Orrville Basketball

  • Mr. Russell
Since everybody is feeling the need to say whatever is on their mind right now, I honestly think Donald Short could have taken that team to state. Almost would say he probably would have.
  • Flash
Lets not even go there. Lets think to the future and let sleeping dogs lie. This is just trying to stir up trouble. Everybody has a good feel about last week and lets just let this other stuff alone. I think we know who Mr. Russell is from the comment before his. Don't fall into the trap of stirring up more dissension.
  • RedRider1
Almost probably? Wow, that's confident. I'm sure it killed him to see this years team get to the state finals....in fact, i heard it did. One year after another defeat in the sectional round, what was accomplished this year was nothing short of amazing. Thankfully, 98% of the town feels the same way.

Good to see some old faces on here again now that the season is over....where ya been?

Just like Timken was almost to state this year. Guess what I heard at state from a McKinley fan, they will have him as an football assistant next year.
  • imjustme
It has been almost a year since Donald left the Orrville basketball program, why are you all still discussing him? Start a Timken thread if you want to chat about him.

Like Flash said, look to the future.

    This is ridiculous...

Even though I have said it repeatedly on facebook, congrats on a great year Riders!!!
  • RedRider1
His name was brought up....not gonna sit here and read someone's comment that this team would have been just as well off with him still at the helm....i disagree with that statement...therefore i commented.

Would we all feel better if the mods closed any and all discussion pertinent to the former coach? Like the old JJ days?

So he's heading back to McKinley? Thought that bridge had been burned?
  • imjustme
Wow, RR1 - you didn't say anything when Flash made the same exact comment as me to leave the former coach out of the discussion. How typical...Guess it is just a matter of who says something.

I guess you will all know what the FORMER Orrville coach will be doing next year sometime in the near future since you cannot seem to stop discussing him.

To get back on ORRVILLE basketball - how many kids will be missing on some summer and fall basketball due to football?

Congratulations Riders! Coach Slaughter and this Rider team restored the faith and excitement back in this basketball program. I know flash.....let it go...but I gotta say I strongly disagree with Mr. Russell. The previous coach would not have had this team to this point, IMO There is a whole lot more to being a coach than just drawing the plays up and running your team. Sly's moral character, his hard work and dedication to the kids is what made this team what it is. He was not out for personal glory. He was out for making better men out of the kids who played for him. He was out for restoring pride in this community again. These kids respect him because he respects them.

Thank you for a great season, one people will be talking about for a long time. We may not have a State Championship trophy in the case, but the prize we did get was respect and pride in our program again. We are Orrville.

    ijm,
I know one kid (our best returning player) who will be playing ball at the park and playing AAU ball.

It's amazing the number of kids i've seen just in the past week with basketballs in their hand. Awesome to see. Park has been a busy place. Sly may have awakened a giant in this town.

Pirman, Groves & Brenner will be football players....no blame there. But I'd like to see kids like Jordan Ray, Winters and Sims work extra hard this off-season and over the summer. All 3 have a chance to be impact players next year if they put the work in.
  • Flash
There will be openings for guards this next year that's for sure and if we play an uptempo style of ball we'll need subs. It seems to me to be pretty open for whomever works the hardest. May get some help from the freshman, but most will be better served on the 9th or reserve squads.

See Lex is getting new Boy's and Girl's coaches with Weaver and Trease stepping down.

Comments made by Redrider1, rrfan, and Orrpride. You soon will be eating your words.
    Unbelievable.

You don't know anything that I don't know......

Doesnt change my thoughts, or my words 1 single bit.

    Enjoy your hypocrisy.

RR1 : interesting that all you care about is wins and loses. I would hope you would see a much bigger picture. With that attitude some things will never change.

Word of the day for you DENIAL

found this on Ohio High School Hoops Blog

    Division III

MVP- Desi Kirkman (Lima Central Catholic)
-This was a no-brainer to us. Kirkman dominated LCC’s semi-final game against Chesapeake with 22 points, five rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and four steals. The 5-foot-11 senior was efficient in doing his work. In the title game, Kirkman struggled out of the gates but managed to get the engine started. He ended the game with 15 points, five boards, six dimes, and three swipes.

    All-Tournament Team
    Austin Stolly (Lima Central Catholic)
    Ty O’Connor (Lima Central Catholic)
    Bubba Kreig (Lima Central Catholic)
    Sam Miller (Orrville)
    Joey Bescanson (Orrville)
    Austin McMaster (Chesapeake)

Nice job Sam and Joey, they did step it up in Columbus.

    ^^Yes they did.

I think Mr Graessle from Ready belongs on that list....he was a pretty good player.

No, I have the right guy. Good to know it's ok to discuss rumours and hearsay now. Just last year, that kind of talk would get you sued.
  • rider80
RR1: thats the difference i care more about off the court than on the court. ( Then and Now) I have told you i don't get into rumors and hearsay. I have not mention anything concerning the Bball program. When the facts present it's self then i may or may not comment. Most likely NOT unless the Hypocritical comments continue. Interesting that you mention my brother ? I have 4 brothers. You pick

    Unbelievable.
Yes it is unbelievable that in Orrville basketballs finest hour in 14 year and your vindictiveness and venomous attitude would rear itself up now, get a life and move on and enjoy the day :)

You didn't seem to like all that talk of "off the court" antics in the last several years, and did your best to lean on JJHuddle and the Orrville admins to get your objective accomplished...now that's Priority #1 all of a sudden?

Don't like the downtown tradition...shut it down...no room for discussion. Threaten if need be.

Don't like the talk of the ex-coach....shut it down...no room for discussion. Threaten if need be.

    I see a pattern developing.

riders1 has it right...your timing is impeccable.

rider80, I'm with you on this. As parents we cannot continue to sit on our hands and let kids keep making the same mistakes. Unbelievable is the correct word on what is unfolding and what is being let go. I don't know the whole story. Seems nobody does. Why that shouldn't be our business is up for argument. In my mind I want to know who is making dumb decisions so I can make sure my kids are not with them. some seem to think we keep these things quiet? To protect who? the ones who keep putting everyone else at risk? I need to know these things....we all need to know these things so we can keep an eye out for all our youth. It is another dark day in Rider country. I don't care if it just after a State Championship this tolerance of stupidity must stop now. What is around the corner is all of us standing in line at someone's calling hours. I don't think any one wants that.

riders1: I will wait for your apology. Vindictiveness and venomous attitude? Untrue. I am very happy about the on court success that team has made this year.
    Have a nice day.
  • rider80
5Knots: Thank you for your support. I did not think i was the only one that felt this strongly about our Kids. Im with you about who is doing what . The Kids know. We need to be concerned about the impact of our kids actions. Not about who restored rider pride ect. previous coaches ect.

So at least it's out there....I'll say this....kids need to start making better decisions. Period. I dont care about scholarships or being able to play spring sports...these kids need help & support....in that order.

What I don't care for is I think this is an attempt by some to tear down what was achieved on the court and somehow lay it at the feet of the coach, and in some convoluted way, at those of us who supported and cheered for these kids.

This begins and ends at the feet of the kids making these poor decisions....and I hope through consequences, they see the error of their ways.

Glad to know that some kids stay away from this, and I think it's no accident. Structure, discipline & upbringing have a lot to do with that. I'll say this....be thankful and feel blessed that your family unit has instilled character & morals in your children. Understand that not every situation is like that....but it also doesn't mean that your immune from it either.
