How/Why would Michigan's offensive performance mean their defense is legit? I'm not getting what you mean here.

Yeah, typo. I meant to say legit offense

I think he meant to say "...they have a legit OFFENSE....it just means MSU's defense is overrated?"

    Tough call on this game.

MSU has a pretty solid rushing game with a good defense.

UM has an explosive offensive with a piss poor defense.

    Toss up imo.

Sparty spanks skunkweasels. Dantanio's Defense destroys Denard.

Yea no one is going to hold denard under 150 total yards in a game IMO and I have no clue why Dantanio is trying to make it to this game. he has been hospitalized 2 times now and needs to take a little break from football IMO.

Perhaps, but MSU doesn't rely on a passing attack...thus when running the ball they'll eat up plenty of clock.

MSU usually starts on fire and then folds toward the end of the year. That being said I think they take down the Wolverines in close affair 37-34

So all this talk about facing a real defense…

UConn is 51st in total defense, and 44th in scoring defense.
MSU is 41st in total defense, and 36th in scoring defense.

Consider the incredible numbers that UM put up against UConn, and they may actually have a statistically better defense.

They statistically gave up a ton of points and nearly lost to a perenially bad Indiana team. What's your point?

Point is, take away the Michigan game(since MSU hasnt played against them yet and Michigan put lotttts of numbers on the board against Uconn) from Uconn, and their defense is probably about on par with MSU's statistically. But everyone is saying this is the first time UM is gonna face a "real defense"

no.......I personally think that michigan already has an legit offence I'm just not sure exactly where they stand. But if MSU's defense gives up 49 POINTS then yes, I would consider them overrated (meaning I am rating them as good, not great, but good). So if the score someone posted earlier is Michigan 49 MSU 40, then Michigans offence would continue to impress but at the same time MSU's defense would be disappointing.

MSU is going to hurt UM.

Oh, and I suppose MSU is awesome since they played Western Michigan, Florida Atlantic, Notre Dame and Northern Colorado. 2 way street dude.

Not to mention you completely missed the point. MSU>UConn. But people are making it seem like MSU has a top 5 ranked defense.

If Michigan wins 14-7, is Michigan good?

If they win 49-42, are they good?

    No ;)

I hope this Dantonio in the box thing causes some problems with their offense.

Perhaps 1 dimensional was the wrong term, they are a 1 man show. Those rushing and passing yards are all produced by Denard. Take him away (which could happen with his dinged up knee) and Michigan is in trouble as they have no defense to stop the other team and give the offense some margin for error. This is where they differ from OSU IMO. Take Pryor away and OSU is sucking on offense, but the defense gives them room for error, thus not 1 dimensional (or not a 1 man show).
WebFire;507163 wrote:Curious...if Michigan beats MSU say, 49-42, what will your opinion of this team be?
I will then believe you can win with just offense. :)

Don't forget that MSU also beat a previously unbeaten and #11 ranked Wisconsin. That has to count for something.

I personally think Wisconsin is/was overrated. Seems every year they walk through their cupcake openers and get ranked, then fall. So if you take Wiconsin away from MSU's defense stats, and Michigan away from UConn's, MSU's defense isn't any better.

My only point is that IMO, MSU will not stop Michigan. Michigan just needs the defense to produce UM -1 on the scoring chart. Seems that is the way this season will go for UM.

I agree with this. MSU is good defensively against the power running game, something that Michigan has shown it doesn't need to do well to be successful on offense. The only real chance that Sparty has to hold down Robinson and the spread is to go on long sustained drives eating up a lot of the clock. Michigan's defense isn't great, but it is better against the power run game than it is against other attacks.

They have some degree of success against the run. The interior of their defense is the best part of the unit.

Just because you're good year in and year out doesnt mean you cant be good, yet overrated one year

Don't try to reason with cc unless you are discussing dodgeball or cross country.
