptown_trojans_1
Not really. OSU's only big game came against Miami, who got roasted and dropped out of the rankings.
OSU's meat of the schedule is upcoming-Wisconsin, Iowa and maybe a ranked Michigan.
No worries. Buckeyes take care of business and they are Arizona bound.
Note: Sparty up that high is interesting. It will be very interesting to see how high they climb if they stay unbeaten.

No surprise at all imo. Boise an TCU will drop like rocks as they continue their juggernaut schedule.

There's a reason the BCS doesn't come out 'till it does, so you don't have this type of nonsense.

They haven't played anyone, no surprise here.

    who has boise played?

I was a little surprised to see TCU ahead of Ohio State. Whats their big win to this point? Oregon State? Its gonna work itself out in the next few weeks anyways, just wonder what the reason was for putting TCU that high

There is no way a #1 ranked undefeated OSU team doesn't get in to the BCS NC game.

What's that got to do with anything? I don't make the BCS, I think the ultimate irony would be an undefeated OSU not playing for the national title. Then you may see some changes.

Technically, at this point Oregon State is a better win than Miami. Miami getting destroyed by Florida St. and dropping from the rankings did not help OSU. While Oregon St. beat a top 10 team on the road.

Still, early and things will be really fluid in the next month as most of the top 15 plays each other.

I would agree with that. I don't see how major changes aren't made IF that were to happen. I don't think we'll see it though.

Are these posted somewhere, or was this just on their BCS Countdown show?

True. Although you could make the argument that OSU's win at Illinois is more impressive than anything else on TCU's schedule.

The media has been polishing Boise's knob all year. Whatever their motives are, they want them to play in the title game....bad. The same can be said for Oregon.

The fact is, Boise State's highlight victory came against a team that lost to a 1aa team. The other team is Oregon State, and I don't know if anyone has actually watched them play, but they are not that good. A bowl team? sure....but 6 wins is all you need to make a bowl. I have no idea how Arizona even got in the top 10 for Oregon State to beat them to tell you the truth. They come off a 33-0 pasting from Nebraska in the bowl game last year and get ranked high enough that a close win over Iowa at home (who probably isn't that great either) was enough to catapult them from nothing to top 10. Makes no sense to me.

Can someone explain how Boise would be in the top spot? They played Va Tech, who like Miami, has plummeted through the rankings. I realize they also beat Oregon State, but come on.

Saw a couple of the ESPN guys tweet it. I haven't seen a link for it though.

The BCS makes no sense. I know it is all about the almighty dollar, but I'm convinced an 8 team playoff of the top 8 in the final BCS standings would make the same amount of money or more. I don't see how you can say the BCS champion is a true national champion without playing and beating the best.
  • ytownfootball
It's not as much about how much money as it is who gets it.

Which is bullshit. Maybe the NCAA should go the way of the NFL and do profit sharing.
  • ytownfootball
Shit...the NCAA is hands off this...they don't sanction an "NCAA National Champion" in football...they ain't going to do shit.
  • tk421
Hell, the BCS could split the profits from the 8 team playoff 8 ways and the teams would probably make more than they do now.

I really don't think so. If the same entities that get the money now stood to get more by having a play-off we would have had it a long time ago. The NCAA gets just about as much market share as they're going get. I don't really see there being "casual" college football fans that would all of the sudden become rabid fans. You either watch it or you don't. The NCAA won't upset the apple cart. The NFL doesn't want to see changes in the cheapest farm system available either.

From Joe Schad's twitter: "ESPN's mock BCS standings are based on the actual polls and computer formulas"

As others have mentioned it is very early still and things will work themselves out one way or the other.

It's all about SOS and computer rankings right now.

One of the computers has OSU ranked 23rd.

It'll even itself out here soon though, as everybody on the show pointed out. Boise St. and TCU will fall down to 3 or 4, maybe even lower as other teams continue o win against better competition.

If OSU stays undefeated, they'll be #1 in all polls at the end of the season, point blank.

I actually had a laugh at Mark May though, he was ripping everything about the mock rankings.. Asked if the computers were made in Boise as well...
