"Shoe not intimidating", so says Florida Sun-Sentinel

This writer will likely not have a job after he comes back with his tail between his legs.

I expect the next article to read "Ohio Stadium proves to be extremely intimidating as the Buckeyes ROMPSTOMP Miami 31-10", and you can take that to the bank.

Loud and intimidating are two different things. Will it be loud enough that they won't be able to easily make checks/audibles at the line unless they use hand signals? Yes. Will it be loud enough that Miami players piss down their leg at kickoff? No.

Maybe so but then again I have never commented on anything after the game ....mostly because as I stated a Florida reporter has no relevance in or to the team's or and their approach to the game.

People that say this have never been to a big time game at the Shoe. I'm in the stands, not even playing, clownhammered, and I still piss down my leg.
  • Con_Alma
You are not a player on the field.
  • karen lotz
I've been to more big time games in the Shoe than you have, take it to the bank.

I will be on the field this Saturday when the Buckeyes STOMP Miami back to 2003 LOL

Well I'll be on the field after the game, along with 105,000 strong.

    OHIO STATE BABY!
  • Con_Alma
You are not a "player" on the field making the fact that you piss down your leg while in the stands irrelevant when talking about players being intimidated by the crowd.

    You would bet correctly then.

Considering my comments on this topic have a different objective than those I pose when I "hang out" it was but pure luck you were able to come to that conclusion.

I just don't get, and never will get, why some Buckeye fans get so up in arms about the littlest things. Frankly, its embarrassing that fans get so offended by the fact a writer said the Shoe was not "intimidating." And some of the comments left on the article...smh.

I don't think the shoe is that intimidating noise wise. The student section is just not together at OSU. I think everyone would agree on that. South Carolina by far the loudest place I've ever been a close second to Penn State.

You've never been in the Shoe so how the hell would you know?

Student section not together? Wtf are you even talking about?

While I agree with your point, the only reason anyone here is using the term "intimidating" is because that's the terminology that the original author used. He said the Horseshoe "isn't that intimidating" then talked about the home-field advantage created at places like Florida, Tennessee, LSU, Virginia Tech, and Clemson, and said that they are all harder places to play than Columbus. In doing so he implied that those stadiums are somehow more intimidating than the Horseshoe. In as far as a stadium can be intimidating (which let's be honest, it can be), Ohio Stadium is certainly intimidating at least on the same level as the other supposedly more difficult stadiums Mr. Gorten mentioned in his article.

Actually Ohio State has two very unified students sections, one at the north end and one at the south. Each one has over 15,000 students in it. OSU sells over 33,000 student tickets to each game, which is far more than anyone else in college football. They have two student sections, each with as many students in it as most schools have in their single student section.

Exactly, along with the other X amount of students scattered throughout the stadium that couldn't get seats for the designated "student sections." Just like the writer......we have another who is talking out of their ass....clueless.

Here's the comment I just posted to their website. It says "Your Comment is Awaiting Moderation." Let's see if they post it.
    Mr. Gorten,

You claim that this article is simply an opinion piece, and not intended to rile anyone up, disrespect anyone, or get page views, but rather to make the point that "playing in a large stadium in front of a noisy crowd" won't have the dramatic impact that some believe it will. If that was your intent, then your article was poorly executed and your argument poorly supported.

You're article is full of your opinion stated as fact. Why say things like "The Horseshoe is over glamorized. It isn’t intimidating. Nor is it much of a hostile environment."? Why not say it like this: "I feel that the Horseshoe is over glamorized. It doesn't seem that intimidating. Nor does it seem like much of a hostile environment."? Stating things the way that you did creates a thesis. And any good writer knows that a thesis is an arguable point needing evidence to support and prove it. Your article lacks any measurable evidence to support your thesis other than your own opinion. In fact, your opinion is completely unsubstantiated since you have never even been to a game in Ohio Stadium. You don't even include any anecdotal evidence to support your argument.

All you do is talk about how the Horseshoe isn't close to being as loud or intimidating as it is apparently made out to be. There is nothing in this article which established the idea that playing in a large and noisy stadium won't be as big a factor as in some other stadiums, but rather that the Horseshoe pales in comparison to these other stadiums. Again, all of these things are stated as fact and not opinion and completely unsubstantiated. At least the Buckeye fans coming on here are supporting their claims with anecdotes from people like Vince Young who have actually played here.

I find it embarrassing for you and your paper that someone with your training would write such a poorly constructed piece, and that your editors would allow such unsubstantiated claims to be published to their website.

Is it really that big of a deal haha?

Actually been to the shoe over 25 times in my life. Been to many college football facilities more so than you have. Student section is no where near as unified as it is at Penn State, LSU or South Carolina. Sorry i bade it against venues I've actually been at and consider louder than Ohio State with my own two ears. This week I'm going to the Georgia South Carolina game. Next Thursday I will be at the Pitt Miami game. Sorry to say it but you're pwned!

The author is a professional journalist, and therefore he should be held to a high standard of excellence in his writing. His article is poorly constructed and none of his arguable points are supported. A high school freshman should be able to rip that article apart. When you're a professional journalist and you can't write an article as well as a high school freshman, then someone should hold you accountable. If his editor won't then I will.

You said it "isn't that intimidated noise wise"....did you not? If you truly believe that then your hearing must be shot with your old age or you attended a game that was decided before kickoff. Because you are way off base. I'm not saying the other places you mentioned aren't loud.....but your comment about OSU's is as clueless as they come. You're slippin' old man.

I don't don't give a shit where you have been or where you are going because honestly....I don't believe you.
