How was that any different than what Brandon Saine and Dan Herron faced on the field this past Saturday? OU was awful. -
Fly4FunIs the OC officially major league now that we have been linked by a news outlet?
Are we more major league than even JJ? -
karen lotz^^^
I think so. OC got the call up from the minors and JJ was sent to the Japanese league. -

karen lotzGreat pic.

Manhattan BuckeyeThe guy shooting the video had a perfect angle - either the OU mascot guy was drunk, or made a lot of money on a bet. Would have been funnier if security handcuffed him in costume and walked him out.

Is that an admission that you have no clue what you're talking about? -

like_thatIf this kid gets nothing but a ban from being an OU mascot, then I say its well worth it, and a great story to tell for the rest of his life.

SpeedofsandGood job Krazie45. Way to keep your cool. Pomeroy Rufus is a thug.

From the article:
"Brandon Hanning, the person in the Rufus costume, said he was not upset with the aftermath.
"It was the whole reason I tried out (to be Rufus) last year," he said. "I knew we were going back to OSU this year, and I wanted to tackle Brutus."
Hanning, 19, is a student at Hocking College. He enrolled at OU last year but dropped out, he said. He added that he still hadn't been informed of his firing, but didn't care." -

royal_kHow does a kid, not enrolled in school, serve as a mascot?

Hey Frank...Ya think?Ohio coach Frank Solich said he did not know much about the situation.
"Obviously we needed to tackle the guy with the ball, not the mascot," he said.
Ohio has 23,000 students and we couldn't find ONE who wants to be the Bobcat mascot? They allow a Hocking Tech student do the dishonor? WTF??
As an Ohio alum I'm baffled by that one. -

The University of Virginia "Cavalier" (coined CavMan) rides a thoroughbred leading the team onto the field pre-game (and sometimes at half time) - the guy is an alumnus but not a current student. Then again, I agree with you, I'm not sure he's the "mascot", he's just the handler of an animal that could be very, very dangerous if not handled correctly. The "person-in-the-costume" Cavalier is a student. Probably the same thing with the Oklahoma Sooner Schooner - I don't know whether the handlers are students, but I wouldn't be surprised if non-students are helping control ye olde wagontrain.royal_k;491108 wrote:How does a kid, not enrolled in school, serve as a mascot? -

SpeedofsandRufus has to get his gpa back up to par, then he'll go back to OU.

From the article, it says he tried out for mascot last year and enrolled at OU last year before dropping out at some undisclosed time, so he could have become the mascot while he was a student. And, with a larger college, it's very easy to believe that, despite dropping out, he was able to stay on as mascot. It's not like I'd expect people to be checking on things like mascot eligibility on a regular basis. -

SportsAndLadyHe told the people who hired him as mascot that he is a student at OU, despite being a student at Hocking.

They didn't check for his records, maybe a student ID? That's definitely a huge fail.
