Brutus and the Ohio mascot.

  • hangonsloopy
I was just watching a video I took of the Buckeyes taking the field today. Did anyone at the game notice the Ohio mascot running out and tackling brutus? He pretty much took out the first guy with a flag, tackled brutus, then chased him down and tackled him again in the end zone. It was crazy. I dunno what the guy was thinking.

I didn't see it, but we need krazie45 to chime in on this :D

I figured someone would mention this, and yes it was me that was Brutus during this. I'm only going to comment on this once so here's the story.

Basically myself and another cheerleader were running the flag like any other game leading the team out onto the field. All of a sudden I see the bobcat running at me. Obviously at first I was very confused and then realized that he was going to try and tackle me. As he went to tackle me, I lowered my shoulder and sent him to the ground and his head popped off (the pinnacle of mascot embarrassment). I then figured that was over with so I started to walk towards the endzone and was firing up the crowd. All of a sudden I feel someone jump on my back....it was the bobcat. He starts legit punching me so I jump and fall back on my back so that I land on him. He keeps punching so I throw him off of me and walk away.

It wasn't planned and he almost got thrown out of the game. A lot of people asked why I didn't wail on him and my response is not only did I not want that to be my last game (Big 10 has VERY strict rules in regards to mascot fights) but I didn't want the bobcat and OU to make headlines off of Brutus' name and fame. After the first two OSU touchdowns I decided to exact my revenge with a little more class by waving the flag directly in his face and repeatedly pointing to the scoreboard.....and that's all I have to say about that.

No video yet (though I'm sure there will be one within the week) but here's a picture of the beginning of it:

It was definitely one of the crazier things to happen to me as Brutus haha.

I have to admit, as a Bobcat alum but a big Buckeye fan I had to laugh at this at first, but now - on behalf of all Ohio alum - please accept our sincerest apologies for this outrageous act of unsportsmanlike conduct. Here's the call, "Unsportsmanlike conduct...Bobcat mascot....15 yards from the spot of the foul....FIRST DOWN!" LOL

I must have missed knowing you were Brutus krazie. I was in 13aa and saw him jump on you in the endzone but I didn't notice him try and tackle you the first time until I watched my video. I took it on my phone, and its on my facebook page if anyone wants to look at it.

What a moron... good job on owning the bobcat, even though he jumped you unexpectedly, and having the poise to not escalate the situation and be the bigger "mascot".

Man look at that broken tackle. Tressel might give you a tryout at tailback next year.

"It wasn't planned and he almost got thrown out of the game. "

In a way it is pretty funny, but in another way why wasn't he thrown out of the game? That's practically assault and battery.

He wasn't thrown out because it was two mascots.

    Definitely Bush League.

There was some talk about this on the OU message board (they all think Rufus is a dumbass too), but I posted your explanation over there krazie. There have been a couple "staged" fights like that for some MAC games, so your explanation helps to dispel that with some of the OU fans who weren't sure/close enough to be able to tell.

WTF does that have to do anything? Does that mean mascots have carte blanche to tackle each other? Its one thing if the attack was "staged", i.e. the contact was invited. The photo is pretty funny, but the dumbass could have knocked over the cheerleader or hurt someone else.

I'm no OSU fan, but this is awesome! Way to make him look like a jackass.

Were you at the Ohio Statehouse for a wedding a few months back, as brutus of course.

I did notice that lol, it was hilarious how he got his head knocked off.

I have an ex that is a cheerleader down here and we had a mascot break our much smaller version of the team entrance flag..that shit is expensive. OU would have been pissed at him if they got a bill for breaking that thing.

I have to wonder if the OU administration has seen this video. Whoever the Bobcat mascot is needs a a couple of games suspension for this stuff. I could see this guy getting with you to stage some stuff after the Buckeyes entered the field but seriously...this was uncalled for. wow

    LMAO best thread ever.

I love the end when he jumps on krazie's back and then the WTF from krazie after he gets up. The lone booing person makes it even better. Good job Krazie way to represent and keep a cool head. He could have done you a favor by not blindsiding you everytime, then it might have been funny instead of just weird.

    Bucknuts article with alternate video
Ok, Ohio State has the nation's No. 2-ranked team. We can understand how some people may want to poke a hole in the Ohio State mystique.

But to take cheap shots at the beloved OSU mascot, Brutus Buckeye? Well, that's just hitting below the belt. (And believe us when we tell you, Rufus Bobcat can hit below the belt.)

How do we know that? Well, we have the video to prove it.

We aren't sure if this was planned, but as Ohio State made its usual chereographed entrance on Saturday an intruder ran across the Ohio Stadium turf and accosted Brutus Buckeye.

That intruder was Rufus Bobcat. As you will see on the video captured from field level by Bret Hoovler below, the OSU band played "Fight The Team" to usher the cheerleaders and the football team onto the field before Saturday's game against Ohio (which the Buckeyes won 43-7, by the way).

Well, as you will note, the Ohio mascot charged full bore onto the field during the OSU team's triumphant entrance to the stadium and pretty much attacked Brutus Buckeye. He knocked over the huge OSU flag and even loses his head in the process.

Some might say this was a premeditated attack designed to throw Brutus and the Buckeyes off their game. Too bad it did not work.

Heck, all's fair in love and war, right?

But this kind of unprovoked assault is the kind of thing that could get a school uninvited from the party. (After all, Ohio State paid their little brother from the MAC a tidy $850,000 to fill this open date on the schedule.)

We won't get too deep on you, though. Judge for yourself. Here is the pregame video as the band welcomes the OSU team and cheerleaders onto the field and Rufus Bobcat makes his presence known and felt. (Especially note the moment at about 50 seconds into this video when Rufus gets frisky and punches the beloved Brutus in the ... er, towel. That's right before Rufus was escorted from the field ... finally ... by security.)

Here is the video. Judge for yourself. After this ridiculous display, should Ohio ever grace the doorstep of Ohio Stadium ever again?

This was probably the best stick by anybody from OU the entire day. Nice job owning him Krazie.
